New data published by LinkedIn has revealed that labour markets across EMEA slackened in October, highlighting the growing competition professionals face to secure a new job. Job seekers are instead countering this trend by reducing their search intensity in favour of "job hugging" - the trend of staying put. In Ireland, job search intensity - the ratio of applications to applicants - fell by -3.9% year-on-year in October, over double the rate of decline in several EMEA-LATAM countries during the month, averaging at -1.5% YoY. Only the United Kingdom (down -9.4% YoY), France (-5.6%), and Germany (-4.4%) recorded higher falls than Ireland. Ireland continues to lead the way on flexible work Hybrid work remains the most popular flexible working option offered by companies in Ireland, with 37.3% of all job postings in October offered as hybrid. Ireland ties with the United Kingdom for the highest availability of hybrid across EMEA, above the average of 30.8% of job postings advertised as hybrid across the region during the same period. Ireland also ranks highly for pure remote positions, placing second in EMEA with 8.2% of all job postings offering the opportunity to work exclusively from home. Ireland ranks second only to the UK (8.6%) and also surpasses the European average (5.3%.) Remote roles remain some of the most in demand jobs, making up 14.7% of job applications in EMEA. Demand in Ireland was higher, with applications for remote jobs making up almost one in five (18.4%) job applications. Green talent more likely to land jobs LinkedIn's Green Skills Report 2025 has also revealed green talent is far more likely to secure a job, getting hired at a global rate of 46.6% above the global hiring rate. Across the world, Energy Management is the fastest-growing green skill category. The proportion of LinkedIn members that added this skill was 17.4% higher in 2025 than in 2024. A spike in AI-driven demand for energy and continued growth in renewable energy supply has led to these skills growing particularly quickly in the Technology, Information and Media and Utilities sectors. Commenting on the data, LinkedIn Ireland Country Manager Cara O'Leary said: "Internationally and in Ireland, we are seeing a trend where more workers are opting to stay in their current roles rather than actively seeking new opportunities. This is down to a more competitive jobs market as companies advertise fewer roles. This is coming through in our data where we have observed a decline in job search intensity, which fell by nearly 4% year-on-year in October. "At the same time, Ireland continues to stand out as a leader in flexible work, with hybrid roles now accounting for more than one-third of all job postings. Remote opportunities also remain highly sought after, with Irish workers applying to them at even higher rates than the European average. Flexibility continues to be a key differentiator for companies seeking to attract and retain the best talent. "Internationally and in Ireland, we're also seeing real momentum around green skills, with talent in this space being hired at rates well above the global average. Maharishikaa speaks on the oldest system in the realm of spirituality, the transmission of knowledge in the relationship between Guru and disciple. She elaborates that such a relationship between Guru and disciple begins when an individual becomes a seeker of Truth, wanting to know and experience something beyond the perceivable, and thus a search for the Guru begins. Maharishikaa says the Guru disciple relationship is like two players on a stage. The role of the Guru is to point out the ego to the disciple and constantly guide them toward the Antarguru (inner guide). The role of the Shishya (disciple) is to recognize that the ego is being pointed out by the Guru, and - consciously circumventing the ego - move toward the Truth being shown by the Guru. She describes the pitfalls for each: if the Guru fears pointing out the ego, or if the disciple gets angry at what's being shown, the relationship between Guru and disciple dissolves. The Leela (cosmic dance) unfolds when both live their roles to perfection. The disciple transforms and deepens in Self-realization — an essential step in spiritual awakening — leaving less ego for the Guru to chisel at, allowing the relationship to evolve into one of simple love flowing between the two. Maharishikaa offers the golden key to circumventing the ego that rears its head in the form of fear, anger, or jealousy. When the disciple realizes that these emotions - which are not intrinsic to the system — are threatening to take over, the disciple must bring himself or herself into this present moment — where the ego has no power, and the Truth reigns supreme. She asks that the disciple should remember each time jealousy or anger show up, that these emotions are physically destructive and harmful to the body — a key awareness in spirituality and ancient practices for the modern spiritual seeker. Commenting on whether there comes a point when the ego's intensity reduces, Maharishikaa illuminates the play of life from a new perspective. She illustrates how the direct connect to the Truth, which is solid at birth, gets increasingly obstructed as the child is socialized. These obstructions, She explains, can only be moved out of the way when the seeker undertakes