The Perpetual Chess Adult Improver Series is back, but this time with a twist. We feature a senior guest who is “more interested in sustainment than improvement”, and we have a guest co-host joining the conversation! Our guest, Paul Hedrick is a 56 year old literature and history teacher based in New Mexico. Paul enjoys listening to Perpetual Chess, but felt that older, less improvement focused chess lovers like himself were underrepresented on the podcast. To help guide the conversation, I enlisted the help of Han Schut. Han is a Chess Steps trainer, a Chessable Author and a frequent contributor to New in Chess magazine. The three of us try to sort out questions such as: Why does Paul study chess daily if his goal is not to improve? How can one know if they should shift their goals from “Adult Improver” to “Senior Sustainer?” How should one supplement the curriculum of the Chess Steps method? Both Paul and Han offered great perspectives on the different roles chess study can play in one's life, so I hope you all enjoy the conversation as I did. “They fuck all over the house. And I watch. Lynette spreads her legs on the toilet and pees for Clifton. And I watch. She sits on his face while he lounges on the couch with an after dinner glass of wine.I sit on the adjoining couch. And I only get the wine. But I watch. I watch, and I stroke myself off into one of the handkerchiefs I purchased the third day”and then there is this...“This time he reached between his legs and soaped his balls, slowly stroking and squeezing them while the soapsuds ran down his leg.Lauren moved her foot from the floor and brought it up on the bench next to her, while she bent her knee away from her body, opening herself even wider.By the time he turned around to face her again she had two fingers buried to the second knuckle.Seeing the state of his hard cock, she groaned softly and began to pump her fingers in and out of her wet pussy grazing her clit just enough to bring her to the edge of coming and keep her there.”There you have it. Just a taste of what's to come in this episode of deliciously Dirty Poetry.Stay with me for the rest of the episode and I'll give you the whole enchilada. The theme of this episode is to watch and be watched. The voyeur and the exhibitionist. Our first story is about a possibility that you might not have considered. In today's world, even with our infinite variety of blended families, even with all of our polyamory and our monogamish relationships, and the multitude of a romantic and erotic and domestic arrangements...Still... perhaps you might not have considered the possibility of the live-in voyeur. You'll discover that uncommon arrangement in “Making Myself At Home”, the first story in this episode of Dirty Poetry. This flight of fancy, this ingenious invention, is a product of the soaring mind of the author, Jeremy Edwards.Jeremy Edwards is the author of what he calls the erotocomedic novels, "The Pleasure Dial" and "Rock My Socks Off" along with the erotic short story collection "Sparked My Moment”.His stories have appeared in over 50 short story anthologies, including several volumes in the Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica series. The editor of the Mammoth Book erotica series, Maxim Jakubowski says: “Jeremy Edwards leads the pack of a new scintillating generation of American erotica writers who combine wit and sexiness in equal parts”.Both of our stories do come from the volume in that series that is entitled “The Mammoth Book Of Quick And Dirty Erotica”, an anthology of very short erotic stories edited by Maxim Jakubowski. Our second author is an experienced craftsperson in the world of erotic writing. D. L. King has written short stories that have appeared in over 75 different anthologies. Among them, “Best Women's Erotica”, “Best Lesbian Erotica”, “Girl Crazy”, “Frenzy”, “Yes, Ma'am”, “Yes, sir.”, and “The Mammoth Book Of Best New Erotica” from our own editor, Maxim Jakubowski. In addition, D. L. King has edited 13 anthologies of short stories herself. Among them, “The Harder She Comes, Butch Fem Erotica”. That one was the winner of the Lambda Literary Award and the Independent Publishers Gold Medal.D.L. Nina Allan has won the British Science Fiction Award, the Novella Award, the Kitschies Red Tentacle and France's Grand Prix de L'Imaginaire. Her first published piece of fiction appeared in a magazine called Dark Horizons in 2002. Since then, her stories have featured