Send us a textWhat if your media diet shaped your mood, ethics, and generosity more than you think? We close the year by reexamining entertainment—what we watch, why we watch it, and how it quietly rewires our days. With a 16-day sabbatical as a backdrop, we unpack the pull of short-form video, the lure of shock-based virality, and the hidden costs of counterfeit products that undercut creators and confuse buyers.Together, we explore media literacy in 2025: noticing how algorithms nudge, spotting AI-generated tricks, and pruning feeds. Hence, they reflect the life we want—not the outrage someone else profits from. Then a real-world twist beats any reel. In a packed Costco line, a stranger waved us ahead and paid for our entire order. She showed us kindness.. That simple act shifted our perspective more than hours of scrolling—proof that the most meaningful “content” is often experienced offline, where gratitude expands and paying it forward becomes the obvious next step.If you're ready to curate a kinder, smarter feed—and trade empty noise for stories that teach, delight, and elevate—this conversation will help you set a fresh tone for the new year. Subscribe, share this episode with a friend who needs a reset, and tell us: what will you cut from your feed and what will you add to elevate your days?Look up, and let's elevate!Support the showhttps://www.thegenko.com

Who we are is a function of where we are. Do you agree with that? Who you are depends on where you are. We're different people in different places, right? You're different in the board room than you are on vacation. You're different with your parents than you are with your kids. I'm different hanging out with Malcolm Gladwell in his West Village apartment than I am sitting in my basement as I type up a little note about it. That theme is one that we get to open up in this chapter of 3 Books with the one and only Malcolm Gladwell. I flew down to New York and joined Malcolm at his place where we settled around a table surrounded by books. Top to bottom! Floor to ceiling! And, no big deal, all hardcovers. "This is a fraction of my books, I should say," he told me as we began the chat. We talk about raising nerds in a world forcing us into being average, how to find tribes where we truly fit in, who Malcolm thinks is the best non-fiction author alive, why thrillers are instructive, what Malcolm's biggest advice is for aspiring authors, and, of course, his 3 most formative books. It was a rare treat to sit down with Malcolm Gladwell in this classic chapter of 3 Books...

We're back for more stories about the impact the David Eccles School of Business has on the lives and careers of our alums, and today we are sharing another success story of connections made through the David Eccles Alumni Network with Jeff Lewis and Alexandra Floor.Continuing our focus on mentorship and networking, Frances talks to Jeff and Alexandra about how they connected through the Eccles School, and how that connection led to an internship opportunity that created benefits for both Jeff and Alexandra. Jeff, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual and Founder/CEO of Gelder Generational Wealth, served as a member of the David Eccles Alumni Network Board for 15 years, and Alexandra, set to graduate from the David Eccles School of Business this spring, serves as the director of Mentorship for Women in Finance and vice president of recruitment for Alpha Phi. Jeff has been involved with the school as an alum and a mentor, while Alexandra shares her experiences as a student benefiting from these connections. They discuss the value of internships, mentorship, and the ways in which the alumni network fosters professional growth for both current students and graduates. Eccles Business Buzz is a production of the David Eccles School of Business and is produced by University.fm.Eccles Business Buzz is proud to be selected by FeedSpot as one of the Top 70 Business School podcasts on the web. Learn more at https://podcast.feedspot.com/us_business_school_podcasts. Episode Quotes:Alexandra reveals the real secret to building and growing your network[27:48] You're only as smart as the people you surround yourself by. And if you don't reach out to people who are smarter than you and intelligent and not in a negative way, but as students, there's so much opportunity out there. And for people with such high levels of experience, I mean, Jeff's been in the business for almost 30 years and for just taking that step to reach out and be around them and surround yourself, even if it's just lunch, even if you know it does turn into an internship, is the only way you're going to grow so significantly and build your network. Why experiential opportunities build student confidence[13:46] When you think about an internship, it's really that you're test driving a career, and you're doing it without high consequence. You're not going into it with this expectation of being there for years on end. You're going into it with the parameters that are dialed out, like in this case, a semester. In some cases, it's just summer. But I think that's where the opportunity lies with an intern opportunity: to really have the student engage in that experiential learning and do it in order to build their confidence and really stretch themselves because I think that's what's going to differentiate them, not only on a resume, but really in the marketplace to be able to say, “Look, I've done something; I've done something different here, and here's why I know I do or don't want to continue to do that.” And I think that's something that, from my standpoint, if we find out that it's not a good fit, we're going to hopefully help that intern find something else that's a better fit. And when I was mentoring some students years ago, when they started the mentoring program at the University of Utah formally, I remember being in the union, and there were so many students that wanted to have mentors, and I had a table of about 10 students. And I learned very quickly that some of them just really wanted to have that interaction, to have discussions, have conversations, and some of them just wanted to be walked down the road. Jeff reminds alumni that simply showing up makes a big impact on a student's life[25:58] It's always fun to have that connection with people that you just have been able to do some good with and to be able to raise money for scholarships or to be able to mentor incoming students or outgoing students or those that are right in the middle. So all of the above. And I would encourage anybody if they're having second thoughts about doing it, like, “Well, I don't know if I can really help.” There's always something you can do. Showing up is such a great thing. There are so many people that come up and just invest a little bit of time, and it really yields some great benefits for the students and all those that are participating.Show Links:Jeff Lewis | LinkedInJeffrey Gelder Lewis | Northwestern MutualAlexandra Floor | LinkedInDavid Eccles School of Business (@ubusiness) | InstagramUndergraduate Scholars ProgramsRising Business LeadersEccles Alumni Network (@ecclesalumni) | Instagram Eccles Experience Magazine

