We are very lucky today to hear from Guest Speaker; Dave Adamson (@aussiedave), as he shares that reading the Bible is complicated. 11% of Adult Christians read the Bible daily (Statista) and 47% of Christian teens have never read the Bible (ACC). So what can we do to fix this? It starts with our daily decisions that will determine our spiritual direction. Dave shares a beautiful encouragement that it can be easy to do, and that "one verse today beats good intentions tomorrow." This week I've gone crackers. I've wondered for awhile why it's biscuits everywhere else - but sometimes ... it's crackers. I mean, the most British of British claymation - Wallace and Grommit, when they go to the moon to get cheese, even they bring crackers.... not biscuits. That, and a few other things had me wondering if crackers and biscuts DIDN'T come from the same source? Rather did the two just meet in America. Turns out - that's what it was.It was Douglas Mack of The Snack Shack that got me stared with this post on biscuit and cracker mysteries of the past: The Snack That's a Secret IngredientAnd here are the llinks to @oliviacooks excellent cracker recipes made with sourdough discard:Love & Olive Oil - Sourdough CrackersSiicilian Parchment Sourdough Crackers (pane carasau)both include a non-sourdough version.Find out how it was New Sweden all along. Or maybe not that... but they were involved. Anyway, be glad your crackers have fat and leavening in them. Colossians 4:2-6 | Max Janusch | This week, after pointed instruction about the household of the follower of Jesus, Paul begins to conclude his letter, giving some final instructions before wrapping up. He puts his finger on two crucial elements of the Christian life: prayer and our behavior toward those who do not believe. In light of who Jesus is and what he's done, how should we pray? And how should we act around those who aren't living as though all things truly are through him and for him?MAIN IDEALet your life speak of Christ.OUTLINEI. Persistent prayer should permeate God's people. (vv. 2-4)II. Would-be witnesses should walk wisely in the world. (vv. 5-6)DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Think back on last week's text (3:18-4:1). Now read this week's short text together (4:2-6). How do Paul's words in these five verses help us apply the instruction from last week's passage?2. Look at all five days of “Engage the Text.” You'll notice that all of Paul's instructions in these verses can be traced back to the teachings of Jesus. Take a few moments and look at all the overlap, making observations as you go.3. Look at verses 2-4. What does Paul say about prayer? How should this shape how we pray? Does this come easy to you? Difficult? Why?4. How often do you pray for each other, that God would help your group mates as you share the gospel with others? How can you encourage each other in this?5. Read verses 5-6. Why is this especially important in our current day and age? Think about your own personal relationships. What are specific ways that this can be a struggle? How can we, as the people of God, grow in this area?

Today I noticed that my children have finally outgrown our Halloween traditions like trick-or-treating … and maybe carving jack-o'-lanterns, though that might have just been a timing issue this year. It's time (our youngest is 15) but it still marks the end of a phase. But hey, time passes, and families evolve as it does. The creative lesson I took from this Noticing is the nature of change and growth within a family setting. Capturing transitional moments in books is a great way to explore nostalgia, the bittersweet nature of growing up, and the ever-changing tapestry of family life.WANT MORE?Members get extra episodes of the podcast, extra companion blog posts (see below), and more every week … all for the price of a fancy coffee. (14:50) - And Another Thing! #Plies (16:48) - COMING UP THIS HOUR IN BLACKURATE NEWS: 80 YEARS AGO, A RACIST MOB FORCED CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST OPAL LEE (THE GRANDMOTHER OF JUNETEENTH) FROM HER HOME. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO HER IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. LATER, ACTOR JEFFREY WRIGHT IS OUT PROMOTING HIS NEW MOVIE, AMERICAN FICTION. PLUS, THE BIG UP/LET DOWN… TODAY IT INVOLVES AN AIRPLANE, AN iPHONE, AND STANLEY CUPS... I'LL BREAK IT ALL DOWN. (19:35) - Let me set the story up for y'all. June 19, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas, 500 angry white people forced the family of Opal Lee from their new home, destroyed it, and burned their possessions. 85 years later, she has been given the land back. Trinity Habitat for Humanity offered Lee the land in exchange for $10 to ensure the deal was legal (24:31) - American Fiction star, Jeffrey Wright, is speaking out about an unpleasant experience when he filmed the movie, Ride with the Devil He said, in a scene where he was a former slave, he was supposed to say–, 'Being that man's friend was no more than being his n-----. And I will never again be anyone's n-----,'' He felt it was such a self-empowering statement and understanding of the word." Show producers felt the film would be “a little more palatable for whoever their target audience is if the N-word was redacted, so they replaced his voice on a project despite his protest. (28:43) - BIG UP - TO STEVE JOBS FOR PROVING HIS HATERS WRONG (ABOUT THE IPHONE'S DURABILITY) A recent flight on Alaskan Airlines is trending after a whole section of the plane came OFF mid-flight and had to make an emergency landing. One passenger reported that his iPhone fell over 16000 feet and was later found intact! I guess iPhones can handle some serious drops ! AND Big up to mother nature for taking a nap and sparing these passengers when that door flew off. LET DOWN - People trying to buy regular groceries during the Stanley Cup craze. The craze began when a woman on Tik Tok showed that her Stanley Cup was still in the cup holder when her car caught on fire still had ice in it.
