In this episode, though the season of Lent is over, we are concluding our Lent series with a conversation on Easter! Our passage from My Cup Runneth Over is Matthew 28, working with the resurrection of Jesus, and other events surrounding His resurrection. Together we discuss the directives throughout Matthew 28, focusing on “do not be afraid,” “come and see,” and “go and tell.” From this, we recognize the lasting impact of our response to fear in our lives, and the daily invitation that Jesus has issued for us to continually recognize what He is doing and then subsequently going to those around us to share what we see from Him.
Joy is mentioned in 3 out of the 4 resurrection accounts. On Resurrection morning, why did the women leave the tomb with Joy and how can we increase our own joy? This Easter we look at the Road to Joy that culminated in a risen Savior and an empty tomb. Let's look at three reasons for Joy from Matthew 28:1-10.
20-04-2025- Easter Sunday- Matthew 28:1-15- Matt Johnson by RCC
“Behold the Living God”
That morning, the women who had witnessed Jesus' death and burial came to tomb. They came needing to grieve and express their love for him. They needed a tangible way to embody the deepest loss they'd ever experienced. This is their lament; it's the funeral they're holding for Jesus. They see the stone has been rolled away and an angel appears and says “Do not be afraid.” Then the angel commissions them to go preach the first Gospel sermon–go tell the disciples that Jesus is alive. Then Jesus appears. If our faith starts with a resurrection, with a dead man walking out of a grave, why would anything else be off the table for us? If our God brings life from death, is there anything that God cannot do? And if our God bears scars for us, if forever a person of the Trinity lives with holes in his hands for our redemption, is there any length to which God will not go to pursue us, to demonstrate God's love for us, to make us whole?

So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
What are you scared of? How does fear stop you from being yourself? How does fear rob you of the joy of knowing God and of your certain eternity with him? This passage and the Easter Sunday narrative is filled with fear. There is evident fear of reprisal, of the unknown, and of terror. These are all kinds of fear that restrict, limit, and do harm. However, in this narrative there is a beautiful fear of wonder. A fear mixed with joy displayed by the women that encountered the angel at the tomb. The fear of knowing that we are in the presence of Jesus Christ the majestic death defeating conqueror. Yet, this same Jesus Christ, is simultaneously merciful, gentle, loving and compassionate. He is by the side of his believers throughout their lives by the Holy Spirit which is why it can be said to them "Do not be afraid." It is this fearlessness that led these followers and can lead us to be empowered to do mighty works for God.

April 4, 2021 Easter Sunday Matthew 28:1-15 Pastor Tom Baird
This Easter, in the climate of grief over the continuing revelation of abuses against women, we are reminded by Patrick Senn of God's wisdom displayed in Jesus’ resurrection. At the resurrection God shows his love for women, and through women to everyone, by making them the heralds of his extraordinary news.: Jesus has been raised to new life. and has overcome the power of evil. Jesus' resurrection stands in history, not as a quick fix to our problems, but as the source of our lasting hope in this life and for life to come.