CBC's Rosemary Barton debriefs on her one-on-one interview with Prime Minister Mark Carney, where Carney didn't answer when asked if there's an active recruitment campaign to take MPs from other parties. Then, CBC's Cathy Senay reports that Pablo Rodriguez will announce his resignation as leader of the Quebec Liberal Party on Thursday, with sources telling Radio-Canada that Rodriguez felt he'd become too great a distraction after weeks of controversies and party turmoil. Former Quebec deputy premier Michelle Courchesne and former Harper government adviser Rudy Husny discuss what this means for the chances that Quebec could be headed for a third sovereignty referendum.

In this mindset-shifting episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling reveal why most people struggle to maintain their fasting lifestyle during challenging times—their habits are only designed for perfect days. They introduce the "Full vs Floor" framework, a game-changing approach that gives you two versions of every critical habit: your ideal "full" version for good days and your non-negotiable "floor" version for when life gets chaotic. The hosts walk through practical examples for salt and hydration, exercise, protein intake, fasting schedules, sleep, and holiday navigation, showing exactly how to maintain momentum without perfectionism. They explain why discipline isn't about doing more—it's about never doing nothing—and how keeping habits alive even in their most minimal form tells your brain you're still moving forward. With the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this episode provides the permission and framework you need to stop the all-or-nothing thinking that leads to weight regain, helping you build true consistency through imperfect action rather than abandoned perfection. You'll learn how to spot the red flags, reframe your mindset, and raise your floor with small shifts that actually stick during busy seasons and the holidays. We play Fool's Paradise with CB coming to hangout with us as he and Rothman are going up against each other in the station's semifinals. The Floor is Yours. We play Party Like a Rothstar. Tyvis Powell is late to the show because he picked up Richard Sherman's phone call instead of ours. Jeremiah Smith was passed over for the Biletnikoff Award. Joel Klatt thinks March Madness is terribly constructed. Shedeur is under fire for standing still while everyone else tries to go tackle the defender who intercepted his pass. We go Day Trippin' w/ Austin Ward. And Rothman and Ice pull a rabbit out of their hat on a trivia question during Tell the Truth.

Send us a textThe mics are back on and so are our hearts. After a brief pause, we're catching you up on a season that blended creative momentum with honest conversations about grief, memory, and what it means to keep elevating when the holidays press on tender places. We sat with the complexity of the season. Gen reflects on training with grief educator David Kessler and how it reframed loss from something to close to something to integrate. We talk about the difference between moving on and moving forward, and how remembering becomes a daily practice that carries our people with us.We offer practical language for supporting someone who's grieving—less fixing, more listening—and a reminder to give and receive freely. Come for the creative behind-the-scenes, stay for the honest, hopeful tools to navigate holidays, legacy, and everyday courage with a little more light. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a quick review to help more people find our community. When reporters asked Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson about the potential of more MPs crossing the floor to the Liberals on Monday, Hodgson hinted that he's getting 'lots of inquiries.' Former Liberal campaign co-chair David Herle and former Conservative chief of staff David McLaughlin break down whether Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's response to the crossings will be enough to shore up his caucus — and his future as leader. Plus, the Power Panel weighs in on new comments from Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who says the next direct U.S. engagement on trade likely won't be until the review of the North American free trade agreement.
A charming West Virginia river town. A historic hotel on the Ohio River. A quiet Tuesday night that should've been forgettable. Two men check in for a simple business trip in Parkersburg and walk into a lobby that feels… wrong. No staff at the front desk. No other guests milling around. Just the hush of a building that seems to be waiting for something. Or someone. Then the elevator doors open. Inside stands a woman dressed decades out of time—hat, laced-up boots, skin almost drained of color. She speaks like she belongs there. The problem? The floor she's headed to is closed for renovations. And when she glides out into the hallway, the men realize what they can't see is far more unsettling than what they can. Later that night, a knock at 2 a.m. confirms it: some guests never really check out of this hotel. #realghoststoriesonline #hauntedhotel #parkersburg #hauntedwestvirginia #ghoststory #trueghoststories #paranormalpodcast #hauntedplaces #ghosttour #elevatorghost #spooky #supernatural Love real ghost stories?
