Every day, millions of women struggle in their new (or existing) roles as mothers. No matter how much a woman desires to be a mother, the journey of motherhood can be scary and challenging. Motherhood is inherently imperfect, yet we often feel as if we should be perfect mothers who can “do it all.” In reality, the drain of striving for perfection—and comparing ourselves to others—makes being a mom even more difficult. Dayna M. Kurtz, LCSW, author, and motherhood expert, offers heartfelt tips for making the most of being a woman and a mom. In a world that often diminishes the value of motherhood and the huge effort it requires, let's pause to give mothers the support and credit they deserve. You have heard of childcare. Even eldercare, but how about Mothercare? My guest today guides new and veteran mothers alike through the best practices to care for themselves as they care for their children. As a new mom, she would have described her entry to motherhood as a failure to thrive. her transition to maternal life was a messy, painful journey. But she found that the birth of a mother deserves to be tended to in much the same way as the birth of a baby, with attention, devotion and the deepest kind of love. This is The Empowered Mama Podcast. Dayna M. Kurtz's Favorite Quote: "In giving birth to our babies, we may find that we give birth to new possibilities within ourselves." Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn If Dayna Kurtz was to get a tattoo with one word that she valued, what would it be? Perhaps the word "Atman," a Sanksrit word meaning "inner self" or "soul." It's a reminder that we are something other than our work, our egos, our bodies. It's easy to get wrapped up in this transient elements, but they are just that--transient--whereas the "atman" is ever-lasting. There's comfort in that.  Links For Dayna Kurtz Website: http://www.daynamkurtz.com/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/daynamkurtzmothermatters/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/daynam.kurtz Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/daynamkurtz The Empowered Mama is part of the Parents On Demand Network. I have been on a bit of a binge creating podcasts about Motherhood.  Possibly because I am knee deep into early childhood with two young children or because the subject is so deep and vast and many parents thirst for some guidance and support.  Regardless of the force behind this eruption, for the next month I hope you enjoy several podcasts on different aspects of Motherhood. In this episode of Yoga | Birth | Babies, I speak with author, speaker and licensed social worker about her new book, Mother Matters: A Holistic Guide to Being a Happy, Healthy Mom.  We have a very fun and lively conversation about “mother care”, the ever changing role of a mother and “fair fighting” with your partner as well as many of the ups and downs new parents face on the parenthood adventure. In this episode:  Dayna’s background and personal transition into motherhood that inspired the birth of her book, Mother Matters: A Practical Guide to Being a Happy, Healthy Mom Mother care – what is it and how is it currently intertwined into our culture How the role of the mother figure has changed in the last several decades The biggest disconnect between the idea and image of a mother “doing it all” and the reality many people live Challenges new parents face these days Self care and ways a new parent can incorporate acts of self care into daily routine “Fair fight” technique General themes or issue Dayna commonly when researching and writing her book. Final advice for new and expectant parents About Dayna: Dayna M.
