Ryan Miller, the winningest American goaltender ever and the newest addition to the San Jose Sharks goaltending staff, joins the podcast this week! But before we get to Miller (39:57), Sheng and Keegan discuss all the recent moves and cuts from the Sharks roster, as well as the players who have surprised during training camp.Oskar Lindblom, Jacob Peterson, and Ryan Carpenter were put on waivers, and we discuss how this sets the table for the opening night lineup (1:20).We discuss how this means that Thomas Bordeleau (seemingly) is making the team with Couture being injured, and what that means for his development (2:00).We talk the futures of Carpenter (4:15), Lindblom (8:32), and Peterson (9:46).We recap who is left for the Sharks forwards on opening night (14:55) before heading into the defense (19:40) and predict who the Sharks keep to start the season (23:35). We talk about Thrun's future if he starts on the Barracuda instead of the Sharks, and why this might be the case to start the year. (24:30)Sheng and Keegan discuss a few players that have surprised this training camp: Granlund (30:50), Hoffman (32:35), Zadina (33:20), Bordeleau (34:50), Emberson (35:46), and Blackwood/Kahkonen (36:52). And now the Miller interview (39:57)!Ryan Miller talks about his childhood, growing up for a few years, playing hockey, in Santa Clara (40:30) and how this actually began his journey as a goaltender. Ryan talks about how his dad was his coach and didn't want him to play goalie originally (41:45), but Ryan convinced him that goalie was the right decision. Ryan also talks about how he and his brother were actually some of the early petitioners for getting an NHL team in San Jose (42:38), heading door-to-door with pamphlets in the Bay Area.Ryan talks about his playing time with Buffalo, his time with Mike Grier as a player (43:25), as well as the rebuilding years in Buffalo when he first came into the league, and how it's similar to what's happening in San Jose (44:25). We ask Ryan who he thinks is the best American goaltender not named Ryan Miller (48:22)? Ryan talks about what is interesting about goalie development and what drew him to the job (49:35). Ryan talks about why he joined the Sharks specifically, and Grier's influence on that (52:25). We ask Ryan what he thinks Grier meant when he called Ryan 'analytical' regarding the goaltending position (54:25). What does Ryan think are the undervalued and overvalued aspects of scouting goaltending? (56:27)What would Ryan's style be if he were playing in today's NHL? (57:40)Finally, we ask Ryan what his scope regarding his scouting and development is going to be (1:00:05) and any impressions from training camp (1:00:58). Lastly Ryan talks about the Steadfast Foundation (1:01:30) (more info at steadfastfoundation.org), an organization dedicated to providing recreational opportunities for children with disabilities in Buffalo. Locked On Nationals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Nationals
Jake Irvin in his 2nd big league start SHOVED once again for the Washington Nationals, beating the San Francisco Giants by a score of 5-1. Irvin went 6 1/3rd with 4 hits, and looked like a season pro. Ryan breaks down the game, which also had some questionable decision making by 3B coach Gary DiSarcina. But most importantly, Jake Irvin is proving to us that he belongs in the rotation, and he=is stuff plays in the big leagues. Ryan then turns the attention to the defense, as this Nats team on paper is just a much better product on paper, particularly the defense. What has been the biggest difference so far in the infield? Dominic Smith, your time has come... Lastly Ryan previews Patrick Corbin on the mound, and talks about what he needs to see from the lefty to get a win tonight for the good guys. This week ATBpod.com welcomes the owner of The Parlor Barbershop, Ryan Augon. On this episode Ryan talks to Thaddeus about how he got started being a barber, the challenges and patients it took to open up his own barber shop at his home, and how influential his wife was in starting his business. They also talk about, the family respect and relationship that he and his employees have for each other, how he handles any unhappy clients, and the aloha and welcoming vibe he has at the Parlor. Lastly Ryan talks about his experience getting a head and neck tattoo and how it is being a father to his daughters
We did not have a lot of games yesterday so we combined those games with the past weekend. The guys had a good long weekend, Ryan's fighting Irish killed it so he's happy as ever. The guys recap the whole weekend, give out who was the team of the weekend and players that really caught their eye. Plus the guys rant about the Angels and their struggles. They go into how they are struggling, saying how overrated Joe Madden is, and what they need to get back on track. Lastly Ryan gets his Cubs rant in and it's as great as ever. We have our Prop Off here on a great Tuesday. Ryan locked in a prop at 8am this morning and is firing on all cylinders. A three day well rested Ryan is Vegas worst nightmare so make sure to tail. Cody rattles off his props and has a huge one in the Cubs game this afternoon. Both guys do come together to say that they do not like a lot of first 5 bets. They don't love the board on it so maybe just enjoy some baseball on that side. Enjoy the props and enjoy the show. To finish off the show, the guys look at the board for the series that are in play this week. Cody likes the run line of the Rays against the Cardinals because hey that's the best value. Never forget, all you gotta do is find the value when betting. In this segment, Ryan and Cody do something they never ever do in their lives. They are betting blind and the only team they would ever bet blind on, is the New York Yankees. The Yanks are hot and unbeatable and that is why these bettors are betting them blind. Join the dudes for another adventure! The guys talk about the week and other events. Next is the over the line segment where the dudes talk about some situations that are over the line. Lastly Ryan digs into some news.