in numerous magazines and anthologies including The Year's Best Science Fiction, Best Horror of the Year and The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime. Her latest book, The Good Neighbours, is released on 10 June 2021.We loved talking to Nina about her lifelong love of speculative fiction, including science fiction, the gothic, weird fiction and good old fashioned ghost stories and why she is particularly interested in work that tests the boundaries of genre: playing with philosophical ideas, savouring language, and experimenting with form. We talked about how SFF and horror cons can be a great place for budding writers to make connections, and hear about her rather unique redrafting process!Links:Buy The Good Neigbours and Nina's other books now!Visit Nina's websiteCymera Festival 2021Watch our video panel Page One Sessions as we discuss writing with great authors: https://youtu.be/gmE6iCDYn-sThe Page One Podcast is brought to you by Write Gear, creators of Page One - the Writer's Notebook. We are talking about the Death of Medbh in this episode and we also talk about our online storytelling course. The storytelling course is 2 hours per week, Saturdays from 3-5 pm over 6 weeks, starting on the 9th of January. Each session will start with a short lecture on the day's theory topic, and the rest of the session is interactive practical exercises, exploring that aspect of storytelling that we have chosen. We are pricing it at €50 per class (so €300 in total) but if you are interested and struggling with finances we can talk about what you're able to afford (the world is mental at the moment so we want to include as many people as possible that would like to do this course). We will be using Irish myths as the material to practice on and play with throughout the course. Participants will be helped to choose a story or character to focus on, and will work on that story throughout the course, performing it at the end of the course. https://candlelittales.ie/product/storytelling-training-online-zoom/ Email us on candlelit.tales@gmail.com to reserve your spot. In this episode, the amazing M Christian reads Prêt à Porter. Calling M.Christian versatile is a tremendous understatement. Extensively published in science fiction, fantasy, horror, thrillers, and even nonfiction, it is in erotica that M.Christian has become an acknowledged master, with stories in such anthologies as Best American Erotica, Best Gay Erotica, Best Lesbian Erotica, Best Bisexual Erotica, Best Fetish Erotica, and in fact too many anthologies, magazines, and sites to name. M.Christian's short fiction has been collected in many bestselling books in a wide variety of genres, including the Lambda Award finalist Dirty Words and other queer collections like Filthy Boys and BodyWork. He also has published collections of erotic science fiction including Rude Mechanicals, Technorotica, Better Than the Real Thing, Bachelor Machine, Skin Effect, and Hard Drive: The Best Sci-Fi Erotica Of M.Christian. As a novelist, M.Christian has shown his monumental versatility with books such as the queer vamp novels Running Dry and The Very Bloody Marys; the erotic romance Brushes; the science fiction erotic novel Painted Doll; and the rather controversial gay horror/thrillers Finger's Breadth and Me2. But M.Christian has other tricks up his literary sleeve: in addition to writing, he is a prolific and respected anthologist, having edited 25 anthologies to date including the Best S/M Erotica series; Pirate Booty; My Love For All That Is Bizarre: Sherlock Holmes Erotica; The Burning Pen; The Mammoth Book of Future Cops, and The Mammoth Book of Tales of the Road (with Maxim Jakubowksi); Confessions, Garden of Perverse, and Amazons (with Sage Vivant), and many more. M.Christian is also a celebrated sexual futurist, both through his novels and short stories as well as being a Senior Columnist for Future Of Sex, which provides "insights into the fascinating topic of the future of human sex and sexuality." Finally, M.Christian is a sought-after columnist for kink and sex education sites like Kinkly, Hot Movies, http://fetish.com/ (Fetish.com), and many others--as well as lecturing at BDSM events all over the country. He also can be heard on the regular podcasts he does with Dr.Amy Marsh, "Love's Outer Limits," and Ralph Greco Jr, "Licking Non-Vanilla," info about which can be found at http://mchristian.com/podcasts.html (http://mchristian.com/podcasts.html). Alexander