The big offseason for the Utah Jazz is right around the corner! The Jazz will have much, much bigger expectations to compete next year, but there are salary cap rules on how they can shape their roster. Decisions on Walker Kessler and Keyonte George could also have huge financial ramifications down the line. What is the Mid-Level Exception? What is the First Apron? Why won't we pay the luxury tax this year, but will probably have no problem paying it next year?Mark Russell Pereira (Bluesky: @jazzmanmark.com) walks you through a very introductory examination of the Jazz salary cap sheet going into the offseason so you are well-prepared to know how the Jazz can even make (or not make) player acquisitions to shore up the rotation. Then, we use the Free Agency Simulator on saltcityhoops.com (which you can use too!), created by the wizard Zarin Ficklin (@zarin on Bluesky, @zarinf on twitter) to game out the decisions this summer and play with different options. Finally, Mark goes waaaaay deep and shows how a bunch of different extension and free agency options for the Jazz this summer could hurl them into the dreaded first and second aprons as early as 2027! These are danger zones that Utah might have to tolerate if they are to be competitive. All of these questions answered, and way more, for Salt City Hoops!#utah #utahjazz #basketball #nba #acebailey #ajdybantsa #darrynpeterson #keyontegeorge #walkerkessler #laurimarkkanen #cameronboozer #calebwilson #jarenjacksonjr

Episode 170 of Tablesetters is LIVE! We open with Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association officially beginning negotiations on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, including MLB's proposal for a hard salary cap and salary floor, the union's immediate opposition, and what this means for the future of player salaries, competitive balance, and the possibility of another labor showdown. From there, we dive into one of the wildest opening weekends of the NCAA Tournament in recent memory. No. 1 overall seed UCLA, No. 2 Georgia Tech, Florida State, Florida, and Arkansas were all eliminated before Super Regionals. We break down Georgia and North Carolina emerging as the new favorites, Oklahoma stunning Georgia Tech, Kansas taking down Arkansas twice, Troy eliminating Florida, St. John's shocking Florida State, and preview every Super Regional matchup on the road to Omaha. We also discuss growing concern surrounding Aaron Judge's rib and shoulder injury situation after additional testing was ordered, Shohei Ohtani lowering his ERA to 0.74 with six scoreless innings while reaching base five times, and Cristopher Sánchez's historic 50 2/3-inning scoreless streak coming to an end after setting both a Phillies franchise record and the longest scoreless streak ever by a left-handed pitcher. Plus, why Corbin Carroll is putting up the best left-on-left numbers since Barry Bonds, Max Meyer's long-awaited breakout season with the Marlins, Statcast's unluckiest hitters, Jeff Passan's case for the Braves to pursue Tarik Skubal, Sub-2 ERA Crew updates, red-hot and ice-cold players of the week, polls, debates, and everything else happening across Major League Baseball.
Major League Baseball is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, fueled by rising attendance, stronger television ratings, and the star power of players like Shohei Ohtani, Bobby Witt Jr., and Aaron Judge. But with labor negotiations between owners and players already becoming contentious, concerns are growing that a potential lockout after the 2026 season could jeopardize the sport's hard-earned momentum and reignite debates over revenue sharing, payroll requirements, and competitive balance.

Bobby and Alex discuss the long-anticipated MLB-MLBPA CBA proposals —including the Players Association's "competitive integrity tax," and the owners' hard cap and floor proposal. They debate the merits of a cap in a world where owners have a long, storied history of lying about their finances, and dig below the surface into their desperate attempt at juicing franchise values to further extract value out of a game that they put very little into. Then, they are joined by friend of the show Bradford William Davis to pivot to a conversation about MLB's inconsistently enforced domestic violence policies, opaque investigations, and mixed messaging. President of the New York Yankees and Chairman of the Presidential Committee on College Sports Randy Levine joins the Brian Kilmeade Show to pull back the curtain on a revolutionary, bipartisan Senate bill designed to save college sports. Levine exposes the backroom "collectives" and under-the-table financial schemes bypassing current salary limits, which are forcing universities to cut vital Olympic and women's sports. May 29, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 142 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the several OTA media sessions that took place with members of Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff and players since our last show. We start this show by recapping our main takeaways from the last several days of OTA sessions and we make sure to focus on several things that Steelers HC Mike McCarthy had to say during his press conference. Several of the offensive and defensive position group coaches talked to the media this past week so Alex and I recap all of the main talking points to come out of those. Those discussions result in us discussing several of the players and position groups that the coaches talked about. In short, there is quite a bit of talk about several different players on the roster throughout this show and too many to name by name. We also make sure to recap what several players had to say during their OTA media sessions over the course of the last few days during this podcast episode. Alex and I spend a little extras time talking about Steelers rookie TE Riley Nowakowski during this show and especially when it comes to his potential snap count and positional roles played throughout his first NFL season. While he's not the only young player discussed during this show, Nowakowski is the one we spend the most time talking about. The Steelers recently made several front office changes that Kozora learned of, so we make sure to recap all of those during this show. Later in this show, I provide a full recap of where the Steelers currently sit in relation to their salary cap situation. This 103-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we make sure to answer a few listener emails we have received to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Shohei Ohtani is redefining what greatness looks like, and Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber dig into why this version of Ohtani may be even more valuable than the slugging superstar fans saw in recent seasons. With dominant pitching back in the picture, the guys debate whether a high end two way Ohtani is the best version of baseball's most unique player. The conversation then turns to MLB's brewing labor battle, with owners preparing a salary cap proposal for the first time since 1994 and players expected to push back hard. Evan and Tiki break down the gap between big market and small market teams, the decline of regional sports networks, and why baseball could be headed toward a major fight over how the sport's money gets shared.
