Fan Favorite Julie Plake McMinn. You know Julie Plake, The “Coordinator of Chaos" from the Iconic Bravo shows “Bethenny Getting Married” and “Bethenny Ever After.” Julie talks meeting Bethenny Frankel, working for Bethenny during the start, rise and sale of the Skinny Girl Empire, what she learned from Master B herself, what a typical work day looked like, what it was like to film a hit Bravo TV show, the decision to ultimately leave the B, and what that conversation looked like. Julie was also there for the beginning of Bethenny's relationship with Jason Hoppy, which we dissect. We chat with Julie about Bethenny's life post Bravo, post Jason and oh, so very much more. Two of the Iconic Bravo shows of yesteryear and today Julie joins us to mention it all! Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Alicia: Hi there, thank you for your time. I would like to know what kind of cleanse you would suggest for someone who has arthritis, neuropathy and gut issues. Lots of inflammation and already gluten free. Has had a long standing relationship with pharmaceuticals due to multiple injuries and is now off prescriptions but dealing with a fragile nervous system and digestive system. Thank you. S: Hi Dr. Cabral. Our 11 year old son still wets the bed from time to time. In fact lately, it's gotten worse. He is top of his class, a heavy reader, extremely inquisitive and very very active and talented in sports. BUT he is small for his age (15th percentile) and hyperactive at times. Any advice would be invaluable. Thanks. Joy: Hi Dr. C, Thanks for all you do! Let's assume you have a post-menopausal family member who read the book Estrogen Matters and made the decision to go on HRT for benefits to brain, bones and symptom relief. She feels better but still has terribly disruptive sleep. She took the Stress, Mood and Metabolism Test and had values indicating high nighttime cortisol and elevated hormones except DHEA which was out of range low. She's done CBO protocol and has been on the sleep protocol for a month with limited relief. Would you suggest she get off HRT or continue HRT while incorporating something else to get to more optimal ranges or do you think it's mainly the nighttime cortisol that's causing the sleep problems? Seems like both issues may be impacting. No room here to share specific values. Anonymous: I did tests from EquiLife and am working to reverse my PCOS symptoms. Long story short I still have high testosterone despite working at it for a few years and alleviating a lot of other symptoms. HTMA and OAT showed low vitamins and minerals even though I have been supplementing and eating well for years. So we looked at digestion and stool testing revealed an IGA of 4, low elastase, low propionate, NG for Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, few commensal bacteria, no dysbiotic flora or yeast. I worked through the mold protocol and am now on the heavy metal. As part of my protocol, I have been doing weekly enemas. I am on month three of doing them weekly and today I passed what I believe was a mucus plug hours afterwards. Is this something to be concerned about? Can I continue enemas? Jana: 39 female. 3 years w/ your coach I've healed my gut, finished all your protocols & testing.I continue w/ your supplements & suggestions (sauna, walking).I'm struggling with chronic fatigue & inflammation, immunodeficiency, nasal MARCONs (past exposure) & scalp psoriasis.I've had infections most of my life (strep, pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus).Doctors suggested Pepcid + Allegra 4x daily (MCAS) + LDN (hEDS).I'm trying to avoid lifelong biologics + immune therapy.Does your histamine protocol replace/support the suggested Pepcid/Allegra combo for MCAS?What recommendation for rebuilding my immune system?15 of 22 pneumococcal titers are nonprotective despite 3 PPV23 vaccines. I take Histpro + Vit C & Inflamma Soothe + others. Increase dosage? Need guidance on supplementation & what else to try. In this episode, my guest is Dr. Sean Cain, PhD, a Harvard Medical School-trained expert in the impact of light on the human circadian system, a Matthew Flinders Professor at Flinders University, and Co-Founder and CEO of Circadian Health Innovations. Today, he discusses how people differ more than fiftyfold in how sensitive their circadian systems are to evening light, that nearly half of modern homes are bright enough at night to suppress melatonin by fifty percent, and that most of us have no conscious awareness of any of it. We discuss the large observational studies he and his team have published linking bright days and dark nights to depression, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mortality, as well as his research on impaired light sensitivity in depression and why the amplitude of your circadian rhythm may matter more than its timing. We also discuss MiEye, the wearable light sensor his team developed, and practical changes to home and daytime lighting that anyone can make tonight.CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL SHOWNOTESThis includes all other resourcesSponsor: Brighter Lamphttps://getbrighter.com/?sjram=P2jrTbowzJOdCode: JONATHANJ Subscribe to the newsletter: https://jonathanjarecki.substack.com/?utm_campaign=profile_chipsTimestamps 00:00 Intro03:54 Dr. Sean Cain04:42 Dr. Cain's Love for Science and Research10:25 Understanding Circadian Rhythms: Anatomy and Function10:56 Setting the stage: Circadian Biology, Rhythms, SCN, ipRGCs16:20 Light, Circadian Entrainment, Mechanisms19:57 High Sensitivity and Interindividual Variability in the Response of the Circadian of the Human Circa22:02 Individual Sensitivity to Light and Circadian Disruption27:22 Home Lighting, Sunset, LEDs, Fluorescents, Incandescents27:37 Home Lighting and Its Effects on Circadian Health33:46 Tools: circadian friendly home lighting39:24 Population health outcomes; UK BioBank39:29 Psychiatric Disorders47:52 SPONSOR: Brighter Lamp49:34 The Link Between Light Exposure and Mental Health01:04:18 Light Exposure and Longevity: Key Findings01:09:45 The Importance of Daylight for Health01:17:41 Understanding Circadian Rhythms and Light Exposure01:17:52 The Impact of Light on Mood and Self-Perception01:23:39 Innovations in Circadian Health: My Eye Device01:34:15 Jet Lag Management and the Jet Lag App01:39:09 Support, YouTube, Spotify & Apple Follow, Reviews & Feedback, Social Media, Substack Newsletter