James Adams A professional musician of over forty years, Alec has always used magic in his performances to transform and inspire his listeners into states of being and realms of desire that leave them changed for the better. Using stories and songs of Antiquity, he creates places where the audience can find their unspoken secrets and address them with new inspiration. With twenty albums, a few spoken word stories and many collaborations with other musicians, Alexander applies transformational magic to his music in hopes of changing things that need to be changed. Heir to the music and legend of Heather Alexander, Alec performs her music and his own with a style that goes beyond reality and into the imagined.   Dee Astell Dee Astell co-founded and co-runs the Arizona Penny Dreadfuls. She’s the Fashion Manager for Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention, ran the steampunk track at Phoenix Comicon and has been Steampunk Coordinator for many others. She runs maker workshops across the southwest. She chaired Westercon 70, serves on the board at LepreCon, Inc. and is a member of CASFS and WesternSFA   Mark Boniece Mark has chaired 16 conventions in the Phoenix area and has lost count of the times he has volunteered in all areas of con running. He was Dealer Liaison and Hotel Liaison for Westercon 70. He's currently Chairman of CASFS and Vice President of WesternSFA. He has also served as a director and officer for several other fan groups in Arizona.   Emily Devenport Nine of her novels were published in the U.S. by NAL/Penguin/Roc, under three pen names. Her short stories were published in Asimov's SF Magazine, the Full Spectrum anthology, The Mammoth Book of Kaiju, Uncanny, Cicada, Science Fiction World, Alfred Hitchcock, Clarkesworld, Longshot Island and Aboriginal SF, whose readers voted HER a Boomerang Award. She blogs at emsjoiedeweird.com.   Gilead  Growing up in the magical fairyland of Prescott, AZ—located in the Bradshaw Mountain range just west of Cimmeria, east of Barsoom and near the mines of Moria—Gilead spent his youth sketching the dragons, goblins and fairies who always surrounded him but whom, sadly, most other people couldn't see. He continues to travel between worlds to draw and paint on location in such places as Narnia, Hyborea and Central Arizona, usually after convincing the most beautiful women of those realms to take their clothes off for him. It's a tough gig. "Fantasy and science fiction are so strongly associated with the illustration of books that it confuses people to meet a fantasy artist who isn't an illustrator, but I got my fill of commercial art in the sign business. My style is realism with a heavy dose of whimsy. It's all in good fun. I don't take myself too seriously; I just like to make cool pictures." Now a retired sign painter and something of an environmentalist, Gilead likes to paint on recycled materials such as lumber, cabinet doors and old signs. "What I do take seriously is the environment and ways to make it better. My current focus is mostly on the social and environmental impact of making art with recycled materials." See more at https://www.facebook.com/GileadArt   Professor Sparks Professor Sparks presents unique and spectacular high voltage shows, demonstrating some of the rare and unique electrical artifacts and apparatus he has been collecting for decades. By day a safety expert training OSHA compliance officers all across the U.S., Professor Sparks presents spectacular visual displays of high voltage arcs, sparks and bolts of electricity with a 500,000 volt Tesla coil and equipment from Ken Strickfaden's set for the 1931 Frankenstein, including the Cosmic Ray Diffuser, the Digital Disputer and the Nebularium, not to forget the 75,000 volt lightning screen. Back in April, Liz and Ben attended the seventh bi-annual Australian Discworld Convention, Nullus Anxietas VII! They enlisted fellow convention guest (and friend of the podcast), author Tansy Rayner Roberts, to discuss the earliest Discworld short story: 1991's Troll Bridge! Cohen the Barbarian has led a long life, but his greatest glories and biggest adventures seem far behind him. It's time to tick a few items off his bucket list - starting with facing a troll in one-on-one combat. But when he and his annoying talking horse reach one of the few troll bridges left on the Disc, things aren't as straightforward as they were in the old days... With the Snowgum Films