One Last Mile is a fictional story of a talented but slightly arrogant high school track athlete named Eric who was certain he would be snagging a scholarship spot at any University he chose. He routinely won races but didn't always take his coaches directives seriously.mIn his senior year everything changed after an accident that left Eric with a broken ankle, and haunting images of his friend Buzzy's death. Buzzy was intellectually handicapped and Eric felt responsible for his death even though Buzzy was not supposed to have followed him into that abandoned home. Overcome with guilt, Eric left his home town of Brevard after his graduation to stay with his uncle for the summer. The summer turned into 2 years, and Eric didn't make any effort to keep in touch with his best friend Mary, or any of his other friends and running team mates. Although he was told that he may not run again after the accident, his doctor ended up clearing Eric for running, but told him to take things slow and didn't think that high level running would be possible again. Eric finally went back home to Brevard but realized that he had a lot of work to do to get his friends back, as well as any potential for a scholarship. Christopher Engels Bio: Chris was born in Mission Viejo California in 1977 and grew up in Orange County spending time in Mission Viejo, Irvine, Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar before moving to Covina, CA in 1987. He spent his remaining childhood in Covina where he graduated high school from Charter Oak High before departing to Washington State University to attend college. After college, Chris lived and worked in Bend, OR where he started his first business in general contracting and then pursued his Juris Doctorate in Law at Northwestern California School of Law. After graduating law school, Chris returned to where his heart and roots lie, in Orange County, currently resides in Newport Beach and operates The Law Office of Christopher Engels in Costa Mesa. Chris is a conservative Republican that thinks like an independent, finding solutions, not talking points. His approach to governing isn’t much different then running a business or working with people to solve problems. Our government expects us to work hard, pay our bills, pay our taxes, save money and succeed in life, why shouldn’t we expect the same out of our government? The answer is that we should expect the same and that is what Chris expects. We must give and take when dealing with opposing parties, it is not a one-way street, something Washington has forgotten. The party in the majority should get more of what they want, while giving up somethings they don’t want to the minority, that is called compromise. The County and Nation must start accepting hard truths, and then we must act to stop things from getting worse. Current politicians are afraid to tackle tough issues in fear they will lose votes, but Chris is different, he’s not afraid to tackle tough issues, because the people need him to, and he will. The focus of governing will be by the people, for the people, with a bipartisan approach, middle ground solutions, and effective legislation. We must #GovernTogether, so please join Chris in making Orange County the example of proper and just political leadership. With his extensive business background, legal mind, middle ground approach and connection with people, Chris is the perfect person to lead Orange County into the future. Chris is down to earth, a man that grew up in a family that had to work for everything they had from a place of humble beginnings. Orange county faces many problems, problems that need serious solutions and not just political grandstanding. Chris will bring power back to the people and will fight for what is right, just and fair under the law. Join Chris in this effort to restore and keep Orange County the most beautiful place in the world to live in. Growing up in Mission Viejo California, Ford listened to mix of R&B (Rufus and Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, the Commodores, Anita Baker, Sarah Vaughn, Smokey Robinson, Al Green) pop (Olivia Newton- John, Cyndi Lauper, Tom Tom Club, Thompson Twins) and rock (Boston, the Police, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac). He also managed to find time for Manhattan Transfer. Ford’s fondness for words and melodies and singing paved the way to a young Ford participating in dinner theater revues while still in college. A short stint with Jon St. James’ production company (responsible for pop-dance hits by Stacy Q and others) in the mid-’80s provided Ford with the necessary tools to take a giant step forward. By the late-’80s, Ford had signed a production deal with the company co-owned by hit-making songwriter Denise Rich. In the early-’90s, Ford was confirmed to be the featured male vocalist on Frankie Knuckles’ second studio album, 1995’s “Welcome to the Real World.” In the end, conflicts at the label (Virgin Records) prevented this from happening, and female singer Adeva became the album’s featured singer. Virgin then offered Ford a solo album deal. Unfortunately, this album never saw the light of day. For full bio and to listen to Colton's music, please CLICK HERE