Brooke Bralove has spent 22 years as a sex therapist helping women figure out what's actually going on when desire disappears. Her take: your desire isn't broken or gone, it's just stuck. She joins Em and Cass to talk about why the sex we had at the beginning of a relationship isn't coming back (and why we need to grieve that), why "just try to be in the mood" is terrible advice, and how a new kind of therapy called ART is helping women unstick everything from low libido to body image spirals in as little as one session. Looking down at a screen changes your posture, slows your pace, and disconnects you from the environment around you. Research suggests that walking while focused on a smartphone may reduce some of the mental and emotional benefits of walking, including improvements in mood and connectedness with nature, while also altering normal walking mechanics. Chronic pain in older adults can affect mobility, mood, sleep, social connection, and independence. Una Makris, M.D., M.Sc., UC San Diego and VA San Diego Healthcare System, explains why musculoskeletal pain is common later in life and why medications or procedures alone may not meet the needs of many patients. Drawing on her work in rheumatology and geriatrics, Makris describes how pain and depression can reinforce each other, making it important to address both together. She highlights an age-friendly behavioral coaching approach that uses motivational interviewing, values-based goal setting, physical activity, and social support to help people reconnect with meaningful activities. By focusing on small, safe increases in movement, this research points to practical ways to support better function, quality of life, and healthy aging. How you feel on Sunday night tells you something real about your relationship with work. Amy Leneker, the author of Cheers to Monday, calls it one of the most honest assessments we have, and she would know. Seven weeks into medical leave after a panic attack, she sat in a doctor's office, got handed a questionnaire, and could not answer a question about what she did for fun. In this conversation, Amy walks through what she learned from that unraveling and the research that followed. She explains the difference between the stress that helps you perform and the stress that wears you down, and why leaders and their teams so often talk past each other on exactly that point. She shares the zero-to-10 question that opens up a conversation about stress without putting anyone on the spot, her three-step See, Sort, Solve method, and how to separate what you can control from what you cannot. There is a lot in here you can use this week if you lead people. Including one calendar trick involving a standing Friday appointment with Dr. Green. About our guest Amy Leneker is the founder and CEO of the Center for Joyful Work and the author of Cheers to Monday: The Surprisingly Simple Method to Lead and Live with Less Stress and More Joy, published by Wiley in 2026. The book debuted as the number one bestselling business book on the USA Today list. Amy spent more than two decades in leadership, including ten years in the C-suite, before burnout forced a different path. She has studied leadership at Yale, neuroscience at the NeuroLeadership Institute, and stress resilience at Harvard Medical School. In this episode, I sit down with nutritional psychiatrist, professional chef, and bestselling author Dr. Uma Naidoo to explore the fascinating science behind the gut-brain connection and what it means for parents. Rather than focusing on restriction or perfection, Dr. Naidoo shares a practical, realistic approach to using food as one more tool to support your child's emotional well-being. Together we explore: Why your child's gut may be influencing far more than just digestion. The surprising reason adding foods to your child's diet may be more powerful than taking foods away. What most parents misunderstand about protein, and the nutrient no one is talking about that many kids are actually missing. How ultra-processed foods may be affecting mood, focus, and emotional regulation in ways you wouldn't expect. Simple swaps that can support your child's brain without making mealtimes more stressful. Why "food as medicine" isn't about replacing therapy or medication, but giving your child another layer of support. The mindset shift that makes healthy eating feel more realistic, sustainable, and far less overwhelming. Easy, family-friendly strategies that can help nourish both your child's body and brain. Whether you're raising a picky eater, wondering how nutrition fits into your child's mental health, or simply looking for realistic ways to support your family's well-being, this conversation will leave you with practical ideas you can start using right away. Summary Ali discusses the complex factors behind middle age weight gain, debunking myths about hormones and stress, and offering practical strategies for sustainable health and weight management. Key Topics Hormonal changes and weight gain Impact of stress and lifestyle on metabolism The role of muscle mass and activity levels Myths about menopause and weight Mindfulness and nervous system regulationTakeaways Weight gain in middle age is influenced by multiple factors, not just hormones or stress. Aging leads to decreased activity and muscle mass, affecting metabolism. Tracking bites, licks, and tastes can help control calorie intake. Hormone balancing alone rarely results in weight loss; lifestyle factors are crucial. Mindfulness and somatic tracking can address emotional eating and nervous system hypersensitivity. What if the only thing standing between you and a productive week is waiting until you "feel like it"? This Monday Mindset episode is a reminder that your mood doesn't get to dictate your movement. We talk about why motivation is unreliable, how action creates momentum, and share a simple challenge to help you stop procrastinating and start making progress—just five minutes at a time. Here's to a week of living intentionally.
