Marxist, as well as conservative and liberal bourgeois historians alike, have always had a fundamental misunderstanding about the Luddites. It turns out they weren't just reactionary peasants who feared technology and wanted to keep the world mired in an economy based on stacking sticks and mud. The Luddites weren't resisting technology itself—they were fighting the economic systems that exploited them through it. Obviously, this infamous document (pdf: https://www.marxists.org/admin/books/manifesto/Manifesto.pdf) is not the beginning point of Communism, but is the beginning point of organized Communism, particularly of the Marxist type, which we have recently (https://newdiscourses.com/2025/06/communism-is-not-atheist) and thoroughly discussed. In this long-overdue episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay takes you through the main body of the Manifesto of the Communist Party: preface, chapter one, and chapter two. July 21, 2025 | Trump/WSJ; Abortion; Coldplay; Colbert; Equal Pay?; Insider Dealing; Japan | Yaron Brook ShowIn this wide-ranging and high-energy episode of *The Yaron Brook Show*, Yaron dives into a mix of headlines and cultural flashpoints. He kicks things off by dissecting the *Wall Street Journal*'s recent editorial stance on Donald Trump and exposes the dangers of the right's increasing embrace of authoritarianism. From there, he shifts to a searing takedown of anti-abortion laws in America, highlighting their destructive moral and medical consequences. Yaron also reacts to the online mob attack over a couple's display of affection at a Coldplay concert, critiques Stephen Colbert's brand of smug progressive comedy, and unpacks the flawed rhetoric around “equal pay.” He then covers the real issue behind insider trading laws and takes a thoughtful look at Japan's demographic and cultural stagnation. In the final portion, Yaron fields a barrage of live audience questions. Topics include whether pro-capitalist politicians like Milei are just the beginning of a global trend, the dangers of anti-abortion policies discouraging early medical care, and whether technological innovation can survive regulatory gatekeeping. He's also asked about middle America's mythologizing, the political ironies of Coldplay concert criticism, and the tragedy of elderly crime in Japan. The audience also probes philosophical questions—on individual rights, metaphysical individualism, and whether Texas' abortion laws should deter Objectivist organizing. Engaged and opinionated as always, Yaron delivers hard-hitting answers with clarity and conviction.Key Time Stamps:02:00 Trump/The Wall Street Journal11:40 Abortion30:40 Coldplay38:10 Colbert45:50 Equal Pay?51:30 Insider Dealing1:03:00 Japan1:08:10 Jubilee1:12:05 Upcoming Shows Schedule1:23:45 Live Questions

It was so bad, in fact, that it became a symbol of ultimate human evil eclipsing even Communism. This had its benefits, but it also presents a weakness. "Never forget" became "we forgot." In this fiery and insightful episode, Yaron Brook takes on the moral, psychological, and cultural roots of socialism's enduring appeal. From the altruist ethics that make it seem noble to the intellectual cowardice that allows its ideas to persist, Yaron shows how and why socialism keeps returning in new disguises—and why we must reject it not just economically but philosophically. He explores how today's intellectuals and politicians repackage collectivism under the banners of "equity," "community," or "social housing," and reveals how even well-meaning advocates fall into the same traps that led past societies into ruin. It's not just about economics—it's about morality, values, and the fight for individualism against a rising cultural tide of self-sacrifice.

