They share motivational stories, including an inspiring speech by Kristina Moon, the widow of firefighter Billy Moon, which emphasized the significance of organ donation and the value of such lifesaving efforts. They also discuss the importance of training and efficiency, touching on how these factors directly impact emergency response times and ultimately, the lives of those they serve. With anecdotes and lessons learned from their extensive experience in the fire service, Lasky and Salka highlight the need for readiness, teamwork, and a proactive approach in tackling the challenges faced on the fireground.
All institutions in America post COVID seem to draw nothing but disdain and distrust from the public. Has America come to a point where belief in these formerly trusted institutions are passe? In the wake of the pandemic and the recent Afghanistan debacle, has the American ruling class lost the capacity to secure the faith of the American people? What does this mean for the contemporary left. About Doug Lain: Douglas Lain is the publisher of Zero Books. I found Zero Books and Douglas Lain a few years ago after falling down a Marxist rabbit hole on YouTube. I was quickly hooked by the 80's Max Headroom on LSD imagery combined with a heavy dose of Marxist theory. Well, I had the pleasure of talking all things leftist politics with Mr. Lain the other day, and we had such a good time we've decided to make it a regular thang. Billy Moon gives his initial thoughts on Free Agency and discusses moves that he loves and hates so far
Billy Moon sits down backstage with me at Riverfest. Now, Billy is a tall person. Like, comically tall compared to me. I met him backstage while I was up on a riser so I didn't notice this until he came into the PodTrailer for the interview and almost didn't fit. He had to duck (okay, crouch and crawl) to get in and get seated. It's strange but when you see someone on stage, even walking around backstage you don't get a good sense of them until they are knee to knee with you, in a tiny podcast trailer, backstage. Moreover, what you definitely don't get a sense of is who they are or what stories they hold, until you are in a space so small and intimate there's little room for bravado, falsehood or ego. On stage: Billy has a personality that matches his height. His performances are command, deftly woven musical stories performed with a larger-than-life personality. He's SUPER entertaining ya'll. Crowds love him. Backstage, he has a hundred friends, he's funny, he's warm and engaging. He has a 'star quality' that might be one part looks and one part charm, it's hard to tell. Alone, in the relative quiet of the podcast trailer, he too is quiet, thoughtful, reflective and open. This is one of the more powerful interviews I've done and I don't know if it's just indicative as my growth as a podcaster and interviewer or if I purely lucked out getting someone as intelligent and willing as Billy. Either way, I hope you enjoy our talk. Please find Billy's incredible work, including the new album we touch on here: https://www.reverbnation.com/billymoon https://billymoon.bandcamp.com/
Billy Moon of the faction "Cool Heels" will join us for the first time. Billy is a young talent still gaining traction in the Pacific Northwest. He's already competed in several promotions and has been part of a few different factions already. We'll sit down with Billy and get his take on his career to this point as well as his feelings on the industry in general. Fans love to hate Billy Moon so pull up a chair and listen closely to what he has to say. It might get explosive.
It's another special mini-episode as we chat with the enchanting and eclectic Emanuela Hutter from the upbeat rockabilly band- The Hill Billy Moon Explosion. On the episode, we'll chat with Emanuela about her long history with the band, her solo work and what it's like to perform rockabilly in the Switzerland music scene. We'll also chat about the bands latest album and how they keep the ideas flowing after years of writing and performing. So join Saucey, Dee, and Emanuela for all the Podcasting Tornadoes we can Musically French Kiss into your Bourgeois Little EarHoles.

This week, Doug Lain, the host of the excellent Dietsoap podcast, has returned to the show to tell us about his novel ‘Billy Moon’, that is due out from his publishers, Tor, on the 27th of August. Using Doug’s novel for the basis of the conversation, we meander through an array of topics including the May 1968 aborted revolution in France, the interaction of ideology, architecture, and space, the rationality of socialism, the Situationists and the Occupy movement, how we need to dream and escape the dream, the structure of a new revolutionary strategy, the need for bastards, feminist literary critique, and his upcoming Think The Impossible book and podcast tour to San Francisco, Chicago, and NYC. Oh yes, and no conversation between myself and Doug would be complete without a rant about our dear friend, Karl Marx...... You can check out Doug's Dietsoap podcast and writings here: DouglasLain.com You can read an excerpt of his book over here on his publishers site: http://www.tor.com/stories/2013/07/billy-moon-excerpt And you can order a copy over here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Billy-Moon-Douglas-Lain/dp/0765321726 Enjoy!
This month Douglas Lain, C Derick Varn and Nicholas Pell discuss the Marxist notion of historical materialism.  According to Wikipedia "historical materialism" is: Historical materialism is a methodological approach to the study of society, economics, and history, first articulated by Karl Marx (1818–1883) as "the materialist conception of history". Historical materialism looks for the causes of developments and changes in human society in the means by which humans collectively produce the necessities of life. The question becomes this:  have we reached a point wherein we simply do not have a materialist basis for emancipation?  Or is the trouble ideological? Also, this week marks the beginning of Douglas Lain's "Think the Impossible" Kickstarter campaign to fund his upcoming podcast and book tour. The book is entitled "Billy Moon." It is due out from Tor Books in August, and tells the story of an adult Christopher Robin Milne, the man known best for his childhood relationship with a stuffed bear, and entirely fictional involvement in the French general strike of May, 1968. The podcast, entitled Diet Soap, is a weekly interview show focusing on philosophy, surrealism, and what I think of as the problem of Late Capitalism. Guests on the program have included Penelope Rosemont of the Chicago Surrealist group, the radical author Michael Parenti, and Reverend Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping, and many others. The title of the tour, the imperative to "Think the Impossible" relates to both the podcast and the novel. In May 1968 one of the slogans spray painted on the streets of Paris was this: "Be realistic, demand the impossible."
This weeks guest is Doug Lain. Doug is a fiction writer, blogger, pop philosopher and political radical. He is also the host of the most excellent ‘Dietsoap’ podcast. We talk of philosophy and Hegel, reality tunnels and ideology, Slavoj Zizek and the surreal, Winnie the Pooh and the Labyrinth. Doug’s novel ‘Billy Moon: 1968’ is due out from Tor Books in 2013. He also has a new monthly podcast coming out in September with Derick C. Varn called ‘Pop The Left’ where they hope to give a critical analysis of the left, from a leftists perspective. If you know what's good for you, you should check out the Dietsoap podcast and Doug's writing on his interweb site: www.douglaslain.com You can also find his books for purchase here: http://www.amazon.com/Douglas-Lain/e/B004Z9W0QO/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1347673703&sr=8-1 Enjoy!
