Reflecting on the end of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Ben Watts gives a powerful sermon over one of our themes for the year: return to your first love. Pastor Ben speaks on asking God for an outpouring of the same passion, joy, and dedication we once lived in when we first became believers, or when we had a specific encounter with God. But when life gets difficult, it becomes harder and harder to remember these moments. We need to return to our first love, the Creator of the universe!
Baya Voce opens up about the hidden cost of living in a world that promises everything without friction while our relationships demand the exact opposite. She shares the counterintuitive truth that bending over backwards in relationships isn't love, it's self-abandonment, and explains why most couples fail not because they fight, but because they never learned to repair properly. Through raw personal stories and research-backed frameworks, Baya breaks down the difference between accepting someone's limitations and enabling their dysfunction. This conversation will shift how you think about conflict forever, giving you practical tools to turn your messiest relationship moments into opportunities for genuine intimacy and growth.Sign up for Baya's newsletterFollow Baya on InstagramIn this episode you will:Discover why your nervous system needs friction to build resilience and how avoiding small conflicts actually creates bigger ones laterTransform your relationship arguments using the repair framework that stops the blame cycle before it spiralsLearn the critical difference between change and effort in partnerships and why confusing them keeps you stuck in resentmentBreak free from the cultural myth that bending over backwards equals love and start setting boundaries without guiltMaster the art of staying present during emotional reactions instead of running away or people-pleasing your way through conflictFor more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1839For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960More SOG episodes we think you'll love:Baya Voce pt. 1 – greatness.lnk.to/1836SCMatthew Hussey – greatness.lnk.to/1782SCLiz Gilbert – greatness.lnk.to/1681SC Get more from Lewis! In the book of Revelation, Jesus encouraged the church in Efesus to return to their first love. A lot of o people have made the assumption that doing so means striving to love God more, but the truth is that the first love always comes from the Father. We can only love Him, because He first loved us. Our part is to receive His self-giving love with an open heart. In other words, returning to our first love means to constantly be receiving the love of the Father with an open heart. Join us in this episode to talk about when we first fell in love with Jesus. We all have gotten so busy with God's business that we forget to spend time with Jesus. Maybe our busy lives take us away or the chaos of this world distracts us. Jesus invites us back to fall in love with Him again. Be amazed by nature that He created, be thankful for the small things in our lives that He does for us everyday. Remember the amazing things He has done for us in the past. The love we have with Jesus is our greatest love, and when He gave us His Spirit, He gave us the gift of always having this first love. Our church exists because of this first love!
Thank you for listening to our Surge Church Podcast. In Revelation 2, Jesus rebuked the Church of Ephesus by calling them the "Loveless Church." He said - "you have left your first love." Although Jesus commended them for their good works, He called them to repentance for doing works out of Christian habit and duty with no love or zeal. How easy it is for the Christian life to become habitual and dutiful, while lacking a love and fervor for God. Let us return to our first love!

We all have times of apathy, boredom, and a general cooling off of our once fiery zeal. Elder Athanasios draws out valuable lessons from Christ's words in Revelation to help us regain our zeal and our love for Christ.A reading from Lesson 10 (Rev. 2:4-7) on Revelation by Elder Athanasios MitilinaiosElder Athanasios Mitilinaios, a dynamic and beloved preacher, abbot of the Monastery of Komnineiou and Saint John the Theologian in Stomion, Larisa, Greece, gave 104 consecutive lessons of Revelation to thousands of faithful. This beloved elder, venerated by many in Greece and around the world, reposed in the Lord in the year 2006.The Lord said, "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent." -Revelation 2:4-5

It's a danger to allow 'Church-tianity' to take us away from True Christianity; distractions to draw us from our first love for Jesus. 3 things we need to do if we have wandered away, or risk losing the lampstand – Remember, Repent and Return!

