Simon Says Week 6: Becoming Like a Child Date: February 15, 2026 Key Passage: John 13 In this week's sermon, we delve into the profound and transformative message of becoming like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. Pastor Chris takes us on a journey through various "unless" statements made by Jesus, highlighting the necessity of childlike faith and dependence on God. The Significance of Questions Life is filled with questions, both trivial and profound. Among the most significant is the question posed by the Philippian jailer: "What must I do to be saved?" This question, echoed throughout the sermon, points to the heart of Christian faith: belief in Jesus Christ as the pathway to salvation. Jesus' "Unless" Statements Pastor Chris explores several critical statements by Jesus that outline the conditions for entering God's kingdom: John 3:3: "Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." This emphasizes the necessity of spiritual rebirth, a transformation that only God can initiate. Matthew 5:20: "Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." This highlights the impossibility of achieving salvation through human effort alone, as true righteousness comes from God. Matthew 18:3: "Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Here, Jesus calls for a childlike transformation, a personal decision to trust and depend on God. The Upper Room Lesson In John 13, Jesus provides a powerful object lesson during the Last Supper. As He washes the disciples' feet, He demonstrates humility and service, actions that symbolize the cleansing power of His impending sacrifice. Peter's initial resistance to Jesus washing his feet is met with another "unless" statement: "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me." This interaction underscores the necessity of allowing Jesus to cleanse us, representing the broader spiritual truth that we must allow God to do what we cannot do for ourselves. Embracing Childlike Faith The sermon concludes by urging believers to embrace a childlike posture towards God. This involves: Humility: Acknowledging our limitations and need for God's intervention. Trust: Placing unwavering faith in God's promises and His ability to save. Dependence: Recognizing that our salvation and spiritual growth are reliant on God's grace. Conclusion The call to become like a child is not merely about entering the kingdom of heaven but also about thriving within it. Believers are encouraged to remain dependent on God, continually seeking His guidance and provision. In closing, Pastor Chris invites those who have yet to place their faith in Jesus to do so with childlike trust, embracing the simplicity and profundity of the Gospel message: Jesus did for us what we cannot do for ourselves. For further reflection, consider reading John 13 and meditating on the humility and love demonstrated by Jesus. Let us strive to live with the childlike faith that opens the door to God's eternal kingdom.

Pastor Chris continues our sermon series in the Gospel of Matthew, preaching from Matthew 12:22–37. In this message, he explores the powerful response to Jesus' miracles and the sharp division they caused—showing that there is no neutral ground with Christ. As Jesus confronts the Pharisees and reveals that our words and actions flow from the heart, we are challenged to examine our response and choose to follow Him in faith. This week, Pastor Chris taught us to pray by first approaching God as "Our Father," cultivating a deep, loving relationship with Him and reflecting that love toward others. We honor His holy name and seek His kingdom and will above our own, depending on Him daily for provision, strength, and spiritual victory. As recipients of His grace, we forgive from the heart and engage in spiritual warfare, living as faithful witnesses of His present and coming kingdom.

The Transfiguration comes at a pivotal point in Matthew's Gospel, and it occurs at a dramatic, shifting moment in the other two Gospels that include it. It is after the Transfiguration that Jesus “sets his face” toward Jerusalem-- a moment of pause and then change of direction. And it's a perfect moment and story to reflect on here at the beginning of Lent. Just before this event, Jesus had revealed some hard things to his disciples, including that they might die. But there was good news for the disciples because they were witnesses to a Transfiguration. They learned that there was a new reality that made everything they were to endure not only bearable but desirable: They learned that Jesus is God incarnate, the king of the universe, the pinnacle of salvation history, ready to inaugurate his kingdom. This powerful message reminds us that isolation is one of the enemy's most effective weapons against our spiritual growth. Drawing from the biblical account of Elijah—who went from calling down fire from heaven to hiding in fear after isolating himself—we're shown how even the strongest believers can become vulnerable when disconnected from community. The sermon emphasizes that we weren't designed to do life alone; connection is our spiritual armor, and community is our protection. When we isolate ourselves, we become more susceptible to lies, temptation, and discouragement because our own thoughts become the only voice we hear. But when we're connected, we find life support in one another. The message challenges us to move beyond being mere believers to becoming belongers—people who don't just attend church but actively participate in the body of Christ. We're reminded that we each have a unique function, and what's inside us is needed by someone else. Our testimonies, our struggles, and our victories aren't meant to be hidden; they're meant to be shared as hope and proof for others walking similar paths. This isn't about knowing everyone's business—it's about finding those few people we can be transparent with, our 'lifeline' who will speak truth into our lives and help us navigate difficult seasons. What does it actually look like to live out your faith in the messy reality of everyday life? In this episode, Pastor Chris Rieber dives into the heart of Colossians 3:12–17 to explore "The Way of the Chosen." Being "chosen" isn't just a theological status; it’s a daily calling that transforms how we interact with our families, our friends, and our enemies. Paul’s letter to the Colossians provides a roadmap for the Christian walk, moving beyond abstract ideals into concrete actions. Pastor Chris breaks down this passage into three essential "gaits" of the believer’s stride: Walking in Goodness: Putting on the "new self" through compassion, kindness, and humility. Walking in Tolerance: Bearing with one another and extending the same radical forgiveness we have received from Christ. Walking in Wisdom: Letting the Word of Christ dwell in us richly as we navigate a complex world with thankfulness. Whether you are feeling weary in your faith or looking for a practical "reset," this message offers a clear vision of how to clothe yourself in love—the bond of perfect unity.
After learning how to walk worthy in the previous two weeks, we now pivot to spiritual gifts and how they are distributed throughout the body of Christ (his church). In this sermon Pastor Chris goes over the 5-fold gifts given to the church- Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Shepherd, and Teacher, and how these gifts all contribute to the maturity of the body by edifying in love to one another. Give glory to God who from the Exodus all the way to the cross, has poured out his spirit and has decided to function amongst his people for the salvation of the world.

