Psalm - An Appeal against the Devastation of the Land by the Enemy, God Abases the Proud but Exalts the Righteous. Revelation - The Book with Seven Seals, Angels Exalt the Lamb
Text: Proverbs 14:34-35 (ESV) 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. 35 A servant who deals wisely has the king's favor, but his wrath falls on one who acts shamefully. RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION The strength of a nation might come from its military or economic power. But, the source of real strength is in the nation's moral character. Law and government will always turn towards the desires of the people, eventually. The presence of righteous individuals and families makes a nation strong, but wickedness in individuals and families degrades a nation and weakens it. In the history of Israel, we see these truths. In the book of Judges, when the people of Israel ‘did was right in their own eyes' and forgot God, Israel succumbed to her enemies (Judg 2:11–23; 17:6). However, when the people ‘repent and called out' to the Lord, He delivered the nation from her enemies (Judg 3:9–11, 15; 4:3, 23–24; 6:6–14; 10:10–16). Also, during the period of the kings, their idolatry and rebellion against God caused both the northern nation of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah to fall and go into captivity (2 Kings 17:6–8). However, Judah had few good kings, and periods of revival occurred during their reigns. But, Israel had no good kings, so they fell a century earlier to the Assyrians (2 Chron 36:17–21; Dan 1:1). “A king rejoices in wise servants but is angry with those who disgrace him.” is an obvious reality, isn't it? Today, employees and subordinates should seek to be honorable as they conduct their business. Far from cheating or embarrassing their superiors, they should seek to be diligent and reap the expected rewards (Eph 6:5–9). A few examples in the bible include Joseph before Pharaoh, Mordecai and Queen Esther in Persia, and Daniel in Babylon. In our relationship with God, the same is true. To ignore God's will insults Him and results in negative consequences (Proverbs 14:31,32). He who honors God, He will honor in the end. Today's Promise: 1 Peter 5:6 We live in a promote yourself, put your best foot forward world. God's economy works differently. God says if you want to be promoted, humble yourself before God. God honors those who humble themselves before Him. When you humble yourself, you confess your need for Him. Humbling yourself before God is confessing that He is God and you aren't. When you humble yourself before God, you release God's incredible power to work in your life. God exalts the humble because they put their complete faith and trust in Him.

Pride goeth before the fall. This was a favorite verse of mine as a child, because I loved to quote it against my siblings if I thought they were acting arrogantly about anything. It was one of my favorite weapon verses, that was handy to whip out to guilt someone into a change of behavior. Imagine my…

We Rejoice in the coming of Jesus because He: 1. Exalts the humble and poor 2. Opposes the proud 3. Is rich in mercy toward His people While we rejoice and celebrate the coming of Jesus, let us remember to: 1. Wait for the Lord to exalt us when we are humble and poor 2. Not be proud or haughty but charitable 3. Share the good news of his mercy toward us all
One of the most beautiful, and paradigm-shifting passages, in the Bible is Mary's “Magnificat.” Mary rejoices that the coming of the Lord will scatter the proud, bring down the mighty, and send the rich away empty. The humble, however, are those who are prepared for the Day of the Lord. The humble will be exalted when he arrives. […]