A reminder for us soulpreneurs:You have to do stuff you don't naturally love… until you have enough money to do only what you love.Building a business as a solopreneur involves a huge variety of tasks and projects, most of which you wouldn't naturally have thought – “This was what I was looking forward to doing, day to day, with an authentic business!”The stronger your passion and vision for what should be your ideal work, the stronger you'll feel the gap. The destination seems so far from where you are now.The sane solution? You'll have to practice loving what you “have to” do now, to make money, so you can – one day in future – make money doing only what you love. This is a public episode. No matter where the church may be found throughout history and around the world, the foundation remains the same – it is Jesus Christ! The early church was known by their love, that first love of being near to Christ that poured out through them onto a waiting world. How are we doing with that […] The post First Love appeared first on Rockpointe Community Church.
God created us male and female, each with unique roles that reflect His image and purpose in marriage. While culture has tried to blur and complicate gender, Scripture makes clear that both man and woman are distinct yet equal, designed to complement one another. The principle of first love shows us that marriages thrive when husbands sacrificially love their wives, modeling the love of Christ for the Church. In this message, Pastor Jimmy Witcher reminds us that when we embrace God's design for gender and marriage, our relationships reflect the very love and unity of the Godhead.
In Revelation 2:1–7, Jesus commends the church at Ephesus for their perseverance and endurance but confronts them for drifting from their first love. This message invites us to examine our own hearts, repent of empty religion, and return to a real relationship with Jesus — allowing His mercy and forgiveness to reignite our love for Him and for others. True mission and lasting fruit flow only from the overflow of first love.

They say you never forget your first love. And maybe that's true - not because it was perfect, but because it carried an intensity that later relationships rarely match. Years later, a song, a name, or a face in a crowd can bring the memory back, fresh and overwhelming. In this episode, we talk about first crushes, awkward kisses, and secret teenage romances. Some stories are sweet, others bittersweet, but all of them remind us how powerful those early feelings can be - and how they stay with us, even when everything else has moved on.Listen in for reflections on:Why first love often feels more vivid than later relationshipsHow memory reshapes our earliest experiences of desire and disappointmentThe sweet, sometimes innocent intensity of loving for the very first time
In this first message of our new Revelation series, Pastor Jason lays the foundation for understanding this powerful book of the Bible. He unpacks the context and dives into the very first letter to the church in Ephesus where Jesus warns that they have lost their first love. It is a timely reminder for us all: we can be busy doing good works, but if our love for Christ is not at the center, we have missed the heart of it all. GG Hawkins sits down with Carmen Emmi (director, writer) and Erik Vogt-Nilsen (editor) of Plainclothes, a striking debut feature that blends the aching vulnerability of first love with the sharp tension of queer identity under surveillance. Set in 1997 and laced with nostalgic Hi8 footage, the film isn't just a period piece — it's a raw, intimate time capsule of self-discovery, repression, and resilience. This episode dives deep into the emotional and creative process behind the film, from Sundance dreams to strawberry farm editing sessions and how true collaboration can unlock something extraordinary. In this episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins and guests discuss… The genesis and central themes of Plainclothes, including first love/obsession, policing emotions, identity, nostalgia, and honesty in queer storytelling Why the 1990s setting — especially 1997 — was chosen, both for personal reasons and as a tool for emotional resonance How Carmen and Erik came together creatively, even though Erik joined after principal photography, and how they structured their collaboration (the “Editing Intentions” document, visits, tone setting, etc.) The editorial process: charting out passes, refining scenes, balancing structure vs. emotional truth, and maintaining rawness from the editor's cut through to the final version Test screenings: what kinds of feedback matter, figuring out clarity vs. ambiguity in the narrative, audience confusion around timelines, and how those screenings shaped the final cut On‑set dynamics: director's approaches, setting tone (no yelling unless dire), using music on set, capturing wordless moments, incubating trust and structure among cast and crew Filmmaking tools & creative choices: use of Hi8 footage to express internal states like anxiety; letting instinct and experimentation guide sequences; integrating personal memory and sensory detail into the cinematic style Advice for emerging filmmakers: avoid perfectionism, work with collaborators or friends you trust, give ideas a chance in editing, accept that not everything needs to be precious, learn from every project Memorable Quotes: “It was really, every creative decision I made was like, it was all stemmed from like, what does it feel like to police your feelings?” “One rule. And that was no yelling on set unless like someone's life was in danger…” “We had a lot of love for the story … there was so much levity and play in the edit room … even though we were dealing with very serious kind of themes…” “Give every idea a try … you don't have to spend too much time on it, if it's not working. But … that yes and‑kind of mentality … unlocks stuff you would never think of.” Guests: Carmen Emmi Erik Vogt-Nilsen Resources: Plainclothes Official Trailer I Really Love My Husband Screenings Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web: No Film School Facebook: No Film School on Facebook Twitter: No Film School on Twitter YouTube: No Film School on YouTube Instagram: No Film School on Instagram