This Sunday, Pastor Chris delivered a powerful message reminding us that enduring prayer is a steadfast, watchful, and thankful pursuit that keeps God's people rooted in dependence on Him through every season of life. Scripture shows us that persistent prayer shapes our faith, resists discouragement, advances God's mission, and aligns our hearts with His will—even when answers are delayed. As we pray regularly, pray missionally, and live intentionally, enduring prayer becomes both our lifeline to God and our witness to the world.
This weeks sermon, “Perfect Unity,” reminded us that in a deeply divided world, our unity is found in Jesus alone, and Pastor Chris encouraged us to reflect His love by standing together as one.

What do you do when you want to be kinder, slower, and more loving, but real life keeps getting in the way? In this message, Pastor Chris explores why becoming the person we want to be is often harder than we expect, and how the way of Jesus and the example of Fred Rogers invite us into a different way of living. A practical and honest look at kindness, generosity, presence, and choosing love in a hurried and divided world.

This powerful message challenges us to reconsider what it truly means to live out our faith—not in isolation, but in vibrant, purposeful community. Drawing from Ephesians 2:19 and Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, we're reminded that we weren't just saved from something, but saved into something: God's family. The sermon unpacks the dangerous reality of spiritual isolation, showing how disconnection leads to stagnation, emotional vulnerability, and stunted spiritual growth. But when we embrace connection, something transformative happens—we find stability, accountability, and healing. The message emphasizes that every single person carries a divine gift meant to contribute to the growth of the entire body of Christ. We're not optional members; we're essential parts of a living, breathing spiritual organism. When one part is missing or disengaged, the whole body limps. This isn't about filling church seats—it's about discovering our God-given assignment on earth and fulfilling it with intentionality. The call isn't to become someone else or mimic another's ministry, but to embrace our unique personality infused with God's Spirit and bring that irreplaceable contribution to the world around us. Pastor Chris continues our teaching series entitled “1st Corinthians: Practical Answers to Real Problems.” In this third study of the series, “We Have the Mind of Christ,” we study in 1st Corinthians 2:1-16 as the Apostle Paul continues his address of the challenges present within the Corinthian congregation. Here, we understand the ministry of the Holy Spirit as enabling us to understand God and renew our minds for God's purposes in the world.
In week 4 of The Mission series, Pastor Chris Zauner delivers a powerful and challenging sermon titled The Church's Mission, calling the church to wake up, look up, and recognize what God is already doing all around us. Preaching from John chapter 4, Pastor Chris unpacks Jesus' words to His disciples that the fields are already white for harvest, confronting the mindset of delay, procrastination, and spiritual distraction that often keeps believers from living on mission. This message explores what it truly means to see the world through the eyes of Jesus, to feel the urgency of God's kingdom, and to understand that mission is not an optional activity of the church but the very identity of the church. Drawing from the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, this sermon challenges cultural assumptions, comfort zones, and excuses, reminding us that God often works through unexpected people and inconvenient moments to bring about eternal transformation. Pastor Chris emphasizes that the harvest is not a future event but a present reality, that discipleship should change how we see people, and that God invites every believer to take part in sowing and reaping together. This sermon is a call to action for anyone longing to live with purpose, engage their faith beyond Sundays, and join God in His mission right now. Whether you feel distracted, discouraged, or unsure where you fit, this message will encourage you to lift your eyes, step into the mission, and trust that God is already at work in your life, your community, and your generation.
This Sunday we stay in Ephesians 4 where Pastor Chris builds off of Pastor Dana's message from the previous week. The primary passage focused on in this message is Ephesians 4: 1-7; where Pastor Chris highlights the redeeming power of the Gospel brining in life and light to all the nations, therefore with that in mind we should be 'walking out' the faith in accordance with what Christ has given us through his sacrifice on the cross. We should examine all of ourselves for the signs of maturity which come flow forth forth from the body of Christ (his church.
Life often leaves us feeling spiritually lost and disconnected, like we're living in a desert. As believers, we are pilgrims on a journey toward spiritual growth, but this requires honest self-assessment of our spiritual condition. We must ask ourselves difficult questions about whether we're connected or isolated, authentic or fake, growing or stagnant. Modern culture's emphasis on instant gratification makes spiritual growth more challenging, as it requires patience and delayed rewards. Psalm 120 shows us that spiritual journeys often begin in distress, not comfort. The key is bringing our honest struggles to God in prayer, remembering His past faithfulness, and choosing to keep moving forward spiritually regardless of circumstances.
Pastor Chris preaches from Philippians 1:12-18a, where Paul entreats up that the knowledge of Christ, the perception of Christ, is more pertinent than pain or prison. Paul outlines this for us through the success of the gospel and the selflessness of the gospel.

