Austin Channing Brown is a writer, speaker and media producer providing inspired leadership on racial justice. She is the author of I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness (https://amzn.to/2X8qyEc) and the Executive Producer of The Next Question: A Web Series Imagining How Expansive Racial Justice Can Be (https://www.tnqshow.com/). Austin started her career in the nonprofit world, focusing on homelessness and housing, youth engagement, and church operations before blazing her own path in speaking, consulting, media and writing. As a leader, educator, and producer, Channing Brown creates programming that centers the experiences of Black women, dismantling the foundations of white supremacy, while interweaving a way forward for all who will listen. Her nationally-celebrated first season of The Next Question included a slate of incredible contributors. Alongside her co- creators, Chi Chi Okwu and Jenny Booth Potter, the hosts examine complex topics affecting social justice while simultaneously celebrating the stories, personalities, and humanity of their guests. An added note before we dive into this powerful conversation. Our podcast episodes are often recorded weeks or months in advance, as was the case with this conversation. In the intervening time, we’ve all been horrified and devastated by the deaths of Ahmuad Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. Because of the gap between recording and air-dates, they are conspicuously absent from our conversation in a way that, I’m sure, would have different and been a part of the discourse had this conversation occurred at a later date. As I’ve shared elsewhere, silence and complacency are not options. Everything we explore in this conversation is as important and relevant as it’s ever been. We're excited to share it with you.You can find Austin Channing Brown at:Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/austinchanning/Website : http://austinchanning.com/Check out our offerings & partners: Grammarly: Grammarly doesn’t just correct your mistakes. This week Jeff has a conversation with The Next Question co-hosts Chi Chi Okwu and Jenny Booth Potter.  The Next Question is a revolutionary web series where racial justice happens face-to-face. It dares to ask hard questions, listen, and then ask the next question. Chi Chi and Jenny, along with Austin Channing Brown, sit with intellectuals and artists, activists and historians, journalists and authors to expand our imaginations for racial justice. In this episode Chi Chi and Jenny discuss the process of starting a web series like this.  They share the highs and lows of everything from production, booking guests and all that goes into setting the table for hard conversations about race. It gets a little meta when Chi Chi, Jenny and Jeff discuss the art of interviewing and being entertaining. Chi Chi and Jenny also touch on the many issues tackled in the Next Question and the line up of amazing guests.  All episodes of The Next Question are available at tnqshow.com. Host Mandy Asberry sat down with her husband Arron to talk about some tweets regarding racism in our country today. There were several things that happened in the news this week dealing with topics that are sensitive to the racial reconciliation movement. President Trump made a statement comparing his impeachment inquiry to a lynching and was defended by some Republican lawmakers like Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. There were many who were obviously outraged by the use of the term lynching. This happened in the same week that it was announced that the new memorial to Emmett Till was made bulletproof because of continual vandalism. We were able to highlight some great work being done by leaders like LaTasha Morrison through her organization Be The Bridge and her new book also titled Be The Bridge: pursuing God’s heart for racial reconciliation. We also talked about shows like The New Question hosted by Austin Channing Brown, Jenny Booth Potter and Chi Chi Okwu. We hope that today’s conversation will spark worthwhile conversations and change in your life as it has ours.

Chi Chi Okwu joins the show to discuss how Nigerian culture and her childhood growing up in Alabama influenced her love of food and desire to intentionally gather people and feed them great meals. We talk about creating opportunities for people to know they belong, and starting with what you have—whether a couch, table, or kitchen island. Chi Chi reminds us that life is too short not to eat great food with great people.