Hope is often mistaken for a feeling of optimism, but for many people it looks much quieter: the decision to stay alive and keep going even when nothing feels certain. In this episode, we explore how hope is less about feeling inspired and more about choosing, day after day, to remain open to the possibility that life can change. Sometimes the most meaningful act is not thriving—it's surviving.Key TakeawaysHope is not a mood; it is a decision. You do not need certainty to keep going.Survival is a meaningful achievement.Choosing “one more day” is an act of courage.Staying alive preserves the possibility of connection, healing, and purpose.Quiet hope often sounds like: “I'm not done yet.”Thrive With Leo Coaching: If you want to reduce your psychological pain, regain your purpose and forge your own path, go to www.thrivewithleo.com to begin your journey. If you or anyone you know is considering suicide or self-harm, or is anxious, depressed, upset, or needs to talk, there are people who want to help:In the US: Crisis Text Line: Text CRISIS to 741741 for free, confidential crisis counseling. Anthony Sanchez shares his raw journey from childhood trauma and Houston street life to serving more than 10 years in the Texas prison system—and ultimately rebuilding his life after release. In this powerful interview, Anthony explains how poverty, abuse, addiction, gang culture, drug dealing, violence, and the prison environment shaped his early decisions. He opens up about losing his mother to a cocaine overdose, carrying a gun as a teenager, selling drugs, facing aggravated robbery charges, and receiving a 16-year prison sentence at only 17 years old. Anthony also gives an inside look at Texas prison politics, racial segregation, Tango Blast, corrupt correctional officers, contraband, violence, and the survival mentality required behind bars. After his release in 2022, he transformed his life through barbering, entrepreneurship, public speaking, social media, and community outreach. This episode is a story about crime, prison, accountability, redemption, rehabilitation, and the possibility of changing your life after incarceration. Go Support Anthony! What happens when the “perfect Christian wife” decides her life belongs to her after all? In this episode of The Rose Woman Podcast, Christine sits down with Tia Levings, New York Times bestselling author of A Well-Trained Wife and I Belong to Me: A Survivor's Guide to Recovery and Hope after Religious Trauma. Tia writes and speaks about the realities of religious trauma, evangelical patriarchy, and the trad wife life, decoding the fundamentalist influences in our news and culture; her work and quotes have appeared in Teen Vogue, Salon, Newsweek, the Huffington Post, and the hit Amazon docu-series Shiny Happy People. Together, Christine and Tia explore how high-control religion shapes women's bodies, marriages, motherhood, aging, and even our politics, why the trad wife aesthetic is so seductive right now, what happens when adult children step away from the faith of their families, and how to slowly rebuild a sense of self, boundaries, and spirituality on your own terms. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Tia is mom to four grown kids and, when she's not writing or speaking, she loves to travel, hike, paint, and daydream. If you've ever felt confined by an ideology, a relationship, or a role you were told to play, this conversation offers language, validation, and a gentle map back to yourself. In this episode, we cover so many topics, including:(00:00:35): Who Is Tia Levings, And Why Religious Trauma Matters(00:05:19): Childhood Move To The South And How A “Normal” Church Led Into High-Control Religion(00:09:21): Inside the organization by Bill Gothard (IBLP) And Tradwife Culture(00:12:28): How High-Control Christianity Glorifies Women's Suffering While Blocking Real Supports Like Childcare And Healthcare(00:14:29): The Cost To Women(00:17:02): Reclaiming Midlife As A Powerful “Queen Era” Of Women's Lives(00:19:32): Are Tradwives “Stupid”? Brian Kula took Nsima and me through a full speed session, then broke down the principles he has used with elite athletes, including Christian McCaffrey. We talk about why speed should be the priority, how to return to sprinting without getting hurt, why the best athletes still master the basics, and how rhythm, recovery, foot strength, and smarter weight-room training build real athleticism.Special perks for our listeners below!
Hormones. Mood swings. Brain fog. Night sweats. And why doesn't your shoulder work? The time is here for this whopper of a 3-part series on menopause with a total of five Ologists. No matter what your age or gender, you owe it to the people in your life who go through this to understand it. Brilliant and charming Dr. Mary Claire Haver is an OB-GYN who wrote bestsellers “The New Menopause” and the just-released “The New Perimenopause” and hosts the podcast unPAUSED. The wonderful and warm Dr. Monica Christmas is a professor and clinician with decades of experience in menopause treatment, and repeat guest Dr. Lara Durgavich is a primatologist who has some answers about why our species goes through “the change.” Part 2 covers what to DO about symptoms of menopause, from vagina creams to hormone replacement therapy to libido to brain clarity and the importance of lifting heavy stuff. And finally, Part 3 has advice for loved ones to help support people in their lives who are sailing the stormy seas of hormonal change.
