*Explicit Content* In this episode we read - once again - out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"!   Happy Halloween...AGAIN!  Another month is in the books ladies and gentleman, that's right, 2018 is that much closer.  Thinking of your resolutions yet? Me either.  I say, worry about the present.  The verb present, which is what you are receiving with another episode of, Short Story Bingo! This story, is my favorite to date.  "Dancing Like We're Dumb" is written by Peter Atkins, who also wrote, Hellraiser: II, III, IV!  In a very modern tale in LA, you can feel, smell, and picture vividly.  I swear, this story had me from the first sentence, as it begins with a description of a carjacking in literally something that I would have wrote for like a GTA bit or something.  It stays very compelling throughout, weaving in and out of the present and five hours before to detail how Kitty got in the position she is now.  Please excuse my little sniffles every now and again, I am a tad under the weather but made sure to get this out for YOU, 'cause i'm a soldier and no mucus will hold me down! *Explicit Content* In this episode we read out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"!   I strolled my happy ass into Barnes and noble recently to go pick up, "The Art of the Donald".  Seriously - I did.  Instead I got lost in the short stories and damn mystery/horror section again.  Mind you, after watching, "IT" I was itching to read something scary. So, in short, fuck you Donald, a short ass fictional story won that purchase escapade. I quickly was enthralled with all the new authors I was being introduced to, the new takes on horror, and just a big ass book full of content to introduce to you all!  Mark Samuels has a very expansive vocabulary and a way to breakdown a location so well.  "The tower" will show you that.  In my attempt to pronounce words that I was just reading whilst also keeping pace with the momentus story line was a pleasure. Well you just listened to one of our first ON THE STREET interviews. We mentioned that would be part of our shows going forward. We've mostly done pre-arranged interviews…. News that impacts Families. What I do when I don't have a scheduled interview - I go out and interview random people - Check out the show notes – pic of me with my interview gear on. - Several weeks ago I spoke to some folks about motherhood on Mother's day and we got into what makes a great marriage. (insert Mothers Day Interview #1) Commenting on second interview – talking about marriage – 1. Commitment vs Feelings 2. Love is not a feeling – it's an action – a. Scripture – 1 Corinthians 13 b. http://biblehub.com/niv/1_corinthians/13.htm 3. Lots of folks lose their marriage. And give up on it. Because the feeling is gone. 4. That feeling can come back. Large parts of our society are having problems because they are ruled by feelings. a. Drug addicts – ruled by feelings. b. Depressed? Have a pill – instead of dealing with your feelings we introduce you to the culture of drugs c. Bipolar? Mood swings – d. Narcissist – selfishness e. These are all sin issues. 5. The best title for a marriage book ever is Dave Harvey's – When Sinners say I do. It's a very good book. I think my favorite is Timothy Keller's Marriage book but that's mostly because I listen to his podcast a lot. Anyway – The Title is so good because it eliminates the false assumption that you've married the perfect person. You've married another person that struggles with sin just like you do. 6. I went to lots of marriage counseling and seminars and for the longest time I struggled with trying to fix me. I always wanted to fix my wife but that's impossible. WE have to fix ourselves, humble ourselves. A lot of times we don't want to deal with that. 7. I do have to say I keep meeting incredibly mature Christians in this Family Court Reform movement and I think a lot of them have been matured by the experience of family strife. 8. They have been matured by the refiner's fire. a. Isaiah 48:10 ESV Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. b. Proverbs 17:3 ESV The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the LORD tests hearts. Talking to my buddy Jay the weekend about Jesus. Every stupid thing we do in this country is because we try to figure things out while we leave out the most important variable there is. Our creator. Seriously – Why do we have so many problems? Did you ever do algebra? If you want to figure out a + b = c its easy if you know two of the three variables. If you only know one its impossible. You can guess and you'll come out correct, sometimes.
