I have spent quite a bit of time on this case because I wanted to answer this one simple question, was the torch slayer a serial killer? The basic definition of a Serial Killer is someone who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behavior pattern. Because of how things were handled, you probably never heard of the Torch Slayer, and if you had, you only knew of his one victim. But today, we are taking a deep dive into this crazy story. This story first took place in February of 1928. A woman named Margaret Brown is getting ready to start a new chapter of her life. Little does she know, it's the final chapter. This episode comes from the book Celebrated Criminal Cases of America and is in the public domain. It was written by Thomas Duke. The cool thing about this series is that this book is widely thought of as one of the first true crime storybooks to be published in the US. Now, here is the fun part… for me, at least. I am going to do what I can to research these cases. They range from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s, and I will see what I can find. Did these cases happen as they are told? What was left out of the story? I am eager to find out! Check out our blogpost at truecrime.blog where you can compare the evidence I found against the story as it was written. It's almost October and we are starting our ghostly stories a little early this year! In this episode, we are telling the bizarre story of Ella Myers. One that does involve a bit of mystery and folklore. I want to personally thank the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum for filling in the many blanks in this story. After I found the original news articles on this story, they were void of much information. The Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum were able to fill in those blanks for me. They did a live reading of this story on Facebook, and it was very well done. If you get the chance, check them out at www.pawneebillranch.org/ and their Facebook page at Facebook.com/pawneebillranch (all one word). They have many events coming up, including a Ghost Stories Candlelight tour in October. They also recreate the Original Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show every year. If you have heard this story before, I will warn you that you have not heard it this way. This is the story of Ella Myers and the Guthrie Ghost with Blood Red Hands. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/okieinvestigations/message
In this episode, we are returning to the great state of Oklahoma and to a case that took place just miles from where I live but happened a little over 82 years ago. Her Husband Roger Cunningham believes she left him, other suspect something more sinister is going on. But before we get started, please subscribe to the podcast if you have not done so already. This entire production is done entirely by myself. This includes research, writing, recording, editing, graphics, social media, and promotion. So this one act can help us out quite a bit. Hello everyone and welcome back to Okie Investigations. I am very happy to say that after a short few months, we are back on the air and will be better than ever. We now have our own studio and research office. I hope you all have been well over the last few months. I want to thank all of you who have reached out wondering what's been going on. I'm not the best at replying to those sorts of things but I want you all to know that we're ok, just been going through a lot of changes here, which resulted in the show's upgrade. Today we are telling the story of the Buried Bodies Case - Part 1 - The Robert Garrow Story. In this episode, we are focusing on the victims in the case. Just a few formatting changes. We are no longer going to load the show with advertisements. We kept these to as few as we could and Anchor has been great with helping us earn enough to pay the overhead of the costs of running this show and the truecrime.blog website. But, we have some ideas on how to cover those costs down the road, so I thought it would be cool to reward you all with ad-free shows. If you do hear an advertiser or commercial in this broadcast, it didn't come from us, it probably came from the platform that you are listening from or our platform forced them on. But enough of that. If you want to know more about what's going on with the show you can find us on facebook facebook.com/okieinvestigations and on our website truecrime.blog. This episode contains sensitive topics such as rape, murder, and abduction which may be a trigger for some listeners. We continue to discuss the True Crimes depicted in the book “Celebrated Criminal Cases of America” by Thomas Duke. This will not replace our regular show, it will be released as bonus episodes along with the main show. With that said, Celebrated Criminal Cases of America is a book in the public domain and is widely thought upon as one of the first true crime storybooks to be published in the US. Now, here is the fun part… for me at least. I am going to do what I can to research these cases. They range from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s and I will see what I can find. Did these cases happen as they are told? What was left out of the story? I am eager to find out! For more information on this story, check out our website truecrime.blog First, the story.