Pastor Chris tells the story of Jesus in Mark 5, when Misery meets Mercy!
We have noticed over the years that we can throw details of current affairs at Chris Quintana and he never ducks nor flinches. And so shall it be as Mary welcomes back Chris to talk about so many things. What does it mean to be “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic?” Focusing on silly plastic lounge chairs instead of lifeboats? We will ask him about that, along with what exactly Don Lemon was thinking he would encounter when he entered that church; what the protestors think it means to use a concealed carry for running toward trouble; and why Minnesota? We ask Chris what that first amendment means to these peculiar circumstances. We also look at the church’s level of discernment when it comes to charismatic excesses as they relate to the Bethel/Shawn Bolz big tale of gullibility. Also: with another Super Bowl comes another round of “He Gets Us” adverts; and finally, the dreaded mid terms. Are there ever any real winners in any given election cycle? What are we hoping for vs what we will likely get? Count on Pastor Chris to have more than one complete thought on pretty much anything. In this episode, Pastor Chris talks about the topic of the dangers of religious pride.
Pastor Chris was back in the Chapter House with Robert Brown to talk about several passages of Scripture-- and they all had (at least in Pastor Chris' mind) some things in common. There's a verse in Psalm 112 that talks about how the wicked see how the righteous live and they are "vexed" and "gnash their teeth." What does that say about them? And what does that say about how we should live in light of Kingdom values? Join us! It was an interesting conversation. Thank you for joining us for today's message, which is continuing the sermon series from last year that focuses on the book of Colossians. Today's message looks at Paul's guidance for our relationships with God and other people. This passage starts with verse 17, which gives us the most important wisdom for relationships: "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." If you prayed to make Jesus your Lord today, we want to rejoice with you! If you would want someone to pray with you, we are eager to do so! If you would like more information about our church, we're want to share. Please text the word "NEXT" to 407-77 so we can engage with you. In this message, No Mixture, Pastor Chris shared about the importance of having a clean heart before the Lord—living with honesty, integrity, and nothing hidden. We were reminded that God searches our hearts, and that when our inner life is pure, everything else begins to flow from the right place.

What if loneliness isn't a personal failure but a signal that something sacred is missing? In this message, Pastor Chris explores why friendship may be one of the most holy and necessary gifts God gives us. Drawing from Scripture, cultural insight, and the life of Fred Rogers, this sermon invites us to rethink vulnerability, presence, and what it truly means to love one another well.
Pastor Chris preaches on Romans 12:1 - 2
We are church that doesn't just raise up disciples, but also releases them into their Kingdom assignments and destinies- for some that's released to go and for others, it's released to stay. Stepping into God's mission is not just about what God does through us, it's about what God does in us.In this message, Pastor Chris explores this important part of GCC's vision statement and how important it is for us to be released into everything God has for us.GRACE CAPITAL CITY: "Reaching, raising, and releasing disciples for the glory of the King and the coming of His Kingdom." www.gracecapitalcity.com | @gracecapitalcity Sunday Gatherings at 4pm | 2201 P St NW, Washington DC
“This is the Motion Church podcast. Thanks for joining us.” Motion Nights are about moving faith from idea to action. As shared in this gathering, “this morning, Pastor Chris really dove into what it means spiritually and biblically to live in Christ, right?” But tonight, the focus shifts to something practical. “So tonight what we want to do is we want to talk about tangibly. How do we do that at Motion?” Not just what we believe — but “how can I get plugged in where I can live in Christ here at Motion personally, right?” This conversation is about connection, growth, and next steps. As explained, “how we're going to be doing that is something called connect groups.” Because as the church grows — “our church has exploded, right? I'm sure you guys have noticed, it is exploding” — the heart remains the same: helping people live out their faith together. Wherever you're listening from, we invite you to lean in and take that next step. This is Motion Nights — Week 2.