We are back from camping and sore from playing hardcore competitive badminton, which gave us the million dollar idea of making EA Street Badminton Edition. We are making time to watch Shrek retold, a terrible homemade remake of Shrek the movie. Martin says it would be easy to eat a baconator in 40 seconds but then backs out of doing it. Ryan wants to be weekend at Bernie'd after hes dead and gives martin full ownership of his corpse. Lastly Ryan takes a hard stance on animal rape.
We open with the shooting of Jacob Blake and the pain that we feel due to these attacks. Moving on to a lighter note, Darnell Mayberry Senior Bulls writer for The Athletic Chicago joins us to discuss the Bulls new front office, Jim Boylen and Deni Avdija. Lastly Ryan and I go Cubs versus Sox with a sprinkle of NBA Playoff chatter.
Ryan and I have a great time talking about some games from one of our favorite publishers, Kids Table Board Games. Ryan revisits some of their early games then we jump in on the most recently released ones. First is Haunt The House by Helaina and Josh Cappel. Next Ryan covers Wreck Raiders. Lastly Ryan talks about their latest, Bugs on Rugs.
Dan will have to go out on the street and and embarrass himself because you guys commented and said you wanted it. Next Ryan talks about a Rush concert he went to when he was younger. He was kicked out for smoking weed and meet a strange man out front. Ryan describes the events that transpire. Then we get to the best part of the show when Dan and Ryan watch porn from Porn hub and try to describe them the best they can. This gets very gross so be warned. Lastly Ryan gets his devils advocate skills tested by trying to tell you the best parts of horrible things and the bad parts of good stuff.
Crystal is on the show today and we have a competition. We want to find out who knows more about sports Dan or Crystal. Ryan created a quiz with Baseball, Football, Hockey and Basketball questions and we find out who knows more about sports. Dan gets the first question and it is "how many points is a touchdown worth". Dan changes his answer multiple times but eventually gets the right answer of 6. Dan knowing very little about sports pulls ahead by a few points going into the second round. The second round involves guessing sports team names. Crystal is able to tie the game up and the score goes back and forth. The final question is worth 2 points and Dan is down by one point. For the win the question is in hockey where are the coyotes from. Dan's answers " Florida" which is incorrect. Crystal answers "Arizona" and wind the game. Dan is beaten by a girl in a sports quiz. Ryan smokes some weed and Crystal leaves. Then Dan and Ryan discussed what is happening on patreon. Donations have been deleted and then reappearing and they are confused. After Ryan talks about the comment from a fan noobking. The comment is about how he hooked up with is cousin and they were dry humping and he came in his pants. Lastly Ryan is upset about people deleting comments that are interesting. One comment was a questions that takes up the rest of the show. "If you were sleeping and you woke up and a guy was sucking your dick but it's the best blow job of your life". Dan's would be upset and get mad. Ryan on the other hand would pretend it's a girl and pretend to stay asleep. Crystal comes back on and calls bull shit on Dan. The rest of the show is spent convincing Dan he would enjoy a blow job from a guy through a glory hole.