Part 2 of Summer Series 2025 This week Host Dave Bledsoe dressed up in his old Air Force dress uniform and staggered into a bar insisting he was there to “liberate” the Jameson. (His invasion was repulsed by an annoyed bouncer) On the show this week part two of Summer Series 2025 “You Can Have A Little War, As A Treat” continues with 1983's Invasion of Grenada. Along the way we discover that Dave may have covered up a brutal murder in the late 1980's. (Admittedly, the victim was a swan.) Then we dive right into the history of the tiny island nation of Grenada, from its discovery by Columbus, to colonization by the French and the British. From there we discuss how the long claws of Communism grabbed the peaceful island via the construction of an airport. (That was actually paid for by the United Kingdom.) Then we learn why Ronald Reagan sent thousands of US Troops to “rescue” some perfectly safe medical students. (Hint: It was politically expedient.) Our Sponsor this week is the Grenada Tourism Board, who invite you to try a little Pure Grenada! We open the show with news from 1983 and close with Berbice who loves his island. World War II endures in the popular imagination as a heroic struggle between good and evil, with villainous Hitler driving its events. But Hitler was not in power when the conflict erupted in Asia—and he was certainly dead before it ended. His armies did not fight in multiple theaters, his empire did not span the Eurasian continent, and he did not inherit any of the spoils of war. That central role belonged to Joseph Stalin. The Second World War was not Hitler's war; it was Stalin's war. Drawing on ambitious new research in Soviet, European, and US archives, Stalin's War: A New History of World War II (Basic Books, 2021) by award winning historian, Sean McMeekin, Professor of History at Bard College, revolutionizes our understanding of this global conflict by moving its epicenter to the east. Hitler's genocidal ambition may have helped unleash Armageddon, but as McMeekin shows, the war which emerged in Europe in September 1939 was the one Stalin wanted, not Hitler. So, too, did the Pacific war of 1941–1945 fulfill Stalin's goal of unleashing a devastating war of attrition between Japan and the “Anglo-Saxon” capitalist powers he viewed as his ultimate adversary. McMeekin also reveals the extent to which Soviet Communism was rescued by the US and Britain's self-defeating strategic moves, beginning with Lend-Lease aid, as American and British supply boards agreed almost blindly to every Soviet demand. Stalin's war machine, McMeekin shows, was substantially reliant on American materiél from warplanes, tanks, trucks, jeeps, motorcycles, fuel, ammunition, and explosives, to industrial inputs and technology transfer, to the foodstuffs which fed the Red Army. This unreciprocated American generosity gave Stalin's armies the mobile striking power to conquer most of Eurasia, from Berlin to Beijing, for Communism. A groundbreaking reassessment of the Second World War, Stalin's War is revisionist history at its very best: breaking down old paradigms and narratives and bringing to the fore new understandings of the historical process. In this episode of Red Menace, Breht and Alyson dive into Mao Zedong's pivotal 1957 speech On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People. This foundational text offers insight into Mao's dialectical approach to politics, particularly in navigating the complex terrain of class struggle within socialist society. Together they explore Mao's crucial distinction between antagonistic and non-antagonistic contradictions, and how this distinction can guide revolutionary praxis. The discussion includes an analysis of the “unity–struggle–unity” dialectic, the historical context and lessons of the Hundred Flowers and Hundred Schools campaigns, and the subsequent Anti-Rightist backlash. They also examine Mao's critique of Han chauvinism and draw parallels to white chauvinism in the contemporary U.S., as well as Mao's position on Tibet and the historical legacy of how that conflict played out, and how it is still weaponized today. ---------------------- Follow, Subscribe, & Learn more about Red Menace & Rev Left Radio: revleftradio.com

Together, they explore Alex's journey into the Catholic Worker movement, how his Southern roots and spiritual convictions shaped his politics, and what the life and teachings of Jesus Christ - himself a Palestinian born to working people - have to offer a world ravaged by capitalism, empire, and despair. The conversation dives deep into liberation theology, the legacy of figures like John Brown, St. Francis of Assisi, Fanny Lou Hamer, Dorthy Day and Thomas Merton, and the ways theology can inform and animate anti-capitalist resistance. Alex discusses the contradictions between mainstream American Christianity and the gospel's radical call to justice, post-atheism, and the possibilities for a spiritual reawakening amid the decay of late capitalism. ---------------------------------------------------- Support Rev Left and get access to bonus episodes: www.patreon.com/revleftradio Make a one-time donation to Rev Left at BuyMeACoffee.com/revleftradio Follow, Subscribe, & Learn more about Rev Left Radio: https://revleftradio.com/ Outro Beat Prod. by flip da hood

Tucker and his ilk have found a way to monetize many of our grievances while ensuring we never solve them. The same people who foisted Trump upon us for 10 years without building a parallel movement on any other issue are now complaining that he is betraying us, but they are offering no path forward. Today, I explain why grievance-mongering without actually trying to solve the problem just creates a false dichotomy between communism and fascism. Meanwhile, with social media algorithms, these people are able to earn millions off the monetization of grievance, which disincentivizes them to actually follow through on their stated beliefs when it matters. From COVID and immigration to Ukraine, foreign influence, crime, and marijuana, I demonstrate how Tucker never focuses on his stated beliefs when they would actually matter.
