In the last couple of years, the casual dining industry has decided the goal was to get you in and out as fast as possible. Or better yet, they're skipping the “in” part entirely. Third-party delivery. Curbside pickup. Drive-thrus of the future. And after 70 years, a few ownership changes, and a pandemic that forced the entire industry off-premise, Shakey's Pizza Parlor is doing something genuinely countercultural: They're inviting people back in.This episode is supported by Wunderkind Ads.

It wasn't just any piece of rock. Portable may be the world's most famous boulder. Parlor trick, mascot, right of passage -- call it what you want, but this toaster-size piece of granite nestled in the lush forest of Squamish is a beloved fixture of the Canadian climbing scene. Then it went missing. When Portable turned up in the California desert, professional climber Ethan Salvo knew he had to get Portable home. He just didn't know what he'd be up against. The band is its own block party. What began in 2014 as a jam session between three of the city's best - drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James - has since blossomed into a global force that features percussionist Iván Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. Together, the group's live performances have garnered them much acclaim and millions of streams on YouTube. In 2017, True Loves recorded their debut instrumental LP, Famous Last Words, which received worldwide adulation, earning them performances at coveted music festivals. Randy Wood is an American master luthier, instrument builder, and music entrepreneur known for his influence on the modern vintage-instrument industry and the bluegrass and roots music community. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Wood has built and repaired instruments for many of the biggest names in country, rock, and bluegrass while also operating one of the South's most respected acoustic music venues.Randy Wood grew up in a musical and woodworking family. His father was a carpenter and woodworker, and music was a common part of family life, with relatives frequently playing and singing together. Those two influences—woodworking and music—would shape Wood's lifelong career as a luthier. By the 1960s, Wood had begun developing his craft of instrument repair and building, quickly gaining a reputation for meticulous work and a deep understanding of acoustic instruments. In the early 1970s, Wood moved to Nashville and became a founding partner in GTR, Inc., a pioneering vintage instrument shop located behind the Ryman Auditorium. The business was started with fellow musicians and dealers Tut Taylor and George Gruhn, and it later evolved into the famous Gruhn Guitars. Because of its proximity to the Grand Ole Opry and Nashville recording studios, the shop quickly became a gathering place for musicians needing repairs, vintage instruments, or simply a place to pick. During this period, Wood built and repaired instruments for legendary performers including Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards. Wood later partnered with Taylor to open the original Old Time Pickin' Parlor, a combination music store, repair shop, and performance space that became a hub for bluegrass musicians and fans in the early 1970s. In 1979, Wood sold the Nashville business and returned to coastal Georgia. For many years he operated a small workshop and mail-order business while building custom instruments. Over time he produced more than 1,500 handmade instruments, including guitars, mandolins, banjos, dobroes, and violins, many of which are used by professional musicians around the world. In 1999, Wood established Randy Wood Guitars, a guitar shop, repair center, and instrument workshop near Savannah. He also built a small concert venue called Randy's Old-Time Pickin' Parlor, an intimate hall known for hosting world-class acoustic performers in bluegrass, country, and Americana music. The venue has become a regional destination for roots music fans and regularly features nationally recognized artists in an intimate setting.Randy Wood is widely regarded as a pioneer of the modern vintage instrument business and one of the most respected repairmen and builders in acoustic music. His influence extends beyond instrument making; through his shops and the Pickin' Parlor, he helped create gathering places where musicians could meet, jam, and share traditions that shaped American roots music. Newly released emails from Ghislaine Maxwell appear to confirm the authenticity of the infamous photograph showing Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor with his arm around Virginia Giuffre — a photo long disputed by both Maxwell and Andrew. In a 2015 draft statement sent to Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell wrote that in 2001 she was in London when Giuffre met several of her friends, including Andrew, and that a picture was taken “as I imagine she wanted to show it to friends and family,” effectively acknowledging the image was real and that she had introduced them. Maxwell's email also stated Andrew visited her home, although she continued in the correspondence to claim she had no knowledge of “anything improper” occurring between Giuffre and Andrew. The release of these messages comes as part of a massive tranche of documents tied to Epstein that the U.S. Department of Justice disclosed recently. The emails contradict longstanding denials by both Maxwell and Andrew about the meeting and undercut Andrew's past arguments that the photo might have been doctored. Giuffre, who died by suicide in 2025, had maintained the photograph supported her allegations that she was trafficked and abused; her family has described the new emails as vindicating her claims. Andrew settled a civil lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022 without admitting liability and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. Buckingham Palace declined to comment, and UK police have so far not launched a full criminal investigation based on these revelations.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:That photo of Andrew with his arm around Virginia Giuffre IS REAL and I introduced them, admits Ghislaine Maxwell in damning emails that blow Pizza Express alibi apart | Daily Mail Online

The Ouija board started as a simple parlor game in 1890 — but paranormal researchers warn it might open doorways to something far more sinister. And if a spirit starts spelling out the name Zozo, you may have just made contact with one of the most dangerous entities on the other side.IN THIS EPISODE: Some believe the Ouija board is a harmless game – others feel it is a paranormal, evil portal to allow entry into our world of ghosts, dead relatives, and even demonic entities. How dangerous is the Ouija Board? (Ouija Board Dangers) *** On April 12th, 1961 the first man to ever make it into space was a Russian cosmonaut by the name of Yuri Gagarin. He is considered a hero to his country, and an inspiration worldwide to those who are fascinated by space travel. But what few do not know is that there is a theory that there was someone before Yuri Gagarin – and the story has been kept a secret. To send 2025 off into the great abyss, we have a sensational year-end Basic Folk roundtable featuring Lizzie's group chat: Kaïa Kater, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, and Isa Burke. It can feel so challenging to know which media you can trust and whose takes you can really take to the bank. There is no one we trust more to wrap-up this wild and wacky year than these gals. We turned to them at the end of 2025 to hear their hot takes, what they're grateful for, what they've learned, and what four poppin' folk musicians were up to in this crazy year in the industry. We also share a couple of Basic Folk clips from 2025! Our most-listened to episode featured Ani DiFranco and Carsie Blanton onboard Cayamo, so of course we wanted to share a portion of their conversation about periods. Lizzie tees up a clip from her favorite episode featuring Cindy's meet-cute moment with Morgan Toney. Morgan spoke of how he started to get more familiar with his Indigenous musical heritage and shares incredible insights about how to connect with your cultural heritage as a marginalized artist.Lizzie & Cindy then get into what each has been up to this year, together and separately. They especially reflect on their trip to Alaska with Parlor in the Round, the pod's new baby, Lizzie's Yallidarity Social Club podcast, and the latest on their dogs – including one emergency surgery to remove a six month old corn cob.