adaptation of Troll Bridge being screened at the convention, it seemed only right to cover the source material in this, our first ever live show! Like a lot of Pratchett's work, Troll Bridge is by turns silly and deep, drawing on the traditions of Tolkien and Howard while at the same time pointing out that their worlds couldn't stay the same forever. Did you find it poignant? When do you think it happens in Cohen's timeline? And is a short story enough for an entire podcast? We'd love to know! Use the hashtag #PratchatNA7 on social media to join the conversation. We'd like to extend our warm thanks to everyone who attended the convention; you all made us feel so welcome, and it was such a special experience to be among so many Discworld fans, speaking on panels and chairing debates and meeting you all! Especially big thanks to those of you who came to be in our first live audience, and to the massive team of hard-working volunteers at Nullus Anxietas, without whom fan conventions like this just couldn't happen. That goes eig- er, one more than sevenfold to Suzie Eisfelder, Lisa Lagergren, Steve Lewis and all the other members of the committee, who organise such a massive undertaking every two years. We hope to see you all in Sydney in 2021 for Nullus Anxietas 7A! We hope to do some more live shows in the future, probably as bonus episodes like this one. Regular episodes will continue to be released on the 7Ath of each month...and in episode 21, coming up next in July 2019, you can find out what Genghiz Cohen did next as we discuss Interesting Times. Show Notes and Errata: Tansy Rayner Roberts is an award-winning writer and podcast host. She's written fantasy novels, short fiction, feminist essays and much more; of particular interest to Pratchat listeners is Pratchett's Women, a collection of essays about the women in the Discworld novels. She co-hosts the podcasts Galactic Suburbia (about sci-fi and writing in Australia) and Verity! (about Doctor Who), and has her own fiction podcast Sheep Might Fly. You can find Tansy on the web at tansyrr.com, on Patreon at patreon.com/tansyrr, and also on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.Troll Bridge was first published in the 1991 anthology After the King: Stories In Honour of J.R.R. Tolkien, the most recent edition of which was released in 2012. Other authors in the collection include Stephen R. Donaldson, Jane Yolen, Gregory Benford, Emma Bull, Poul and Karen Anderson, Judith Tarr, Harry Turtledove, Karen Haber and Charles de Lint, among others. The story was reprinted in 2001's The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy (which also features stories by Neil Gaiman and Terry Jones) and A Blink of the Screen, a 2012 collection of Pterry's short fiction. The short film Troll Bridge by Snowgum Films was adapted for the screen and directed by Daniel Knight, and stars Don Bridges as Cohen, Glenn van Oosterom as the horse and John Jenkins as Mica. It was a mammoth undertaking, especially considering it's a fan film, albeit an extremely polished one: the cast and crew all worked without pay, with production costs paid for by a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. It's currently screening in film festivals and fan conventions around the world, but you can still pre-order a digital,

"Oral Argument" (2015) by Kim Stanley Robinson, which has the same premise but it's tattoos instead of hair. Follow the show on Facebook (@SkiffilyPodcast) and Twitter (@SkiffilyPodcast). *Explicit Content* In this episode we read - once again - out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"!   Happy Halloween...AGAIN!  Another month is in the books ladies and gentleman, that's right, 2018 is that much closer.  Thinking of your resolutions yet? Me either.  I say, worry about the present.  The verb present, which is what you are receiving with another episode of, Short Story Bingo! This story, is my favorite to date.  "Dancing Like We're Dumb" is written by Peter Atkins, who also wrote, Hellraiser: II, III, IV!  In a very modern tale in LA, you can feel, smell, and picture vividly.  I swear, this story had me from the first sentence, as it begins with a description of a carjacking in literally something that I would have wrote for like a GTA bit or something.  It stays very compelling throughout, weaving in and out of the present and five hours before to detail how Kitty got in the position she is now.  