Finding the Unity in Community (212 @ Taco Tuesday)

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 19, 2022 76:09

The woes of being woke. In this episode of TheTwoTwelve, I caught this audio on some sneaky shit. I was invited to a Taco Tuesday/Game night and shit got political, and I wasn't the reason for once. It was a male led conversation and I believe we've all heard similar sentiments. We spoke about our views on voting, the importance of black history in school and the result of the lack thereof. I understand the need for this dialogue to constantly be happening but also understand the stress it may cause someone to just sit and talk about it with no solution. I decided to sit this conversation out and hear the thoughts of those around me without contributing and it brought an amazing episode with much to think about. When did you learn about black history? What are we looking for in a idealistic leader? What can we do to help ourselves? In this episode of TheTwoTwelve, I used a 3 minute clip from a 2 hour interview named “The Black Detour” between Nikki Giovanni and James Baldwin. In this clip, Nikki Giovanni is asking, why is it because I love you, I get the bulk of your anger? If you can hypothetically “lie” to your friends, or your employer for the perception that everything is okay out of obligation, why can't you also lie to me sometimes just for the balance of our relationship? This became a conversation about mental health vs. obligation. Obligation to your family, Obligation to your friends, and your obligation to your lover. Thank you for listening.  As always shout out to the sponsors, @the.lab00 @dripwithjigga --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On this episode of TheTwoTwelve, I got to sit down w. a social media friend/acquaintance of mine.. @LamboKeem, the designer behind the streetwear brand, byLambo (& HERLAMBO!) I met this nigga like ten years ago on the world wide web, still don't know nothing bout him... but also know everything about him (IE. his little sister's nickname, boobie). LMAO - what kinda conundrum are we in yo? He has mastered the art of telling us just enough, yet still letting us into his world enough to be intrigued. I think as creatives, and honestly, just black people in general, we need to learn how to make safe boundaries that we're comfortable with - at home, with family/friends, in relationships, at the job etc. Being a personable friendly person is cool, but it can also be draining, and your mental health matters. Everyone doesn't need access to us and most people only really want to know the information you're not comfortable giving them, even if you've said EVERYTHING ELSE. Tune in to hear me give this nigga flowers and him try to refuse them. Let me know if you want a PART 2 ! shout out to the sponsors, @thelab.00 & @dripwithjigga. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On this weeks episode of TheTwoTwelve, I got a chance to sit down with a friend of mine, you may know him as Quest, or you may know him as the designer/creator/owner of his clothing brand ENQUOR. In this conversation we got to speak alot about perception and the sense of community he now has since he's moved to Georgia in comparison to his life in Southside Queens New York. We went on to talk about his parenting and how it relates to his childhood and the changes that he would have for his son because of his experiences. This conversation also opened up and gave a voice to how he feels about vulnerability inside relationships not only with women but also with friends and family. We got his insight on what matters most to him, and generally most men, in the long run. Ps. Bad bitches cost, be well equipped. Why is it that we're reluctant to state our clear intentions up front if thats how we genuinely feel? Nothing answers that better than, fear of rejection. Were all in this dating pool, swimming around with piss in it. It's already tainted and often tampered with, and many of us don't like the discomfort of uncertainty - the probability that someone wont accept our truth. Is it really a loss if that persons intentions don't align with yours anyway? We agreed that its more important to push your child's passion instead of being stuck in the traditional ways to raise children, because not only will it be more profitable, it will foster happier children. Thats honestly the change we all want to see. We spoke about the importance of networking and not being restricted to just associating to people who look like us, especially if we attended predominantly black schools our entire lives. Welcome everyone! My name is Neesh B. and this is The Two Twelve.  •The idea to podcast started because of my weekly Instagram poll questions, which began as daily relatable questions/conversation. These questions were then formatted into "Would Your Rather" Questions that would conflict people so much they often would DM me for insight or to elaborate my thoughts; sometimes for hours at a time. Those poll questions, often gender specific, created a sort of Venus vs Mars conversation on a larger scale.  • This is my podcast, but its just as much yours. I ask the questions, you answer the polls, together we create dialogue. We're really just here kicking it, and sharing opinions. No one is right or wrong...  • For the most part it'll be just me and you, in the faux privacy that exists on the internet. I will share my life and experiences with you in complete transparency, whether you're ready for it or not. You are welcome to share your stories with me too, I'll even give my unsolicited advice! (wink) • Join in on our daily conversations via Instagram stories. Feel free to experience our polls and highlights.  IG: @NeeshB @thetwotwelve  thetwotwelve@gmail.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thetwotwelve/support
