In un 1997 alternativo post apocalittico, la Terra è divenuta un deserto arido ed i pochi esseri umani superstiti cercano di sopperire come possono al fabbisogno di acqua potabile. In questo scenario di desolazione si muove Turbo Kid, ragazzino intelligente e dalle mille risorse, che combatte il tirannico Zeus grazie al suo guanto laser ricaricabile ed all'aiuto dell'amica Apple e del cowboy Frederick, campione di braccio di ferro. Dagli stessi autori di Summer of 84, questa pellicola è una gioia per gli occhi e per chiunque sia amante del cinema d'azione e fantascientifico anni 80. Con omaggi e rimandi al cinema di Carpenter e Miller, Turbo Kid riesce abilmente a mescolare passato e presente. Le sequenze d'azione sono mirabolanti e gli effetti speciali quasi tutti artigianali. Ottima la recitazione degli attori, con un Michael Ironside in formissima e cattvissimo nel ruolo di Zeus. Si potrebbe perfino dire che questo film è per ragazzi, se non fosse per il tasso altissimo di sangue e le numerose scene splatter realizzate divinamente, che gli conferiscono ancora più divertimento macabro ed esagerato. Un gioiellino da riscoprire, del quale spero ardentemente che facciano il sequel.
