The sermon explores the profound comfort and assurance found in Christ, emphasizing his role as counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Drawing from 1 John 3 and Isaiah 9, it argues against relying on human counsel or psychology, instead urging listeners to cultivate an intimate relationship with Christ as their refuge and source of strength. The message highlights the believer's confident hope for eternity, promising purification and righteousness through faith, and ultimately, a glorious reunion with Christ where they will rule and reign with him, experiencing his power and love magnified beyond measure.
The sermon explores the profound implications of being a Christian, emphasizing that salvation immediately transforms believers into saints, destined for a glorious future mirroring Christ's likeness. Drawing from 1 John 3:2 and Isaiah 9:6, the message highlights the promise of seeing God's wonderfulness and receiving His counsel, ultimately culminating in a resurrected body free from earthly limitations and united with Christ in heaven. The speaker encourages listeners to cultivate a deep relationship with Christ, trusting Him as their ultimate counselor rather than relying on external sources, and to actively share the gospel, fulfilling their mandate to be conformed to Christ's image.

The sermon explores the profound implications of being a child of God, emphasizing faith, hope, and love as intertwined aspects of salvation. Drawing from 1 John 3, the message highlights God's unparalleled love bestowed upon believers, contrasting it with the fleeting nature of worldly affections and underscoring the promise of future glory when believers will be like Christ. How does she respond to this temptation? What does this response show us not only about her, but about high-control American Christianity? How does it illustrate the ways in which high-control religion invariably masks exercises of power and authority as “love”? Check out this week's episode to find out. But what, exactly, does she think the Bible is, and how does she believe we should read it? She gives us an important insight into this when she claims that everything in the Bible is what Jesus taught. But what can that possibly mean? And how does it relate to her promotion of a homophobic reading of the Bible? And what problems and ethical issues arise if we understand the Bible in these terms? And finally, does the Bible really advance the homophobic teachings Stuckey says it does? Check our this week's episode as Dan dives into these issues. Throughout her chapter, she asserts that marriage equality marks a departure from “biblical” or “traditional” marriage, from a model of marriage that has decisively shaped the Christian West from the time of Jesus and before, and that it should therefore be resisted at all costs. As Dan argues in this episode, the problem with this view is that it simply isn't true. There has never been a clear, unequivocal “biblical” view on marriage, and understandings of marriage within the Christian tradition have evolved and changed from the time of Christ right up to the present day. Listen in to hear more about this, and why this matters for confronting the anti-LGBTQ+ agenda of Stuckey and those on the religious and cultural right. The sermon emphasizes the vital importance of mutual encouragement and edification within the Christian community, drawing from Hebrews 3:13 and 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to advocate for daily exhortation, prayer, and kindness as pathways to spiritual growth. Rooted in the Greek language, the message highlights the interconnectedness of comfort and exhortation, urging believers to build one another up through doctrine and service rather than self-esteem, and to extend grace and love even to those who are difficult. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, emphasizing repentance and faith as the foundation for salvation and a life illuminated by God's Word.
The sermon centers on the critical importance of love and forgiveness within the Christian community, asserting that persistent complaining, gossiping, and finding fault with others stem from a fundamental lack of love rather than legitimate concerns. Drawing from 1 John, it emphasizes that harboring hatred blinds individuals to truth and hinders spiritual growth, while confessing sins and forsaking those feelings allows for cleansing and restoration. Ultimately, the message calls for reciprocal love, daily exhortation, and a commitment to acting in accordance with God's word, rather than being enslaved by selfish desires and hardened through deceitfulness.
The sermon emphasizes the paramount importance of love as the defining characteristic of Christian discipleship, drawing from 1 John 2:7-11 and echoing Jesus's commandment to love one another as He loved. It frames love not as a feeling but as a deliberate choice, contrasting genuine love—which illuminates and prevents stumbling—with hateful attitudes that lead to darkness and spiritual blindness. The message connects this commandment to foundational biblical themes like the Golden Rule, the royal law, and the fulfillment of the law, ultimately portraying love as the distinguishing mark of Christians and a vital element in evangelization, surpassing even familial bonds through the sacrifice of Christ.

Send us a textIn this deeply reflective episode, Barb Desmarais is joined once again by our good friend, Tim Wade, for an honest and heartfelt conversation about one of life's most difficult challenges: letting go of people when a relationship has run its course. Whether it's a friend, a partner, or even a family member, parting ways can feel like a kind of death—but it can also be the most loving choice you make, not just for them, but for yourself.Tim opens up about his personal experience with releasing relationships that no longer serve growth, connection, or mutual respect. Together, he and Barb explore how letting go, while painful, is often a supreme act of love—one that honours the truth of where things stand rather than clinging to what used to be.The conversation also weaves in relationship expert Matthew Hussey's powerful insight that letting go can be viewed through the lens of addiction. Like any craving, the urge to stay can mask the reality that the relationship is no longer good for you—or for them. Recognizing this pattern can help break the cycle and lead to healing.Get in touch with Tim at https://timwadecoaching.com/Find Barb on Instagram @barbjanet .If you like our show, make sure you follow us on your favourite Podcast player.
