University of Toronto economist Joseph Steinberg joins The Hub to examine whether Donald Trump's tariffs can actually boost American manufacturing or if they might have the opposite effect. Steinberg presents his research showing that although tariffs could lead to some long-term reindustrialization, the benefits would be concentrated in low-tech "toy" manufacturing sectors, while higher-value manufacturing like automobiles and heavy machinery would actually shrink. Every year, Lloyd's List publishes a list of the world's Top 100 container ports. And to mark the release of this year's ranking, we're taking a deep dive in this week's episode to understand the key trends seen across the container sector last year, and work out what the rest of the year has in store. In a year defined by disruption, the world's leading container ports still managed to increase their throughput by 8% - a sharp turnaround from some of the sluggish growth we've become accustomed to in recent years. The geopolitical upheaval shipping has had to deal with in the last 18 months has clearly created some winners, as well as some losers that continue to suffer at the hands of Red Sea rerouting and tariff wars. To download the Lloyd's List Top 100 Ports report, visit www.lloydslist.com/one-hundred-container-ports-2025, where you can see the full list of rankings as well access the data behind it, including regional and country-level analysis. Joining Joshua on this week's podcast are: Linton Nightingale, deputy editor, Lloyd's List Eleanor Hadland, senior ports and terminals analyst, Drewry

2025 MLB Trade Deadline has come and past, and play-by-play broadcaster Michael Marcantonini is here to discuss this year's trade deadline winners and losers on the Jack Vita Show! The San Diego Padres once again made the most noise on deadline day, as president of baseball operations AJ Preller made a flurry of aggressive moves, most notably dealing the no. 3 prospect in baseball (and three pitching prospects) to the Athletics in exchange for closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears. The Padres also acquired catcher Freddy Fermin, outfielder Ramon Laureano, starting pitcher Nestore Cortes, and first baseman/designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn. Michael and Jack share why they believe the Padres won the deadline, and Jack makes a bold proclamation that the Friars will win the National League West over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs were strangely quiet at this year's deadline. Will their passiveness come back to bite them? The Cubs missed an opportunity to upgrade their pitching staff, just days after the Milwaukee Brewers passed them for the NL Central division lead. Jack assesses the Cubs' approach at the deadline, as they enter into the final crunch of the regular season. Elsewhere, the Houston Astros brought home Carlos Correa, while the Seattle Mariners added a pair of big bats from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the form of Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez. The Philadelphia Phillies added star closer Jhoan Duran, as the Minnesota Twins blew up their team. Michael and Jack discuss and break down it all! Michael is the play-by-play voice of the Aberdeen IronBirds, the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. He also broadcasts Division I athletics.
