What goes bump in the night giving Kyle a fright? For the Season 11 premier it's Martyrs (2008) directed by Pascal Laugier. This French film has a torture cult attempting to seek the afterlife through the use of pain. How did this film radicalize Kyle? Why is Mat wearing a chastity belt? Should friends let friends do revenge on their own? Slurp down that Jell-O brand tapioca pudding as the Boo Boys break it all down.

Confessional: Tales from the crypt : Demon Knight (1995)   Bon podcast tout le monde.

A Year in Horror – Worum geht's?A Year in Horror ist unser ganz persönlicher Ausflug durch 50 Jahre Horror-Geschichte. Gebt uns weiterhin gern Feedback. Set in beautiful Belgrade, Massachusetts, this visually striking reimagining of the Clive Barker original focuses on addiction, betrayal, and strips of delicious human bacon. The Pascal Laugier movie we tried to remember was Incident in a Ghostland (2018), the movie that caused permanent scarring to a young actor's face because of some combination of greed and incompetence, so fuck that movie! Warning: this episode contains audio and descriptions of violence towards women, as depicted in the film. Martyrs has been described many ways, but one word that keeps coming up is "brutal." Pascal Laugier's entry into the New French Extremity is a film few see more than once, and if you've experienced it, you know why. The story of two women who set out to discover what became of the people who captured and tortured one of them as a girl, Martyrs is unsparingly bleak, yet is packed full of ideas; its plot starts out as standard revenge fare, then takes a hideous turn halfway through. It is a film that demands to be seen, but one neither Bradford nor Eric will likely choose to revisit. Her essays, short stories, and poetry have been published in The Los Angeles Review of Books, Entropy, Hobart, Southwest Review, and elsewhere. She is currently adapting her short story Real Love—which first appeared in NY Tyrant Magazine—for the screen. She is represented by Abby Walters at CAA. In the intro David and I talk about Pascal Laugier's MARTYRS (2008). The interview with Lindsay starts at 27:42. In this conversation we get into: locating and living through the cusp of our time, the interconnection between nuance and chaos, dissolution, the unspoken rules of commodification, giving into the productivity of terror, giving yourself up to the universe, barfing into the void, celebrating the irrational, and the importance of play in the face of utility. We also talk about Bataille's philosophy around expenditure and waste as a way to explore Lindsey's outlook and work as an author. WHAT ARE YOU: Hypnotic, dreamlike, lyrical essays tell the story of a woman trapped in a destructive love affair with the universe. Her understanding of power, desire, and complicity must be transformed again and again. Addressed to an amorphous you, Lerman wrestles with the forces of birth and death, creation and destruction—going deep into the subterranean strata of consciousness and back. PRAISE: “An incantatory and hypnotic work of voice, What Are You exists at the apex of creation and destruction, desire and shame, innocence and experience, violence and tenderness, rapture and suffering, hunger and the denial of flesh. A közelmúlt egyik legfelkavaróbb alkotásával zárjuk a szezont, ezzel megmártózva a francia extrém horror borzalmaiban: ez a Martyrs, vagyis a Mártírok 2008-ból, Pascal Laugier rendezésében.
