In 2001, Lisa Druxman became a mom and an entrepreneur. She was looking for a way to blend her passion for fitness with motherhood. “I decided to create a workout that I could do with my baby,” she recalls. “I didn't want to miss a moment of his new life but also knew that I needed to take care of myself.” Lisa created an exercise routine for new moms and realized that other mothers would benefit from working together to restore their well-being. Now she leads a business that brings exercise, companionship and support to tens of thousands of moms around the country. Stroller Strides grew over the years and added Fit4Baby (prenatal classes) and Body Well (habit-transformation program). All of the classes now make up the FIT4MOM brand. Lisa Druxman and FIT4MOM have been featured numerous times on NBC's Today Show, CNN, The Montel Williams Show, Access Hollywood and profiled in magazines such as Entrepreneur, Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, Self and more. In today's episode we are chatting with Amanda Grillot, owner of FIT4MOM Boca.  This allowed Emma to  fulfill her two passions; fitness and motherhood melded into one!!  Follow us @pelvicorerehab and share any questions you have on Pelvic Health or share your experience overcoming Pelvic Health related issues. Episode Notes:  How can a new mother achieve her fitness goals while being a great mom? How can fitness be fun, rather than a chore, for new moms? And their kids, too? Possible follow-up: can you escape the “mom guilt” of meeting your workout needs while having fun with your kids? Do you need to exercise inside, in your home or at a public gym? ( No, you can easily get out of the house! ) What are the benefits of a community of new moms? Working with pelvic health therapist: All of our clients are moms, they have been through pregnancy which is a huge physical change in our bodies, on top of all the mental and hormonal changes.   The feeling of not “snapping” back  or being as strong is a big thing that we should all have support in and be able to get educated in, for someone to help us and in turn helping ourselves.  Many women don't know where to turn….  Many of my clients don't want to do certain exercises, due to pain, discomfort and even peeing themselves.  Takeaways: You don't have to sacrifice fitness, feeling good and looking good when you're a mom.  Raising kids and fitness are not mutually exclusive, in fact they build on each other.  Ultimately the healthier you are as a mom, the better you are for your kids. And future grandkids.   Where can you find more of FIT4MOM? Hi everyone, welcome back to the Just Being a Mom podcast. Today, I wanted to share with you my experience of losing 10 pounds. As a busy mom, it can be challenging to find time to take care of ourselves, but it's essential for our health and well-being.Firstly, I want to say that losing weight isn't just about looking good or fitting into a certain size. It's about feeling healthy, strong, and confident. I had been struggling with the baby weight for a while, and I knew I needed to make a change. Here are some of the things that helped me lose 10 pounds:1. Setting a goal: I set a realistic goal of losing 10 pounds in two months. I broke it down into smaller weekly goals, which made it easier to track my progress.2. Portion control: I started measuring my portions and counting calories to make sure I was in a calorie deficit to become more mindful of how much I was eating. I used smaller plates and bowls, which helped me eat less without feeling deprived.3. Drinking water: I made sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. It helped me feel full and also kept me hydrated.4. Exercise: I started working out regularly, doing a mix of cardio and strength training. I also incorporated more activity into my day, like taking walks and playing with my kids.Overall, it took a lot of discipline and commitment, but I'm so proud of myself for reaching my goal. I feel more energized, confident, and healthier than ever before. I hope this inspires you to make positive changes in your own life. I've worn many hats throughout my life but Motherhood is by far the hardest but in the best way. These days you can catch me trying to look composed as I run a small fitness franchise, raise my kiddos, and find time for self-care. Prior to becoming a business owner and Mom I was working full-time in the film industry, decorating sets for television. Honestly, It was a career that I worked my butt off to get into, it was a 6 figure job with amazing benefits and I was good at it! When Parker, my oldest daughter, came into the world, the passions in my heart shifted from becoming an Emmy-winning decorator to being a Mom! My heart was now outside of my body and I needed to make a shift.During my maternity leave, I found an amazing fitness program that was tailored to moms who could work out with their kiddos in tow, It was called FIT4MOM. I was so scared to go to the first class that I had Michael come sit on the bench at the park just in case Parker was crying or something (postpartum anxiety is real y'all). I signed up for a membership and started going to classes as often as I could, it became a routine for Parker and me to head to the park. She