active surrender processes of discerning whether their actions are emerging from the Truth within or the ego. When the seeker consciously circumvents the ego and acts from Truth, only then do these obstructions move away, allowing for a more direct connect once again. She warns, however, that if the surrender process is stopped, the seeker paves the way for the ego to once again obstruct the path to the Truth — a vital insight for any disciple walking the path of spirituality. Maharishikaa reveals the enormous impact of Truth action in a given moment, which holds the power to influence the course of past ego actions. Emphasizing that life is not a progressive continuum, She highlights that each moment holds enormous possibilities of change in inconceivable dimensions and directions — a deep realization in spiritual awakening. Circular.ie, Ireland's national platform for circular economy communications, has announced 40 community groups and organisations as recipients of the Circular Communications Grants, with a total value of €100,000. The scheme, funded by the Government of Ireland under the Circular Economy Fund, supports projects that are advancing circular living, strengthening community engagement and helping to build a more sustainable future across the country. Selected from more than 350 applications from all over Ireland, the successful recipients are delivering a diverse range of initiatives covering reuse, repair, upcycling, education and behavioural change. Ireland's ambitions to strengthen female leadership across its technology sector have taken a leap forward with the launch of NOVA - Women in Tech Leadership Programme, designed specifically for the top tier of emerging female tech leaders. Created by Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet in partnership with Connecting Women in Tech (CWIT), NOVA will focus on combining human-centred leadership with the advanced strategic technology and AI-enabled capabilities expected of senior tech leaders in the years ahead. For the Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet, the NOVA programme builds on a decade of impact on women in the technology sector, through its multi award winning women tech returner programmes, bringing over 900 women back to the tech sector, and impacting on gender balance across the sector. The initiative will see over 20 professionals from 25 CWIT member companies advance their leadership journey when the first cohort commences in January. Máire Hunt, Director of Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet, said: "As a sector we must continually find new ways to attract, retain and promote women. Particularly in the age of AI, women can be disproportionately affected. The NOVA programme is a high-performance accelerator specifically designed for women leaders who can shape the future of technology in an AI driven world. It equips participants not just to take a seat at the table, but to shape it." Women are often underrepresented in tech and AI leadership roles, which can influence how AI systems are developed and implemented. If AI systems are developed without diverse perspectives, they may perpetuate biases that disproportionately affect women. Una Fitzpatrick Director of Technology Ireland, said: "Women in Technology already excel in their technical domain. However, they are under-represented at more senior management positions. Companies across the sector are looking for a sector driven, development pathway that prepares female leaders to make an impact in an AI driven world." Companies such as Ergo, ADM, HPE, Workday, Kerry Group, ESB, Mastercard, Salesforce, BT, Accenture and Microsoft are represented. Commenting, Sabrina Staunton of Mastercard and CWIT, said: "CWIT exists due to the power of the network to attract, retain and promote females to thrive in the technology space in Ireland. We are excited to launch the first-of-its-kind development program to address the challenge of female talent retention across the Irish technology industry, through the power of partnerships built on our collective power to empower." In the last NdB Sunday Show of 2025, United States Intelligence Analyst, retired Colonel Chris Wyatt gives Chris Steyn his take on major political developments involving South Africa over the past year: from internal upheaval to military disaster on the Continent and diplomatic warfare on the international front. Commenting on evidence led at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Wyatt says: “…there's a niché market for criminality in South Africa. And it all starts…with BEE. It all gets linked to that and then the lack of law enforcement.” Giving a blow-by-blow account of the breakdown in SA-US relations, Wyatt slams accusations that the US is “attacking” South Africa. “The US hasn't attacked South Africa. You want us to attack South Africa? …There's a lot that could be done to South Africa. And what the US could do to South Africa today is far greater than sanctions…If the US wanted to hurt South Africa, we could crush the country overnight. That's not the goal of America, but that's what South African politicians keep telling everybody. Stop that. It's not helpful.” Col Wyatt, who has advised the National Security Council on SA, reveals what his current recommendations would be. Rugby fans and supporters at the