31st March 2025In this Satsang, Sanjay discussed Atman, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the silence within oneself to understand one's true nature, and the distinction between the formless, unchanging self and the changing aspects of life. He also highlighted the significance of solitude, the role of the mind in creating distractions, and the importance of observing one's thoughts and actions without attachment. Lastly, Sanjay concluded by stating that the divine is nothing but pure presence of the self, coming from within. These are teachings and pointers from ongoing NDA(Non-duality awareness)/Advaitic Satsangs held at Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Lecture by Swami Tyagananda on the 19th of February, 2025, at the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of Boston, MA.
Summary on Kaṇāda Kaṇāda, also known as Ulūka or Kashyapa, was an ancient Indian natural philosopher and the founder of the Vaisheshika school of Indian philosophy. He is often regarded as the earliest proponent of atomism in the world, proposing that the universe is composed of indivisible, eternal atoms (paramanu), which combine in various ways to form different substances. His ideas were recorded in the seminal text Vaiśeṣika Sūtra, which outlined a realistic and pluralistic ontology. Estimated to have lived between the 6th century BCE and 2nd century BCE, Kaṇāda's philosophy explains the creation and functioning of the universe through six fundamental categories (padarthas): dravya (substance), guna (quality), karma (motion), samanya (generality), visesha (particularity), and samavaya (inherence). These categories encompass everything that can be experienced and known. Kaṇāda's atomistic theory influenced later Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist philosophies and may have inspired thinkers in fields like medicine and physics, including scholars like Charaka. Though primarily focused on physical phenomena, Kaṇāda also integrated metaphysical ideas, such as the concept of Atman (soul) and the pursuit of moksha (liberation) through knowledge. Key Contributions: 1. Atomism: Proposed that all matter is made of indestructible atoms. 2. Nine Substances: Identified nine dravyas (substances) including earth, water, fire, air, ether (akasha), time, direction, mind, and soul. 3. Non-Theistic Approach: Suggested that natural laws, rather than a deity, govern the universe. 4. Empirical Observations: Explained natural phenomena such as fire rising upwards, magnetism, and rainfall using logical reasoning. 5. Ethical Framework: Defined dharma as that which leads to material progress and spiritual liberation. Kaṇāda's logical and analytical approach laid the groundwork for scientific inquiry in India and significantly influenced the Nyaya school of philosophy, which emphasized logic and epistemology. His ideas on atoms and matter predated similar concepts proposed by Greek philosophers like Democritus.

Was bedeutet Freiheit für dich? Text me your thoughts about this epidode ...This is the episode I've eagerly awaited since my very first episode, 'What is Vedic Astrology?' When I started The Vedic Astrology Podcast four years ago, I knew I needed to address this fundamental question, but I also realized that doing so effectively would require more than my own understanding. Today, I am thrilled to present this long-anticipated episode. I am joined by Sachin Sharma to delve deeply into the essence of Jyotish, often translated as Vedic Astrology. Sachin and I explore the unique philosophy of Jyotish, grounding our discussion in Sutra 3:14 from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. This episode addresses key differences between Jyotish and other forms of astrology, the richness and symbolism embedded in Jyotish, and the effects of colonization on its interpretation. Sachin shares profound insights into the deeper purpose of Jyotish, including its relation to the concept of Atman and its applicability to personal growth, spirituality, and practical life areas such as relationships, career, and health. Additionally, we discuss the integration of Jyotish with other related disciplines like yoga, Ayurveda, and Samkhya, highlighting that these fields form a cohesive study of life's profound truths. Learn the true potential and gift Jyotish offers, and discover how this ancient practice can serve as a psychoanalytic and therapeutic tool. Sachin's ongoing Jyotish Project aims to re-educate and bring greater clarity to this rich and intricate discipline, making it accessible for both personal and professional practices. Join us in this enlightening conversation and find out how you can engage with Sachin's work and further explore the transformative power of Jyotish. Don't miss out! "(From Jesus) Surrender to me does not mean to fret, to be upset, or to lose hope, nor does it mean offering to Me a worried prayer, asking Me to follow you and change your worry into prayer. It is against this surrender, deeply against it, to worry, to be nervous and to desire to think about the consequences of anything. It is like the confusion that children feel when they ask their mother to see to their needs, and then try to take care of those needs for themselves so that their childlike efforts get in their mother's way. Surrender means to placidly close the eyes of the soul, to turn away from thoughts of tribulation and to put yourself in My care, so that only I act; saying, "You take care of it".