Ephesians 6:19-2019 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.Revelation 2:1-7“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2 “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6 Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.” (Revelation 2:4–5 NLT) One way to keep your Christian faith vibrant and impactful is to maintain and nurture your first love—that is, the passion and excitement for Christ’s work that you felt when you first began your relationship with Him. I once knew a guy who was always in the best shape. I would run into him a couple of times a year, and he always made a point of reminding me that he was in much better shape than I was. He would tell me, “Feel my arm!” “That’s hard,” I would comment. “That’s right!” he would say. But he was a stressed-out and very intense kind of guy. One day, I received the sad news that he had died of a heart attack. This guy had it all together on the outside. He was in great shape. But inside, his heart was in trouble. You may have the greatest physique—bulging biceps and rippling abs. You may have incredible stamina and energy. But what good is all of that if you have heart disease? This story serves as a warning not only about our physical health but also about our spiritual health. You might be able to flex your spiritual muscles in front of other people. You might say, “Look at my schedule! Look at all that I’m doing for God. Look at what I’ve done. Listen to my accomplishments.” That’s good as far as it goes. But it falls short of revealing the whole picture. When Jesus told the believers at Ephesus that they had left their first love, He was getting to the heart of the matter, the root of success or failure in the Christian life. He was saying, “You are leaving this first love. You are neglecting these basic things.” The Ephesians, like many Christians, were emphasizing things other than the essentials of the faith. They were bogging themselves down with human expectations. That’s when the Christian life becomes drudgery. That’s when you start saying, “There are so many rules. There are so many restrictions. I want to live as I please. I want to be free.” When you begin to think like that, you’re leaving your first love—and the joy and fulfillment that come with it. Jesus said of His followers, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT). A rich and satisfying life is one that is marked by joyful and humble service, a spirit of gratitude, a hunger for God’s Word, and a passion for the gospel. Jesus died to make such a life possible for those who believe in Him. That’s our first love. That’s what we must never lose. Reflection question: How do you maintain and nurture your first love? The Bible talks of returning to our first love. Today, pastor Ray Bentley explains what that is. First, love is the love of God. His love is burning. His love is consuming. His love is overflowing. His love is penetrating. His love is dynamic. His love is alive. His love cannot leave whatever it touches. The same as it was. That's the love of God.

Jason Logan traded a firefighter's uniform for a Hells Angels vest — but the price of brotherhood went far deeper than he ever imagined. Growing up in California, Jason was obsessed with motorcycles and adrenaline. He spent 12 years as a California firefighter, often battling wildfires side-by-side with prison inmates. But after burning out physically and mentally, he left the fire service in search of belonging, brotherhood, and purpose. That search led him into one of the world's most infamous outlaw motorcycle clubs — the Hells Angels. Inside the club, Jason lived a life most people only hear rumors about. In this episode, he reveals what it's really like inside the Hells Angels, breaks down the politics, rules, and hierarchy of club life, opens up about the mental health struggles members quietly face, explains how rivalries with other motorcycle clubs actually work, and shares the moment he knew he had to walk away. #HellsAngels #BikerLife #OutlawBiker #MotorcycleClub #TrueCrimePodcast #FormerBiker #MCCulture #RedemptionStory Thank you to BLUECHEW for sponsoring this episode: Visit https://bluechew.com/ and use promo code LOCKEDIN at checkout to get your first month of BlueChew & pay five bucks for shipping. Reflecting on the end of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Ben Watts gives a powerful sermon over one of our themes for the year: return to your first love. Pastor Ben speaks on asking God for an outpouring of the same passion, joy, and dedication we once lived in when we first became believers, or when we had a specific encounter with God. But when life gets difficult, it becomes harder and harder to remember these moments. We need to return to our first love, the Creator of the universe!
Baya Voce opens up about the hidden cost of living in a world that promises everything without friction while our relationships demand the exact opposite. She shares the counterintuitive truth that bending over backwards in relationships isn't love, it's self-abandonment, and explains why most couples fail not because they fight, but because they never learned to repair properly. Through raw personal stories and research-backed frameworks, Baya breaks down the difference between accepting someone's limitations and enabling their dysfunction. Join us in this episode to talk about when we first fell in love with Jesus. We all have gotten so busy with God's business that we forget to spend time with Jesus. Maybe our busy lives take us away or the chaos of this world distracts us. Jesus invites us back to fall in love with Him again. Be amazed by nature that He created, be thankful for the small things in our lives that He does for us everyday. Remember the amazing things He has done for us in the past. The love we have with Jesus is our greatest love, and when He gave us His Spirit, He gave us the gift of always having this first love. Our church exists because of this first love!
Thank you for listening to our Surge Church Podcast. In Revelation 2, Jesus rebuked the Church of Ephesus by calling them the "Loveless Church." He said - "you have left your first love." Although Jesus commended them for their good works, He called them to repentance for doing works out of Christian habit and duty with no love or zeal. How easy it is for the Christian life to become habitual and dutiful, while lacking a love and fervor for God. Let us return to our first love!

