On this episode of Success is Subjective, Joanna brings you another story from our special former participant series where she extends the opportunity for former participants to share their journey with others. Today's former participant is Kelly Wu. Kelly shares how as a raging teen with pent up emotion, her outward circumstances and outcomes began to reflect her inner turmoil. Her first attempt at treatment was unsuccessful due to the fact that she was still an adolescent who was being forced, without deciding she wanted it for herself, nor having the cognitive processing and brain development necessary to understand that it was good for her. Taking 10 years to obtain only a few credits at a 2-year community college, Kelly finally realized sobriety was something she wanted and was willing to work for. Today, Kelly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the chief operating officer at PCH Treatment and also works as an individual therapist. NOTE: The podcasts in this series can include sensitive subjects such as suicide, self-harm, substance abuse, hospitalizations, psychotic episodes, and other traumatic experiences which include parts of the treatment journey. Scott and Jessica unpack the rapidly escalating war between Israel and Iran under Trump's leadership. As civilian casualties rise and Trump teeters on the edge of deeper U.S. involvement, millions of Americans take to the streets in the historic “No Kings” protests—pushing back against what many see as his authoritarian power grab. Meanwhile, the NYC mayoral race is turning into a defining battle for the soul of the Democratic Party, with progressive rising star Zohran Mamdani facing off against political heavyweight Andrew Cuomo in a generational showdown that could reshape the party's direction. In this lively episode of Considering Catholicism, Greg and Ed the Protestant tackle a listener's critique that the show is too harsh on Protestants, sparking a candid discussion over tacos. They reflect on their tone, owning occasional snark while defending the need to draw distinctions between Catholic and Protestant beliefs, as truth claims—like sacraments or authority—demand clarity. Drawing from C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity, they explore why you can't linger in the “hallway” of generic Christianity forever; at some point, you must choose a room. Greg apologizes for any uncharitable jabs but reaffirms the podcast's mission: to invite listeners to consider crossing the Tiber into the Catholic Church. Ed shares his journey, stuck in the hallway due to personal circumstances, yet driven to seek truth. Join them for a mix of humor, humility, and honest reflection on navigating Christian differences. Strange things have been happening to science in the US. An executive order is freezing research, a website with once scientific information now looks kinda like it's advertising a reality show … even milkshakes have been caught in the fray. Milkshakes! On top of this, research projects studying everything from vaccine hesitancy to Covid-19 to climate change have been cut. The Trump administration says that a big reason for the cuts is to stop government waste and boost the economy. Today on the show: What is going on with science in the US right now, and will these cuts ultimately help the economy? History tells us that civilizations and societies boom, bust and rise anew to repeat the pattern -- a pattern that demographer Neil Howe says is surprisingly predictable in both its timing and trajectory.Howe refers to these "seasons" of societal change as "turnings", and has famously has declared America is now well into a Fourth Turning, the "bust" part of its cycle -- where the status quo falls apart -- often chaotically -- and is replaced by a brand new order.Well, in its first 100 days, the Trump administration has certainly made big -- and some would day disruptive or even chaotic -- strides in its attempt to replace the previous status quo with a new playbook, both domestically and internationally. Is this the kind of textbook Fourth Turning upheaval that Howe expected? To find out, as well as what further transformation he expects ahead, we'll ask the man himself.WORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? Scott and Jessica break down the chaos surrounding Trump's economic and immigration agendas. First, they dive into Trump's trade war U-turn: after rattling global markets, he's hit pause on his “reciprocal” tariff strategy—everywhere but China. They unpack what this 90-day freeze actually means and whether there's any real strategy behind the whiplash. Next, they turn to Congress, where Trump's legislative priorities are moving forward—but not without serious drama. With deep Medicaid cuts, clean energy rollbacks, and massive tax extensions on the table, are Republicans undermining their own voters just to make the numbers work? And finally, the administration's deportation crackdown takes a disturbing turn—adding undocumented immigrants to a federal "death" list and triggering a legal showdown with El Salvador.