(Repeat the following prayer 10 times.)O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything! Today, we spend more time on the fourth kosha, Vigyanamaya Kosha. The word “Vigyana” means “knowing.” This layer is true intellect, intuition, wisdom, and higher awareness. Within this layer, one experiences union of Spirit, realizing they are a spiritual being having a human experience. We also delve into the fifth layer, the Anandamaya Kosha. “Ananda” means “bliss,” so this is our Bliss Body. Love, peace, joy, connection, and bliss are all a constant experience here, without any reason, and it's beyond just an emotion. Bliss is the experience we gain from connecting to the Atman (true self) without masks, opinions, ideas, or identities. We begin exploring another part of the subtle anatomy, known as Chakras. Chakras are energy vortexes in the subtle/energetic body, located along the sushumna nadi, starting from the base of the spine, or tail bone, all the way up through the crown of the head. The first is Muladhara, which we felt required its own episode, as the strength of the rest of the chakras rest upon this foundation.Muladhara translates as the root, whose energy flows to the rest of the chakras and sets the tone for our sense of self. Herein lies infinite potential but also fear, since all Fear is essentially about the Unknown, and the Unknown is also the Infinite Potential. A lot of our limitations are self-imposed, acquired through conditioning, so the muladhara represents the possibility of liberation when we realize we have the choice to change and evolve. Daily practices and routines, often the simple ones we mention in today's conversation, help strengthen our inner stability. Disciplines, like yoga asana, anchor us so that experiences don't lead us off path and away from our true self. A huge part of our inner work is with this chakra. Cultivating a base experience of Trust over Fear. This chakra represents the Earth element, and we hope you feel its grounding energy through this teaching. The 59th and 60th verses take us back to the original narrative of Gita, where Arjuna was facing conflicts as he did not want to do an unpleasant duty. Lord Krishna says: “If instead of practicing karma yoga, you think you can run away from your duty, that is your fantasy. Your own swabhava will compel you to do the duty.”Swabhava is our inherent nature that determines our outlook to life and our actions. It is shaped by tendencies that we gather over many life cycles. Each jiva is a solitary traveler. He meets his parents and relatives as travelers meet in a train and then separate at the end of each life.Bhagavata Purana has the story of a king who crowned his young son as the heir apparent. Unfortunately, the son died and everyone was in grief. Narada and some sages visit him to console him. brings the son back to life, but the son was not able to recognize his parents. He said that he had many parents over many life cycles. This helped the king understand the wisdom of the sages. The story of Jada Bharata explains that life is not just one chance. We are not tools in the hands of destiny. We have enough freedom to build our destiny. King Bharata retired to a hermitage for spiritual practices but developed strong attachment towards a baby deer and forgot his spiritual practices. He was born as a deer in his next life, but under the effect of his samskaras, he stayed near a hermitage. In his next life, he was born as a great saint - Jada Bharata - always established in his identity with Atman. He did not lose his spiritual wealth, but his realization was delayed. We are imprisoned by our samskaras. At the same time, we can use our mind, our five senses of perception and five senses of action to accumulate good samskaras and control our destiny.61st verse: “God is present as the divine spark in everything and everyone. Sitting within everyone as the in-dweller, he regulates and operates this world just like an engineer operates a machine.”Vedanta does not emphasize a creator God. Rather it emphasizes the idea of God as the divinity within. We can manifest this divinity through spiritual practices and by being a good human being. Buddha is a good example of this, as he did not believe in a creator God.When we do noble actions for the good of others or as an offering to God, with a sense of sanctity and sacredness, we become spiritually elevated and the divinity within us begins to manifest.Swami Vivekananda said: “Live life in such a way that Good will accept you even if you do not accept Him.” Swami Vivekananda also said: “Religion is the manifestation of divinity already in man.” Spirituality transcends religion but does not reject religion.62nd verse: “Take refuge in the ultimate divine reality for your own spiritual good.”63rd verse: “You have listened to the great spiritual truth and My instructions. Now, you do whatever you want. Act according to your own conviction and understanding.”There is no compulsion from the teacher, Lord Krishna. He encourages the student to use his own intellect and conviction.64th verse: “I have taught you this great spiritual truth because I consider you as My dear disciple.”65th verse: “If you try to follow this path and be a steadfast devotee, you will attain the highest spiritual enlightenment.”66th verse: “When you feel that all your efforts are in vain, you should very sincerely and mentally give the entire responsibility to God. Then you do not have to worry about anything.”This verse describes the concept of Prapati or Sharanagati. According to Ramanuja, Prapati is the highest state of a devotee of God. Prapati means complete surrender and is composed of the following characteristics. (1) Always having a positive outlook in life, full of sattvic qualities such as serenity, wisdom, compassion, and broad mindedness. (2) Rejecting all the opposing qualities such as skepticism and self-doubt. (3) Strong faith that God will protect me. (4) Strong faith that God is the only protector. (5) A feeling of total helplessness and dependence on God (6) Total self-surrender (atmanikshepa). When the first five characteristics are fulfilled, atmanikshepa is the result. He then becomes an instrument in the hands of God and God operates through him. When we link ourselves to a higher ideal, we can develop the ability to remain unaffected from the outcome of our actions. For example, if we did something good to others but they are still ungrateful, we will not be affected.

In this episode, Eckhart unveils more of his unique wisdom. He elaborates on knowing one's self beyond our conceptual identity. He explains we all have an image of ourselves defined by our bodies, clothes, careers, and the voice in the head which he describes as the narratives we create to interpret the world. All these things contribute to our sense of self. Eckhart says we need to look further. He explains the ancient Greeks defined the idea with the aphorism Know Thyself. Eckhart says this wisdom points to a more profound knowing and a deeper self which is beyond the personality. In Hinduism it's called the Atman. In Buddhism it's called the no-self. Eckhart says many traditions recognize this sacred aspect as part of our spiritual heritage. In knowing thyself we discover the deepest core of our being. Want more podcasts from OWN?