We all have times of apathy, boredom, and a general cooling off of our once fiery zeal. Elder Athanasios draws out valuable lessons from Christ's words in Revelation to help us regain our zeal and our love for Christ.A reading from Lesson 10 (Rev. 2:4-7) on Revelation by Elder Athanasios MitilinaiosElder Athanasios Mitilinaios, a dynamic and beloved preacher, abbot of the Monastery of Komnineiou and Saint John the Theologian in Stomion, Larisa, Greece, gave 104 consecutive lessons of Revelation to thousands of faithful. This beloved elder, venerated by many in Greece and around the world, reposed in the Lord in the year 2006.The Lord said, "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent." -Revelation 2:4-5

A reminder for us soulpreneurs:You have to do stuff you don't naturally love… until you have enough money to do only what you love.Building a business as a solopreneur involves a huge variety of tasks and projects, most of which you wouldn't naturally have thought – “This was what I was looking forward to doing, day to day, with an authentic business!”The stronger your passion and vision for what should be your ideal work, the stronger you'll feel the gap. The destination seems so far from where you are now.The sane solution? You'll have to practice loving what you “have to” do now, to make money, so you can – one day in future – make money doing only what you love. This is a public episode. No matter where the church may be found throughout history and around the world, the foundation remains the same – it is Jesus Christ! God created us male and female, each with unique roles that reflect His image and purpose in marriage. While culture has tried to blur and complicate gender, Scripture makes clear that both man and woman are distinct yet equal, designed to complement one another. The principle of first love shows us that marriages thrive when husbands sacrificially love their wives, modeling the love of Christ for the Church. In this message, Pastor Jimmy Witcher reminds us that when we embrace God's design for gender and marriage, our relationships reflect the very love and unity of the Godhead.

GG Hawkins sits down with Carmen Emmi (director, writer) and Erik Vogt-Nilsen (editor) of Plainclothes, a striking debut feature that blends the aching vulnerability of first love with the sharp tension of queer identity under surveillance. Set in 1997 and laced with nostalgic Hi8 footage, the film isn't just a period piece — it's a raw, intimate time capsule of self-discovery, repression, and resilience. This episode dives deep into the emotional and creative process behind the film, from Sundance dreams to strawberry farm editing sessions and how true collaboration can unlock something extraordinary. In this episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins and guests discuss… The genesis and central themes of Plainclothes, including first love/obsession, policing emotions, identity, nostalgia, and honesty in queer storytelling Why the 1990s setting — especially 1997 — was chosen, both for personal reasons and as a tool for emotional resonance How Carmen and Erik came together creatively, even though Erik joined after principal photography, and how they structured their collaboration (the “Editing Intentions” document, visits, tone setting, etc.) The editorial process: charting out passes, refining scenes, balancing structure vs. emotional truth, and maintaining rawness from the editor's cut through to the final version Test screenings: what kinds of feedback matter, figuring out clarity vs. ambiguity in the narrative, audience confusion around timelines, and how those screenings shaped the final cut On‑set dynamics: director's approaches, setting tone (no yelling unless dire), using music on set, capturing wordless moments, incubating trust and structure among cast and crew Filmmaking tools & creative choices: use of Hi8 footage to express internal states like anxiety; letting instinct and experimentation guide sequences; integrating personal memory and sensory detail into the cinematic style Advice for emerging filmmakers: avoid perfectionism, work with collaborators or friends you trust, give ideas a chance in editing, accept that not everything needs to be precious, learn from every project Memorable Quotes: “It was really, every creative decision I made was like, it was all stemmed from like, what does it feel like to police your feelings?” “One rule. And that was no yelling on set unless like someone's life was in danger…” “We had a lot of love for the story … there was so much levity and play in the edit room … even though we were dealing with very serious kind of themes…” “Give every idea a try … you don't have to spend too much time on it, if it's not working. But … that yes and‑kind of mentality … unlocks stuff you would never think of.” Guests: Carmen Emmi Erik Vogt-Nilsen Resources: Plainclothes Official Trailer I Really Love My Husband Screenings Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web: No Film School Facebook: No Film School on Facebook Twitter: No Film School on Twitter YouTube: No Film School on YouTube Instagram: No Film School on Instagram
