For centuries theologians, clergy and laity within the Abrahamic traditions have made great attempts to define where the concepts of love and justice fall within their faiths. Many Christians are quick to acknowledge that Christianity is indeed a religion founded on the principle of love, but look upon the Hebrew scriptures as being little more than a set of moral codes provided by a deity who is more concerned with the performance of ritual and appeasement. A similar view is held by many about Islam. But in Kelly Clark's new book 'Raging Fire of Love' he takes a deep dive into the sacred scriptures of these religions to offer evidence that all of them hold as their high priority the understanding that the God of Judaism, Christianity and Islam is a loving God; and that adherents to those religions are expected to replicate that love to our "neighbors" (read: everyone) in daily life.
Just a complete mess, and it was a 2-parter! We managed to come up with a rewrite using the raw data but it took forever.

College is supposed to be a safe place for students. This was no different in 1929 at the Ohio State University Campus. Theora K Hix, a 25-year-old student at the University was found dead at a local Rifle Range. Did you know that how you love "yourself" is how you love others? What if we only love parts of ourselves and are at war with the parts we do not like? Today we will think and talk about how self-love when used as our guiding light can lead us to "true" love of self and new ways to balance the way we feel inside to live within a peaceful mind. When we think of Hippies the 1st things that pop into many minds are drugs, music, hedonism, promiscuity, political activism & a disdain for hard work. These stereotypes are grounded in truth, but not the whole truth. There was also a deep spiritual search going on, sometimes in concert with the aforementioned proclivities. This 2017 conversation in 2 parts with author Dan Goldberg examines these various elements that made 1967 a year for the books.
For our Valentine’s Day Special episode of Travels Through Time, we visit Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, to talk to Dr Sophie Ratcliffe about Anna Karenina, Kate Field, Sofia Tolstoy and the year 1876. ~ Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina is one of the dazzling achievements of nineteenth century literature. It is a story of power, ambition, fidelity and lust, ‘a warning against the myth and cult of love’, with the ill-starred relationship between the Russian socialites Anna and Count Vronsky at its centre. In this episode of Travels Through Time, Sophie Ratcliffe shows how Anna was very much a child of the 1870s. Various historical figures can be found in her character. A well-known inspiration is Anna Stepanovna Pirogova, a jealous lover who threw herself under a freight train. A lesser-known one is the American journalist, lecturer and early telephone pioneer Kate Field. Field was hugely charismatic and popular. The Chicago Tribune judged her ‘perhaps the most unique woman the present century has produced.’ She was among the first celebrity journalists. She was acquainted with Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Anthony Trollope, and George Eliot. For a time in the 1870s, she was employed as the first public relations manager for Alexander Graham Bell’s new invention, the telephone. Here Ratcliffe explains how Field’s legacy stretched further still. As she explains in her new book, The Lost Properties of Love: ‘Parts of Kate Field live on in Anna Karenina. Anna Karenina is part Kate Field. That’s what writers do. They change lives.’ In this conversation, Ratcliffe guides us back to 1876 and to a historical past suspended between fact and fiction. She describes how trains were viewed as an invasive new technology; how time operates in intriguing ways in Tolstoy’s fiction, and she speculates about what was hidden in Anna’s red handbag as she stepped off the railway platform. Dr Sophie Ratcliffe's The Lost Properties of Love is published by William Collins. It's Monday, Punky Peeps, and you know what that means. That's right a new episode of Punky Power is ready for your listening pleasure on ITunes and SoundCloud. I'm bringing you not one but two episodes today Punky Brewster S1E15 and E16 Henry Falls In Love Parts 1 and 2. In the Part 1 love is in the air for Henry when old high school sweetheart Maggie returns and they rekindle their long ago romance. Henry plans to finish what he started over 40 years ago when he attempted to propose to Maggie when they were 18 but before he can get the words out Pearl Harbor is attacked and Henry is called into action, causing him and Maggie to eventually lose touch. In this episode we see funny antics of Punky recreating Henry and Maggie's magical night from 40 years ago Luigi's Italian Restaurant complete with Italian Costumes, Waitress Sophina (Punky, Luigi Cook (Cherie complete with mustache and chef's hat) and Zoltan (Allen) a gypsy violinist and Punky Pizza which basically consists of a toasted English Muffin bologna, ketchup, cheese, pickles, olives, and bubble gum (that looks more like a grape or a cough drop lozenge). I know, gross, right? In Part 2 Punky runs away after hearing of Maggie's plans to send her to a boarding school in Switzerland so she and Henry can travel the world after they are wed. Punky meets runaway teen Zach who tells her she should go home because she has a family that loves her. In the end we learn that home isn't where the heart is, home is where Henry is. Aww.
