Dlaczego w kontekście wolty fabularnej wspominamy o „hopecore”? An abandoned cargo ship, two brothers in law enforcement, blood-thirsty Dobermans, and a mysterious killer con dos conjuntos diferentes comprise this double-bill featuring a string of gruesome murders in Texas and across the Rio Grande in The Day Of The Jackal (1984), and its sequel, Massacre In Rio Grande (1988). Along with our general thoughts on both films, we take a look at the landscape of Mexican slasher cinema, the similarities to the Golden-Age American counterparts, hideous red sofas, silky mustaches, boozy mothers, body-popping strip clubs, and much, much more!
AS PORTLAND DISTRICT Attorney Walter Evans and his team ramped up their case against Louise Agee, the tone of the newspaper coverage got darker and darker. At one point The Oregonian quotes prosecutors and investigators (anonymously, of course) as saying she was not acting like an innocent person, and even comparing her with Lady Macbeth — she of the Shakespeare play. “She is regarded as a woman without imagination and to whom the finer feelings are undiscovered,” the Oregonian writes... IT WAS A little after 10 p.m. on a Friday evening in the summer of 1921. In their little house on Druid Street in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, Robert Green and his family were getting ready for bed when they heard the screams. Rushing to the front porch, they found their neighbor, Ann Louise Agee, in her nightclothes, wild-eyed and disheveled. “Help! Come quick! They're killing Harry!” she screamed. Dread Media returns! And it's back with a look at the Witchboard movies! *wait for applause to die down* Desmond and Tom look at the remake: Witchboard. They also talk a lot about the original. Then, Des goes solo on the rest of the films in the series: Witchboard, Witchboard 2: The Devil's Doorway, Witchboard III: The Possession, and Witchtrap, which is not part of the series, but it's pretty close and probably a better movie than all the others. Songs included: "Spirits" by King Diamond, "Ouija Board Lies" by L7, "Kill in the Spirit World" by Black Sabbath, and "Us vs Them" by Sick of it All. Someone's killing the beautiful young majorettes at the local high school. Could it be Harry, the voyeuristic janitor? Tommy, the nerdy photographer for the high school yearbook? Mace Jackson, the sleazy local drug pusher? Jeff Holloway, the star quarterback for the high school football team? Or could the identity of the killer be just one of the many incredibly shocking twists you'll discover as you watch The Majorettes? Along with our general thoughts, we dissect this slasher/action mashup (from page to screen) from director Bill Hinzman, looking at its origins dating all the way back to its 1979 novelization from John Russo, its sordid release history at some point between 1986 and 1988, and much, much more!
Enjoy! In eighteenth and nineteenth century England, two phantom stalkers terrorized the public and captured the collective imagination to the point of violence. In this gripping episode, a chilling tale of a real serial killer—or is he?—unfolds, exposing how imagery, deception, and psychological manipulation can mask deadly intent. Summer horror gets bloody, claustrophobic, cursed, and undead in this episode of This Week in Horror History, covering the week of July 6 through July 12. This time, we're digging into splatter-film history, cursed-camera video games, one of the scariest cave movies ever made, Netflix's summer-camp slasher revival, Italian zombie cult madness, and the return of the Tall Man. Inside this episode:July 6, 1963 — Blood Feast reportedly plays Peoria, IllinoisHerschell Gordon Lewis changes horror forever with a cheap, outrageous, blood-soaked shocker often credited as a key turning point in splatter cinema and grindhouse gore. July 8, 2022 — MADiSON releasesA haunted-house horror game turns an instant camera into a cursed object, making every photo feel like an invitation for the nightmare to come closer.July 8, 2005 — The Descent opens theatrically in the UK and IrelandNeil Marshall sends a group of friends into an unmapped cave system where grief, betrayal, darkness, and something much worse are waiting below.July 9, 2021 — Fear Street Part Two: 1978 releases on NetflixThe Fear Street trilogy heads to Camp Nightwing for a brutal summer-camp slasher packed with cursed-town mythology, teen terror, and R.L. Stine nostalgia with real bite.Deep-Cut Spotlight — Burial GroundAndrea Bianchi's Italian zombie cult favorite unleashes ancient Etruscan dead, a cursed country estate, crumbling corpses, and some of the strangest undead chaos of the early 1980s.Horror Birthdays This Week:Shelley Duvall, Kevin Bacon, Anjelica Huston, and Fred Gwynne all enter the birthday roll, bringing connections to The Shining, Friday the 13th, Tremors, The Witches, The Addams Family, The Munsters, and Pet Sematary. Weekly Recommendation — Phantasm IIAngus Scrimm's Tall Man returns in a bigger, weirder, more action-heavy sequel filled with silver spheres, funeral-home dread, road-trip nightmare energy, and late-80s cult horror atmosphere.Plus, Weekly Spooky heads into the woods with “Branch Manager” by Gary D up in Ontario, Canada — aka Blue Fire Raging — where exhausted telemarketers escape into Algonquin Park only to discover that the forest is listening, moving, and hungry. From Blood Feast and MADiSON to The Descent, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, Burial Ground, and Phantasm II, this week in horror history proves that summer horror can trap you underground, curse your camera, resurrect the dead, send you to camp, and still leave room for one more silver sphere flying down the hallway.

Drawn into his deranged world, Lisa's innocent game of phone tag becomes deadly serious, and the stakes are people's lives! Along with our general thoughts, we dissect this psycho-thriller/home invasion/From Hell/slasher mashup from director Gary Sherman, looking at its origins dating all the way back to 1981, its failed cinematic release in 1990, and how it became a smash hit on VHS and cable channels.
This week we have a look at the 1981 Slasher film JUST BEFORE DAWN. This is Episode 488! The film follows a group of hikers who travel into a mountainous region of Oregon to visit property inherited by one of them, only to be hunted by a ruthless backwoods killer. PLUS, once more we are joined by very special guest JOHN LOGAN-- John has been nominated for the Oscar three times and has received Golden Globe, BAFTA, WGA and Edgar awards. His film work includes Skyfall, Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo, Rango, Sweeney Todd, They/Them, The Last Samurai, and Any Given Sunday. Danielle Breton (Margot Kidder) is a beautiful young model, the kind of girl you meet only in your dreams. But this dream turns into a nightmare when young reporter Grace Collier (Jennifer Salt) witnesses a brutal murder in Danielle's apartment. Danielle has a secret: she lives half a life, and the other half is lived by her formerly-conjoined, murderous sister Dominique. One sister is lovely, gentle, and kind - the other is quite mad, and you never know which one you're holding in your arms. We're joined by author, director (1991's Guilty As Charged and 2001's Elvira's Haunted Hills, among others), and screenwriter Sam Irvin for a look at the 1972 psycho-thriller, Sisters, with Sam's treasured memories of working with director Brian De Palma on The Fury (1978), Home Movies (1979), and Dressed To Kill (1980) acting as a retrospective backdrop on the famed director. This 90+ minute special episode bypasses our usual shtick (no Joke Of The Week or Recently Seen) for a candid interview (we'll return to our regular format on the next episode), with fascinating insights into the wide world of Brian De Palma, our general thoughts on Sisters, and more.
