(This podcast was previously published on January 7, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Jesus warned us about the last days when false ministers and false Christians would come in HIS name deceiving many:   Matthew 24    3 And as HE sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?   4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.   5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.   (Ministers and individuals in churches will come saying "Jesus is Lord" and because they say that, many will accept them and they will deceive "many".)   Paul calls them "angels of light":   II Corinthians 11   2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.   3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.   4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.   12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.   13  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.   14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.   15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.   The apostle Peter says:   2 Peter 2   1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.   2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.   3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.   12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;   13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.   14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.   15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.   ***   Paul warns us that it will be even worse in the last days:   II Timothy 3   1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.   5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.   (They explain away the scriptures and will not allow certain scriptures to rule over their own lives.)   13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.   ***   Jesus says:   Matthew 24   12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.   13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.   ***   II Timothy 3   14  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;   (That we have learned spiritual things from God.)   15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.   16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:   17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.   ***   The apostle Paul says:   II Corinthians 2:17  For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.   We see by this that many were deceitful in their presentations of the Word of God in the days of the apostle Paul.   And Paul said it would get worse in the last times before Jesus returns.   II Timothy 3:13   But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.   And Jesus said:   Matthew 24:4-5   Take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.   We have been amply warned in the Bible to beware of both ministers and individuals who come to us saying "Jesus is Lord" for there will be many deceivers in the last days.  They usually show themselves rather quickly by that which they say and by that which they do.  Pay attention.

This weekend, President Trump raged over a video from Democrats that warned against carrying out “illegal orders.” That led him to get his Defense Secretary to launch an investigation of one of those Democrats, Senator and former Navy captain Mark Kelly. But things kept spiraling downward for Trump when a judge tossed out his corrupt prosecutions of James Comey and Letitia James. The ruling—that his appointment of a stooge U.S. Attorney was illegal—shows that his slapdash targeting of enemies is what backfired. In all these stories, Trump is corruptly weaponizing the system to get revenge on enemies for corrupt purposes, and it's running aground for him. We talked to David Kurtz, who covers legal issues for Talking Points Memo's excellent Morning Memo newsletter. The New York Knicks have not been firing on all cylinders early in the season as they adjust to new head coach Mike Brown.  The Knicks are shooting a lot more 3 pointers than they did last season but there does not appear any reason to panic in New York.  Bruce feels that Jordan Clarkson's impact will eventually be felt as he competes for the 6th man of the year award. 14:10 .... The Orlando Magic have also been shaky out of the gate with their first four games all on the road.  Desmond Bane came over from Memphis to shoot 3 pointers but so far has shot mostly blanks.  Bruce feels their defense and rebounding will carry them to greater success and Bane will eventually remember how to make threes.  Ross is very concerned about the free throw shooting by the Magic which is only around 75% right now 19:10 ... The Oklahoma City Thunder have started the season 7-0 and our guys predict when their first loss may take place.  Bruce and Ross see it coming in a day or two while World B feels they'll remain undefeated into next week. 21:44 ... The Portland Trailblazers have responded well to new coach Tiago Splitter who replaced Chauncey Billups when the gambling scandal sidelined him.  Jrue Holiday, Jerami Grant, and Donovan Clingan have all excelled in the early going.  World B credits their aggressive defense and insane hustle as huge factors in their success.  Once Scoot Henderson returns from his injury, their defense should improve even more. 27:11 ... Trae Young of the Hawks will miss at least a month with an MCL injury.  His shooting has been terrible but maybe the mental break due to injury might help him to reset things when he returns.  World B has some stats supporting the Hawks' offensive improvement with Young sidelined.  Ross points out that with no other point guards on the roster, Atlanta will have to run their offense in a non-traditional way. 30:39 ... Treason, Spies, and Political Violence: The Revolution as a Raging Civil War Author: Patrick O'Donnell Book Title: The Indispensables: The Diverse Soldier Mariners Who Shaped the Country, Formed the Navy, and Rowed Washington across the Delaware The Revolutionary War was characterized as a "raging civil war" where loyalists and patriots lived together, leading to intense political violence. Individuals were targeted based on perceived loyalties, a form of "cancel culture." Dr. Nathaniel Bond, a virus specialist, faced death threats and had his house surrounded by a mob after he treated wounded British soldiers following Lexington and Concord, simply following his Hippocratic oath. He was eventually exonerated after demanding a court martial. Internal betrayal was severe, exemplified by Dr. Benjamin Church, a medical doctor and influential leader who appeared to be an ardent patriot. Church, who was deep in debt, was actually General Gage's greatest spy. He sat on all major Massachusetts provincial committees, funneling crucial Patriot intelligence to Gage, informing the British general exactly where munitions were stored. Church communicated in cipher code and was known as a charming gambler and ladies' man who even faked his own involvement in battle by sprinkling blood on his stockings.

President Donald Trump's losses in court are suddenly piling up on many crucial fronts at once. Most of his tariffs were just ruled illegal, prompting him to explode in fury. An appeals court blocked Trump's use of the Alien Enemies Act for deportations. And a judge invalidated Trump's cancellation of grants to Harvard. There's a big through line here that deserves attention: Judges are taking a very hard line on Trump's use of pretexts to justify his illegal actions, on many of the issues where his abuses of power are most flagrant. But what happens when all this collides with the highest court in the land? We talked to Michigan University law professor Leah Litman, author of Lawless: How the Supreme Court Runs on Conservative Grievance, Fringe Theories, and Bad Vibes.