recent South Africa versus Ireland game last weekend consumed over 2,000 GB of data, the equivalent of two million minutes of music streaming, according to Vodafone Ireland. The surge in data was driven by video recording, sharing and live streaming. Over 15,000 calls were made over the course of match-day - almost one third of the stadium made a phone call. During the Quilter Autumn Internationals, data usage at the stadium reflected strong engagement with fans attending the Japan game consuming almost 1,740 GB and Australia 1,771 GB. The fans at the South Africa game came in with the highest usage. Connectivity demand extended beyond rugby. At this summer's concerts featuring Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa, attendees consumed 5,137 GB of data across two nights. On the Lana Del Rey night alone, usage reached 2,633 GB, roughly the equivalent of ten years of nonstop podcast listening. Vodafone Ireland invests over €100 million annually in network improvements across Ireland, including upgrades at the Aviva Stadium which focus on delivering uninterrupted mobile and 5G coverage. To meet growing demand, Vodafone Ireland has also implemented network enhancements at Aviva Stadium as part of its nationwide investment program. These include: Deploying 5G capacity and spectrum utilisation in busy sectors. Optimising radios and backhaul for peak-hour demand. Continuous monitoring to adjust parameters during live events. Commenting on the figures, Sheila Kavanagh, Director of Vodafone Networks Ireland, said: "The data and voice activity we've seen at the Aviva Stadium this year shows just how essential reliable connectivity is for sports fans and music lovers. Over the course of the South Africa match-day alone, over 15,000 calls were made alongside significant data usage. Our ongoing investment, including 5G upgrades in the Aviva and throughout the country, ensures we can meet this demand and keep people connected during the biggest and most memorable moments." Investment also supported major summer festivals and cultural gatherings across Ireland. Temporary network sites and spectrum optimisation were deployed at events such as Flavours of Fingal, Bord Bia Bloom, Kaleidoscope, All Together Now and Electric Picnic where attendees relied heavily on navigation, social media, and streaming apps. Across these events, Vodafone Ireland managed over 220 TB of data, the equivalent of streaming 73 million songs! New research published by Repak has revealed that the Irish public will be more eco-conscious this Christmas. Almost 1 in 3 (30%) adults in Ireland are going to upcycle items to gift to a loved one and a similar amount (33%) will buy gifts that can have a second life to ensure that they last longer. Almost 4 in 5 (78%) shoppers see sustainability as an important factor when buying gifts, looking for products that are locally produced and whose packaging is recyclable. This eco-conscious mindset extends beyond gift giving, with almost half of households planning on reducing how much they spend on food and drink in a bid to cut back on waste. The days of buying mountains of wrapping paper are also over, with 57% opting to put presents in reusable or recyclable gift bags and over 4 in 10 (43%) planning on using wrapping paper that they have saved or newspaper to wrap gifts. Two thirds (66%) of the public are also planning on saving and storing gift packaging for next year. Local recycling centres are also set to see a spike in footfall after Christmas day, with two thirds (66%) of households planning to make a visit to dispose of waste. The Irish public is also getting creative with how they are giving their home a festive makeover, with approximately a third (30%) planning on using homemade decorations. Commenting on the research Repak CEO Zoe Kavanagh said: "Irish households are finding creative, thoughtful ways to make Christmas more eco-friendly, from upcycling gifts and reusing wrapping paper to cutting down on food waste. The fact that almost four in five shoppers are actively seeking locally produced and recyclable products speaks volumes about how engrained sustainability is becoming as part of our Christmas planning. At Repak, we want to make recycling simple, and we're here to help households recycle right this Christmas. Small actions like making sure all items are clean, dry and loose before recycling, make a big difference". Approximately 102,000 tonnes of packaging waste will be generated this Christmas and Repak is encouraging households to give back to the environment where possible. To make a real difference, shoppers should focus on recycling the packaging we use most in December: wrapping paper, boxes and mixed packaging. Repak's key Christmas recycling tips to follow are: The golden rule: Clean, Dry and Loose. The guidance adapts some of Wolfberg's seminal recommendations for correspondent banking relationships and can be "flipped" to serve banks considering dealing in stablecoin in various capacities. Wholesale broadband operator SIRO has announced it is launching a bespoke broadband product created for developers building new homes across Ireland. SIRO's new product, OpenPort, will streamline the delivery of fibre broadband services to housing developments by instead providing a shared access broadband infrastructure on-site. This will