Alongside Clara's magical journey, Leo builds in a “world of winter traditions,” weaving in symbols and celebrations connected to Hanukkah, Christmas, the Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, and Lunar New Year.  We talk about what made Leo want to create his own Nutcracker version (a dream he's held since childhood), how he approached adapting a public-domain classic while keeping the heart of the 1892 ballet, and why he chose photo-collage illustrations—including photographing neighbors, local dancers, and friends to bring the cast to life.  Leo also shares how his storytelling connects to his other creative work, including his podcast Generation Change with Leo Finelli, where he spotlights young voices and changemakers.    The Title sequence was designed and created by Morgan Quaid. Merry Christmas! Today's episode of Bri Books 'BriCember' is an honest and loving reflection on the holiday season, grief, and where we meet in the middle. In this episode, we reflect on the experiences of people who are sitting with parental loss (or any loss TBH) during the holiday season. I'll be sharing my own reflections on my holiday memories with my mother, the feeling of an invisible missing 'seat at the table' that we may notice during this time of year, the power of reliving and remaking traditions, grieving the holidays and fantasies that never were, and the glimmer of light that's visible in our shared memories.  Listen to my Mother's Day episode of Bri Books inspired by my mother, Michele Jimerson. Send us a textThe “holiday season”  is filled with traditions at every turn. While they anchor us and provide familiarity and predictability, they can also be the source of stress and trigger deep sadness and grief. However, because they create a sense of belonging, gradually introducing new activities can maintain the togetherness and provide needed support for healing. Joy and sadness coexist during the holidays while grieving a loss. The answer to this paradox could be in creating new traditions. It requires great creativity and innovation. Our Founder, Dr. Mary Ellen Collins, gives us an example of both while sharing a personal dilemma for the Thanksgiving holiday. ResourcesPodcast Episode highlights a blog by Mary Ellen Collins:   https://www.motherlessdaughtersministry.com/2022/11/23/create-a-family-thanksgiving-starting-a-new-tradition-in-the-face-of-loss/Want to learn more about our New Connections and conversation Circles?  https://www.motherlessdaughtersministry.com/services/https-www-motherlessdaughtersministry-com-services-online-connections-conversations/. Ways to support MDM financially: https://www.motherlessdaughtersministry.com/giving/Motherless Daughters Ministry is a 501(c) (3) non-profit that depends on the generous support of donations from listeners like you.  To donate or sign up for our newsletter and more resources, visit our website atwww.motherlessdaughtesministry.com  Support the showThanks for listening! College football is inching closer to a collective bargaining model. And with it comes big changes: transfer limits, regulated agents, and incentive-based contracts. But will that just bring back the bag men? We break it down. The NFL sold NFL Media, including NFL Network and RedZone, to ESPN in exchange for equity. But there's one problem…Trump could still block the deal. Plus:  • MLB's “Speedway Classic” in Bristol was a total disaster. Think Fyre Fest, but with bunless hot dogs and no cheese for nachos.  • A Portland Pickles “fan” hits a home run and the internet smells a work.  • Brewers manager Pat Murphy keeps pancakes and pizza slices in his pants.  • The WNBA has a dildo problem and we're officially in weird territory.  • Ohio wants to kill prop bets.  • Smelling salts are banned in the NFL.  • And tennis gets its own reality dating show at the US Open.

Send us a textDom L'Amour speaks with Friend of the show aka best friend of the show Chris Bate AKA @chriselb_88.What if the key to understanding global politics lies in our own living rooms, wrapped in family traditions and heartfelt conversations? Join us on the Black Man Talking Emotions podcast as we navigate through the intricate world of politics and personal growth. Together with my close friend Chris Bates, we untangle the complexities surrounding President Biden's current challenges, the economic landscape shaped by corporate influence, and the political drama involving his son. As the Israel and Hamas conflict intensifies, we advocate for empathy and informed discussions, acknowledging the importance of creating new traditions and fostering personal growth amidst international tensions.Amidst a backdrop of shifting global alliances, we tackle pressing political and social issues, from the ongoing war in Ukraine to Donald Trump's recent election and its impact on public sentiment. Our conversation with Chris sheds light on Puerto Rico's enduring struggles with natural disasters and inadequate U.S. support, highlighting systemic inequalities. We also examine the intricacies of political maneuvering, especially in the context of Joe Biden's controversial decision regarding his son, adding a lighter yet insightful twist to our discussions.Turning to personal narratives, we explore the evolution of holiday traditions and family dynamics, from cherished childhood memories to the creation of new customs that resonate with us today. Reflecting on past performances and holiday celebrations, I share how the loss of my father reshaped my approach to festivities, emphasizing the importance of meaningful gifts and balancing old and new traditions. Through intimate stories, we underscore the profound value of family connections, fostering an atmosphere of love and gratitude, and creating lasting memories that carry us through the challenges of life.Opening quote: Carl BardOpening and Closing Theme song: Produced by Dom L'AmourTransition Music from Mad Chops Vol. 1 and Mad Chops Vol. 2 by Mad Keysand from Piano Soul Vol.1(Loop Pack) by The Modern Producers TeamFeatured song: "Fever" Covered by Dom L'Amour and The Andrews at Lemon Bar in Chicago.Cover art by Studio Mania: Custom Art @studiomania99Please subscribe to the podcast, and give us a good rating. 5 stars please and thank you.
