Acclaim though important when shared can be invaluable for some when the recognition rests solely on one individual's talent alone.  A star leaving a band to set out to make a name for him or herself is an all-too common tale.  Often times, the impetus of a band's demise occurs when hubris takes precedence (Or, believe in one's self and abilities, if you're into that kind of stuff).  This week on Formidable Opponents, we spend 78 minutes trying to name members of The Commodores outside of Lionel Ritchie without Googling.  Join us for a fun discussion as we talk and debate "Best Musical Artist That Went Solo."   Oh, and on a side note, if ever given a chance to go back and do a one line solo for "We Are The World," rest assured each one of us would drop the other two like a bad habit.Support the showReach out to us and follow us:formidableopponents@gmail.com (Contact us)https://formidableopponents.buzzsprout.com/ (Website)@Fopponents (Twitter)formidable_opponents (Instagram)FormidableOpponents (Facebook)@formidableopponents (Tik Tok)https://www.buymeacoffee.com/foropponents (Show us some love)Cover art by Creative Little Pillhttps://www.instagram.com/creativelittlepill/https://creative-little-pill.creator-spring.com/

Florida appeared to finally be on track in Year 1 under Billy Napier following decisive wins against South Carolina and Texas A&M. Boomer likes the confident Zach Wilson who said nobody outside the building knows what they're talking about. But he's also put a target on his back if they lose in New England. Aaron Judge won the A.L. MVP award. Did Brian Cashman make an offer to Judge or not? Derrick Henry ran for and threw a TD pass as the Titans beat the Packers 27-17. Aaron Rodgers talked about hearing the fans boo at Lambeau: ‘interesting'. The Browns/Bills game has been moved to Detroit. Jerry had audio of Zach Wilson saying nobody outside the building knows what they're talking about. Saquon Barkley has a new nickname for Daniel Jones: Vanilla Vick. The Nets beat the Blazers in Portland. The Devils won again making it eleven straight. The Rangers lost in Seattle in OT. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter. Gio said he's lighting it on fire like he's going to blow it up. We also talked about the failure of FTX.  Hour 2: The Giants are 7-2 but they have to keep winning the games they're supposed to win. This week against the Lions is one of these games. Boomer thinks the Colts are going to beat the Eagles which would be great for the Giants. Boomer can see a lot of dogs winning this week. Aaron Rodgers looks zoned out during games while on the bench. Looking at the spread for Giants/Cowboys, Dallas is favored by 7 on Thanksgiving. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Aaron Judge winning the A.L. MVP. The Titans beat the Packers 27-17 in Lambeau. Derrick Henry ran for and threw a TD. The movie ‘80 For Brady' looks terrible. Jerry also told us about a Winnie The Pooh slasher movie. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the wind at MetLife and how Jared Goff stinks outdoors in the cold.  Hour 3: Qatar will only be selling non-alcoholic beers at World Cup Events even though Budweiser spent over $70 million as a sponsor. Streaming is not as lucrative as was first thought.  Hour 4: Last week on the NFL Today Bill Cowher criticized the Colts for hiring Jeff Saturday. Gio wonders if he will reference that this week. Boomer says he doesn't think he will.  He doesn't need to. Gio wants him to go after Pat McAfee. Al goes in the studio to wear the Bengals B&W helmet to call plays. Gio doesn't like when the Jets & Giants are on at the same time. Boomer said this is a signature moment for the Jets to beat the Patriots. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Aaron Judge winning the A.L. MVP. Brian Cashman was asked about Judge free agency and whether they made an offer yet. Aaron Rodgers was asked what it was like being booed at home: ‘Interesting'. Zach Wilson said nobody outside of the Jets building knows what they're talking about. Kenny Golladay is not worried about the fans booing him. Wink Martindale loves the energy of the Giants fans. The Nets won in Portland. The Devils win their eleventh straight. Djery Baptiste has a pretty incredible journey - not only how he got to PCA, but where he's been since he graduated from PCA in 2015. Djery matriculated to Vanderbilt University, played basketball for the Commodores, graduated in three and a half years, went on to earn his first masters degree from the University of Massachusetts and then has been playing professional basketball in Europe for the past few years.   Djery speaks four languages - French, Spanish, English and Creole. He didn't come to the United States until he was 15 years old. It is a pretty amazing journey that brought Djery to PCA…so many incredible individuals have invested their time and energies into his life - and he continues to work hard to improve himself as an individual. Djery is now working on improving his basketball skills to try to make it into the NBA as a professional basketball player!   One of Djery's favorite verses is Matthew 6:33 which reads, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” PCA alumni - if you would like to connect with Veronica Erickson, you can email her at verickson@prestonwoodchristian.org Special shout out to Jared Wood for allowing us to use his music - check him out at JaredWoodMusic!