avoid, as currently occurs, the costly overduplication of telecom infrastructures amongst multiple operators seeking to provide services to new housing estates. Under forthcoming regulations, the Gigabit Infrastructure Act, which will take effect in Ireland from February 2026, developers are required to provide a fibre broadband infrastructure on-site, which is accessible to multiple telecoms network operators. SIRO's new product, OpenPort, responds to this requirement by providing developers with a shared access fibre broadband service for their new developments, which will be compliant with these regulations. Currently, to enable multiple operators to serve a housing development, developers have been required to accommodate multiple broadband infrastructures on-site. The negative impact of this method of rolling out fibre broadband in new developments has been the unnecessary duplication of broadband infrastructure on-site. This can lead to not only excessive expenditure, but also the avoidable use of limited site space to facilitate these multiple infrastructures. With SIRO's OpenPort, developers will still be able to accommodate multiple fibre broadband operators on their developments, but with the advantage of using a single network infrastructure, substantially reducing the cost of deploying fibre broadband networks to new homes across the country. A developer moving to SIRO's OpenPort product will also enjoy environmental benefits by reducing the construction works needed to facilitate fibre broadband rollouts. For homeowners and tenants, they will continue to enjoy choice and competition by maintaining access to multiple telecoms retailers. SIRO has announced that its first OpenPort new development site will be at Monaleen in Limerick city. The development, known as The Orchard, is being constructed by one of Ireland's leading developers, Homeland, and will see 131 new homes constructed at the site. These homes are expected to have first occupancy by Spring 2026. With Homeland Group's The Orchard development, the first new development to adopt OpenPort, SIRO has confirmed that the product will be available to all developers from 2026 onwards. Commenting on OpenPort, SIRO CEO John Keaney said: "Delivering fast and future-proofed fibre broadband infrastructure and services to new homes is a small but essential part of the construction of new homes overall. A high-quality fibre-to-the-home broadband connection is now a non-negotiable for all homes, supporting how we now live and work. "Like all the component parts of developing new homes, rolling out fibre broadband infrastructure comes at a cost - environmental, financial, resource and time - to broadband operators, developers and consumers." "Initiatives, like OpenPort, which can streamline the delivery process, reduce the timelines, and maintain efficiency and effectiveness of building fibre broadband networks in new developments, are key. By reducing overduplication of broadband networks on new development sites, SIRO's OpenPort will also give back much-needed site space to developers and provide wider sustainability benefits. Commenting on my recent debate with James White - part 1 of 3.

New provisional data from EirGrid shows that 43% of electricity in October came from renewable sources. The majority of renewable energy generated last month came from windfarms, which accounted for 36% of all electricity used in Ireland. Meanwhile, grid-scale solar made up around 2%.2 Total generation from wind energy amounted to 1073 GWh (Gigawatt hours) in October, compared to 920 GWh in September. Electricity system demand for the month stood at 2969 GWh, up slightly from September.3 This compares with official metered data which shows that system demand in October 2024 was 2,877 GWh. This data also shows that 41.5% of electricity came from renewables, with 35% of demand being met by wind energy and 1.1% from grid-scale solar, in October last year. Gas generation accounted for 39% of all electricity used in October and 16% was imported via interconnection. EirGrid recently released its annual Winter Outlook which helps to inform the electricity industry and supports preparation for the coming months. The 2025/26 report covers the period from 3 November 2025 to 5 April 2026. The analysis of Ireland's peak demand over winter indicates that a 1°C decrease in outside temperature results in a 55 MW increase in peak demand, reflecting the fact that electricity demand is heavily influenced by weather conditions. Commenting on the data, Diarmaid Gillespie, Director of System Operations at EirGrid, said: "Wind energy accounted for the majority of renewable generation in October, with total generation from wind energy amounting to 1,073 GWh (Gigawatt hours) over the month. "As we would expect at this time of year, we saw an increase in demand for electricity as we head into the colder months and darker evenings. We recently released our Winter Outlook, which forecast that there will be adequate generation capacity and a reduced risk of system alerts in the coming months."

Some days you just need some amazement and that's what I found in learning about what researcher Karl von Frish demonstrated in the first half of the 1900s about how bees see, how they navigate (!) , and what they are telling each other (!!) with the dances they do.
