This week Kadie chats with T. David (Dave) Ritter, a fisheries biologist, artist, and one of the founding members of the California White Shark Project. Throughout this episode we chat about Dave's career path, including his Master's research on fish movement in a remote tributary of the Smith River in Montana, how he and his wife (a non-game biologist for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks) have approached finding biology jobs in the same vicinity as each other, why everyone should become recreational river snorkelers, and more!   The California White Shark Project (CWSP), is run by Dr. Paul Kanive (featured in Episode 212); Scot Anderson, the founding father of white shark monitoring in the Northern Pacific Ocean; Maxine Meckfessel, their super talented outreach coordinator who does anything and everything to keep the CWSP going, their two captains: Ron Elliot and Pat Conroy, and of course Dave Ritter. You can donate to the CWSP directly here or you can purchase CWSP stickers from Dave's artist page here.   Check out Dave's amazing artwork and stickers at rittercraft.com. Thirty years ago today, the very first exchange-traded fund started trading on the American Stock Exchange. At the time, Bill Clinton had just moved into the White House and America was trying on a new role as the world's lone superpower. On Wall Street, an entire industry soon realized that the ETF was a revolution all its own. Today, there are more than 3,000 ETFs listed in the US,  plus another 6,000 international ones, and together they hold $6.8 trillion in assets. In “The ETF Story,” a special six-episode series originally published five years ago, Eric and Joel explore the origins of the first ETF and how it's come to dominate investing. Among those interviewed are Jack Bogle, Kathleen Moriarty, Bob Toll, Howard Kramer, Rob Arnott, Dave Ritter, Reggie Browne, Dave Nadig, John O'Brien, Bruce Bond and more. Here's episode 1. On Monday Oct. 19, 1987, the stock market fell 23 percent, the worst day ever for stocks two times over. It was in the aftermath of that crash that the idea for exchange-traded funds was born. And it came from a very unlikely place: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Strumbellas' Simon Ward & Dave Ritter discuss battling depression & anxiety, writing those earworm choruses, the pandemic's impact on musicians & more On the podcast this week, Mike’s welcomes back Simon Ward and Dave Ritter from folk-rock hit-makers The Strumbellas. Almost everybody knows these guys from hits like “Salvation,” “We Don’t Know,” and especially the inescapable single “Spirits.” They’re back with a new single, “Greatest Enemy,” which is the first release since they went on hiatus a couple years ago after Simon realized that the depression he had been dealing with for the past 15 years was no longer something he could deal with on his own. In this conversation, Simon opens up about that battle and the tough year he’s had, and why he defines “success” totally differently now than when he last chatted with Mike. The guys also dissect their songwriting and recording process, Simon reveals how he writes those big soaring choruses, and much more.

We are live tonight at 10pm CST talking all things Wrestling.  1-347-857-1060 is the number to listen via live.   We open the show tonight breaking down the entire New Japan Cup, and the outcome leading into MSG.  We also discuss that MSG show, and if the tournament winner was that obvious, or did Ryan just over think it?  We know Isaiah Davidson didn't, as he won the bracket challenge.    Speaking of MSG show, we talk the entire card and how big of a weekend stealer this one may be.  Is it balanced enough between both companies?  Does one stand out?  We talk everything.   Ryan cannot stop raving about his quarter one MVP in Kento Miyahara, who just had another show stealer and potential match of the year on March 19th against a first time challenger in Naoya Nomura.  Did they make a new star for the company?  The show drew the biggest gate of the year at Korakuen for this first time Title challenge, and the fans were totally behind him.  What's next for Miyahara, and can Nomura make a run in the Champions Carnival?   Alex says were going to "Shoot" tonight and Ryan couldn't ask for anything else.  What's the topic?  Who knows, but it will always be fun.  Dave Ritter also is going to call in early and talk about seeing The Elite at C2E2 from Chicago as well.   Make sure to like us on Facebook, follow @wrestlecast_ssm on Twitter, and subscribe on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, Radio Tune-In, Player FM, iHeart Radio and also on Spotify.  If you haven't, head over to www.prowrestlingtees.com/wrestlecast and grab yourself one of the new Midway style show shirts!   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/strongstylemedia/2019/03/26/wrestlecast-episode-114

Mike recently sat down for a wide-ranging conversation with frontman and songwriter Simon Ward and keyboardist Dave Ritter of The Strumbellas, who are about to release one of the most highly-anticipated Canadian albums of the year. That album, Rattlesnake, follows their breakout collection, Hope, and its inescapable single, "Spirits." Simon and Dave discuss what it's like to write the follow-up to a global hit song and the goals they're setting this time around. Simon also opens up about his battles with stress and anxiety and the importance of addressing mental health in the music industry. And really, that's just the beginning as the conversation touches on all kinds of topics, from the intimately personal to widespread industry trends. Before that, Andrew speaks with Matt Ellis of Villages, a new folk-focused project from the four members of long-running indie outfit Mardeen. Matt talks about what informed the decision to start an entirely new band at this point in their careers, the similarities and differences between the two projects and their respective workflows, whether they've encountered any growing pains transitioning between two distinct styles, and a lot more.