would often nap in the stroller while I was able to workout, but it was more than that; I was able to have conversations with other women who were going through similar situations and phases of life that I was, and I was able to have a new form of self-care and a bonding experience for me and my daughter. I had instant community and a village that was with me through everything, including the diagnosis of a rare disease in my youngest daughter, River. I never felt alone, FIT4MOM was there to lift me up and hold me close (even during the pandemic mind you) When I was offered the opportunity to take over the franchise I almost didn't hesitate, I didn't know the first thing about running a business but I knew a lot about leadership, mom life, and fitness. So I jumped in, and it's been a hell of a ride, but for sure one worth waiting in line for!”Fit4Mom  is the country's largest fitness program for moms offering pre and post-natal fitness classes for every stage of motherhood. Have you ever wondered if the career path you were on before becoming a parent is still right for you now that you are raising your family?  Our guest for this episode, Carolyn Eckman of FIT4MOM Santa Cruz, joins us to share her story and her new definition of success in motherhood.   “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better weather by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here.  This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson   For this episode, we are joined by a very special guest.  Carolyn Eckman has been our administrative assistant extraordinaire for the past 4 years and is an integral part of the production of this podcast.  We have watched her and have been inspired by her evolution over the years and we are so excited to finally introduce you to her here.  Like many parents, Carolyn faced a hard decision after becoming a mama.  The cost of childcare was hardly offset by her salary and the trade-off of spending her days working in an office and away from her new baby caused her to adjust her compass.  On her daughter's first birthday, she launched her first entrepreneurial endeavor, Rebirth Business Consulting, and never looked back.  4 years later she is the owner of 3 small businesses that she operates from her home and has found more joy, more life-balance, and more time to spend with her family. If you've been feeling the pull to make a change in your life to make more room for the things that are important to you, this is an episode you won't want to miss.  Carolyn has been an inspiration to us and a joy to work and grow with.  We hope you enjoy this episode.   Resources From This Episode: Carolyn Eckman: @carolyneckman_ on Instagram Rebirth Business Consulting: https://rebirthbusiness.com FIT4MOM Santa Cruz: https://santacruz.fit4mom.com + @fit4momsantacruz on Instagram FIT4MOM Location Finder: https://fit4mom.com/locations Fun.For.Nails: https://rebrand.ly/fun-for-nails   - - - About Carolyn Eckman: Carolyn Eckman is a wife and mom of 2 living in Aptos, CA.  After becoming a mom, Carolyn realized the need to adjust her success compass and, with the support of her family, she left her 9-5 career 4 years ago.  She now finds herself in the position of supporting and bringing joy to other moms, whether that is by supporting their entrepreneurial endeavors as a business consultant with Rebirth Business Consulting, bringing them a touch of Sparkle with Fun.For.Nails, creating outdoor opportunities for exercise and community with FIT4MOM Santa Cruz, or volunteering with The Santa Cruz Babywearing Group.  When Carolyn isn't spending time with her family, dancing, or out in nature, she most enjoys creating opportunities for other mamas to feel empowered and successful in their own unique ways.   Subscribe Now: iTunes | Spotify | Stitcher | YouTube

This episode is for anyone who is struggling to find a community of like-minded women. I invited Karen Poole, founder of Heroic Mama Fitness, to join me on the podcast and share her story about how she took action to build her own community of mama friends using her past experience and knowledge. Karen has 3 years of experience working with moms and kids in an outdoor fitness environment, both as a client and as a certified instructor. She's been a certified personal trainer since 2014, and has been very involved in athletics for most of her life. She played college basketball and was formerly an Athleta Sponsored Athlete. When they moved to be closer to family, she found herself in a new town with no friends and missing the mama group fitness community, FIT4MOM; she had grown to love. After realizing the franchised group was not available in their new location, Karen shares how she used her knowledge and past experience to create a similar opportunity for local women, in turn, building a community of mama friends at the same time. Heroic Mama Fitness became the group she needed and the growing business she envisioned. Karen shares with me the ups and downs of creating a community, how to prepare and pack if you're interested in joining a similar group in your area, and where she plans on taking her business in the future. Of course, we add in all the mom-talk with a little side dish of business chat in this one.
