Greetings, Leaders! Rejoice! Again, I say rejoice. Today can be the best day of our lives. "Only believe!" It has been said, "To the one who believes, all things are possible." Think and envision the impact of a family, company, community, and nation if just two or more agreed on anything they ask and do. What would the multiplication effect be if many came together? - "Stronger Together! The Power in Unity of Vision." Someone said, "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have." Seek one with whom you can agree about a shared vision for the impact your lives make. Then seek to join others who are like-minded. I love being in IBM for such as time as this. Why? It's The people! Culture is a game changer! The benefits of Unity of Vision are the ability to do more, go longer, and have a more significant impact worldwide. "I came to see, in my time at IBM, that culture isn't one aspect of the game - it is the game. In the end, the organization is nothing more than the collective capacity of its people to create value." Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Timing is everything in business and life. The exciting thing is you are here for such a time as this. The vision: "The latter glory will be greater than the former glory." One morning, after Mr. Gerstner took the CEO position, he left his house to go to work. A car and driver were waiting for him. "I went to sit down and realized there was somebody sitting in the other seat," Gerstner said in an interview at IBM headquarters. There, in the seat, was Tom Watson Jr. In an odd, almost cosmic coincidence, Gerstner lived next door. Imagine the odds of them being neighbors! "He asked if he could please ride to work with me," Gerstner said. "I was sitting there thinking, 'This is really a special moment.'" Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. THOMAS WATSON, SR. AND THE MAKING OF IBM - THE MAVERICK AND HIS MACHINE. KEVIN MANEY Regardless of position or status in life, everyone needs encouragement. Great leaders like you; understand the value and the power of unity of vision. I recall a great leader from ancient times named Nehemiah, who rallied a group to accomplish incredible outcomes because of an inspired vision. His leadership impacts the culture! In fifty-two days, a group of committed believers in the unity of vision completed rebuilding a protective wall around a city that had languished for over one hundred years. How was this possible in the face of criticism, doubt, fear, and fatigue?A clean heart, a clear conscience, and a confident mind. "So we built the wall, and the whole wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work." Nehemiah Be the one who is the catalyst to creating an environment like this wherever you are in the world! "Great things in business are never done by one person. They're done by a team of people." Steve Jobs My friend, that is who we are and what we will achieve. Believe. Victory!
You probably wouldn't expect the President and CEO of an artificial intelligence and machine learning company to say that focusing on technology alone does not guarantee the success of the business. But it is the case for Gary L. Melling of Acquired Insights. In this episode of Leaders of Consulting, Gary emphasizes that as much as businesses would want to focus on technology, they should also understand how such technology will be useful to their people. He also shares the backstory of how he began to focus on the people side of organizational change management, and how he adds a personal touch in interacting with colleagues. Moreover, he discusses the role of Continuity Risk Assessment in identifying the factors that can threaten a business and its continuity. How do you create a movement and why does that matter so much when you’re trying to ignite change? Today’s world is more fluid and interconnected than ever before, and having a business is no longer a one-way communication with your customer or just a transaction. In order to thrive, you need to be creating cascades. Greg Satell is just the person to share more about movements, cascades, and how that ties in with driving change. Greg Satell is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, and innovation advisor who regularly contributes to publications such as the Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Inc., and Fast Company. In his previous interview, we discussed his book Mapping Innovation, and today, he joins me to talk about his latest book, Cascades: How to Create a Movement that Drives Transformational Change. In businesses today, there is a shift from hierarchies to networks, and that makes it so important to focus on movements and creating cascades. Greg shares some real-life examples of cascades that have happened, as well as how to survive victory — why failure happens so often after a huge success and how to overcome it. We also dive into how values turn into actions and investments, as well as the science and practice of creating (and controlling) cascades and movements. Greetings, Summit Leaders. What joy awaits those who find themselves being a part of something new! Can you recall a time when you experienced something new that just filled you with awe, excitement, and wonder? The best days of our lives are the ones we take time to notice, reflect and enjoy the new things that are occurring before us and around us. I understand in my heart; "I am doing something new. Now it springs forth. Do you not see it and will you not be part of it?" Last week, I met a great new group of IBM Summit Leaders at the Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Center for Learning in Armonk, NY. Their orientation occurred on the first day of spring! I could not help marveling at the timing of the new thing that is blossoming in IBM and all the people who are a part of the emergence of something higher than ever.