Please excuse my little sniffles every now and again, I am a tad under the weather but made sure to get this out for YOU, 'cause i'm a soldier and no mucus will hold me down! Having said that, press play, enjoy, like, share, rate and subscribe! It really helps...at least that's what they say.   #RandomTwitterFollowerShoutOut @singwithdoreene   Buy the book. *Explicit Content* In this episode we read out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"!   I strolled my happy ass into Barnes and noble recently to go pick up, "The Art of the Donald".  Seriously - I did.  Instead I got lost in the short stories and damn mystery/horror section again.  Mind you, after watching, "IT" I was itching to read something scary. So, in short, fuck you Donald, a short ass fictional story won that purchase escapade. I quickly was enthralled with all the new authors I was being introduced to, the new takes on horror, and just a big ass book full of content to introduce to you all!  Mark Samuels has a very expansive vocabulary and a way to breakdown a location so well.  "The tower" will show you that.  In my attempt to pronounce words that I was just reading whilst also keeping pace with the momentus story line was a pleasure. This is a psychological thriller, which is not a spoiler, just saying don't expect anything all gory and overly apt to depict a ghoul that is at times way to over the top anyway.  Having said that, press play, enjoy, like, share, rate and subscribe! “Unraveling” by K.G. Anderson (Originally published in Triangulation: Beneath the Surface.) "Sarah -- he's using you!" My voice rose into the whine my daughter loathed, but I couldn't stop. I pressed the phone to my ear. "You're 16. I absolutely forbid -- " My runaway daughter informed me that she hated me. "Have fun with the old witches," she said, and hung up. I climbed out of the car, slammed the battered door, and slumped against the sun-baked metal. Gradually my heartbeat slowed, but still felt frighteningly uneven. Fail-ure, fail-ure, FAIL-ure, it thumped. K.G. Anderson grew up listening to her elders, many of whom held to the ways of the Old Country. What they talked about — and what they refused to discuss — inspires much of her fiction. You’ll find K.G.’s stories in anthologies such as Second Contacts, The Mammoth Book of Jack the Ripper Stories, Triangulation: Appetites, and Alternative Truths, as well as online at Metaphorosis, Ares Magazine, and Every Day Fiction. May 5, 1968. After not hearing from him for three days, the fiancee of 62-year old character actor Albert Dekker (star of such films as “Dr. Cyclops”, “Kiss Me Deadly” and “The Wild Bunch”) enters his Hollywood apartment. She is horrified to discover him hanging dead inside the bathroom. The bizarre manner in which Dekker is found suggests that he was involved in some sort of sadomasochistic sexual activity when he died. The initial ruling is suicide before it is changed to accidental death via autoerotic asphyxiation, but since a large amount of money and valuables seem to be missing from the apartment, suspicion mounts that Dekker was a victim of foul play. On this week’s minisode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we examine one of the strangest unexplained deaths in Hollywood history. Namely, to guide the flow and pace of the author's work and not distract the listener with "acting". He find narrating a mentally challenging activity, followed by endless hours of editing, which he finds oddly relaxing. Perhaps because it's similar to his day job, where he’s paid to find mistakes with a red Sharpie. Andy currently lives in San Francisco, and his contact info and demo can be found at VoiceOfAndy.com

Amanda Earl writes erotic fiction in Ottawa, Canada, as much for her own pleasure as anything else. Her stories have consistently been selected for publication in Carroll and Graf's annual Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica. Amanda publishes and writes poetry, is managing editor of the Bywords Quarterly Journal, and hosts Bywords.ca, a website invaluable to Ottawans interested in local literary events. We talk here about the definitions of erotica and pornography (a common joke: “Erotica is when you use a feather. Pornography is when you use the whole chicken), red wine versus white, connecting with and arousing readers, giving pleasure, the act, golden showers, being bad, the Erotica Readers and Writers Association, S&M, compelling characters and work as prostitution.
