Episode 84: Darlene Swaffar Discusses Her Candidacy for U.S. Congress in Florida District 22

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 22, 2020 30:28

Darlene Swaffar, is a Republican Candidate running for Congress in District 22 in South FL.   It’s time to return the “People’s House of Congress” back to “WE THE PEOPLE.”  It’s time for us to take back our Government and RESTORE ORDER and not only abide by, but also enforce our Constitutional Laws. My Ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, and the Civil War.  They along with one of the Greatest Founding Fathers, my 9th Great Uncle Benjamin Franklin would be appalled to see how our Congress has conducted themselves.  The 116th Congress has filed more unnecessary inquiries than composing or passing any good productive legislation. Presidential Candidate Elizabeth Warren talks about “Medicare for All” which could bankrupt our Country.  She further suggests to eliminate all private insurance plans, and that anyone currently in the Medicare or Health insurance industry could simple switch and sell auto insurance.  Does she not understand that is a different license!!  That is precisely the issue.  Many in our Congress don’t have a clue about what they are talking about, yet our lives hang in the balance. Please understand, I am NOT a Politician, nor do I care to be politically correct.  Originally from Brooklyn, NY and a South FL resident for over 27 years, like you I have had enough of what I have seen play out on TV.  I am disgusted at the behavior of our elected officials.  I have never seen this level of partisanship and hate openly displayed for the world to see.  It is an absolute embarrassment and a disrespect towards Americans.  They forget that they serve We The People. The only solution I see, is if we have a clean slate in Congress.   Vote out all the corruption and replace Congress with American Patriots who have a respect for our Constitution.  We do not need career politicians who have grown more concerned over their career and self-interest.  I’m going to Congress to call out every Corrupt Politician and live up to the Legacy of my family lineage. aka The Medicare Lady TM, I’m a business owner of a Medicare Insurance Agency with a team of 30 agents  I live and work in my District.  My company is a 100% Certified Woman and Hispanic owned business.  When I walk into the Senior Center or my favorite Breakfast Place First Watch, they know me by name.  Deerfield Beach is my Neighborhood.  There are 2 candidates registered to run who DO NOT live or work in our district!  No other candidate in my Primary matches my business knowledge, success, Community Service Awards and Record.   Platform Protect our Constitution specifically our 2nd Amendment Rights. Support our President in MAGA.  With a Congress that supports our President, imagine what we can do as a Country?  Democrats who are consumed with Impeaching our President and filing false allegations affects us on the Worldwide Stage, and our ability to negotiate trade deals and advance peace talks.  Their Agenda hurts us all! Fight for Medicare Benefits including Respite Care for our Seniors.  Our Seniors deserve more.  As the Medicare Lady TM, I am an expert on Medicare Health Insurance and can advance and negotiate on behalf of our Seniors.  There is no one in Congress right now with my level of expertise from an insurance perspective. Explore lowering drug costs comparable with Canadian and European prices.  Hold big pharma accountable. Help Our Veterans with Housing and Mental Help Support.  On average, 22 Veterans commit suicide every day.  We need to do better America!  We need to change this statistic and honor and support our Veterans. Protect our waterways and beaches from erosion.  Assist our community with weather preparedness. Promote economic development and create diverse job opportunities so we are less dependent on tourism or cyclical business cycles in South FL. Mandatory Term Limits for Congress Members. Fight against Lobbying that diverts attention to Corporate interests instead of Americans. Work on Legislation to improve and elevate moral conduct standards and guidelines of elected officials.  Let’s send a message that unethical behavior will not be tolerated in Congress. Institute a Financial Responsibility and Home Economics course across our school system.  Teach our children how to balance a checkbook, budgeting and investing. My Strengths include: Expertise on Medicare and Healthcare Insurance and will fight for your health benefits Solutions focused A Strategic Thinker and Problem Solver Entrepreneurial Experience Accounting and Finance Project Management Recruiting and Training General and Social Media Marketing A record of serving of Professional Boards with distinction Send a Winner and look no further than Darlene Swaffar for Congress, District #22.  When we send the wrong Candidate, WE ALL LOSE.  Thank you for taking the time to read my email and learn more about your Candidate for Congress and our Campaign.  We look forward to serving you, while restoring moral standards to our Congress. As a young man he was very active in the community and was heavily involved in The Boy Scouts of America where he earned the Rank of Eagle Scout before he turned 16 years of age.  As a result of the atrocious attacks on September 11th, 2001 and after a close friend and high school teammate was killed in Iraq, Chris decided to enlist in the United States Army as a Psychological Warfare Specialist in the United States Army Special Operations Command following a long line of combat veterans in his family. Both of his grandfathers saw combat in the Korean War and likewise, his father in Vietnam.  After basic training Chris attended the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (JFKSWCS) at Fort Bragg, NC earning a diploma in Psychological Warfare, courses included being trained in the art of persuasion, influence, negotiation, and deception as well as detecting deception. Chris will be successful in Congress using this highly unique skill set to get things done for America and help solve the most difficult issues we face as a nation. Chris became a second generation Paratrooper earning his Airborne Wings at Fort Benning, GA. He returned to Fort Bragg, NC to attend Special Operations Language Training (SOLT) at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (JFKSWCS) earning a Diploma in the Spanish Language.  Soon after his highly specialized training was complete Chris was assigned to a Tactical PSYOP Team (TPT) attached to 3rd Special Forces Group right in time for the "Surge" in Afghanistan. He deployed with 3rd Special Forces Group to Southern Afghanistan serving as an augmented member of a Special Forces ODA (Operational Detachment Alpha) in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan for most of 2009 After a brief time back in the states Chris redeployed for his second combat tour. This time he was attached to a MARSOC Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) now known as Marine Raiders in Western Afghanistan’s Herat and Badghis Provinces for most of 2010. Upon returning home from his second tour of duty, Chris chose to transition back to civilian life, he was honorably discharged and was decorated for his combat service.  Upon returning home to Safford, AZ, he began using his G.I. Bill benefits at Eastern Arizona College where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart and eternal companion Sarah. After a brief whirlwind romance the couple was married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Gila Valley Temple. A year later they welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Jordan Rae Taylor. In 2014 Chris founded Desert Eagle Addiction Recovery, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals, especially fellow combat veterans, suffering from drug addiction. In his 5 years as Executive Director he has been able to help countless individuals find recovery and the help they need to become healthy, productive members of society again.  In addition to his non-profit work, in 2015 Chris fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a state certified firefighter with the Safford Fire Department following in the footsteps of his Grandfather who was a long time Fire Chief with the department ending an illustrious 32-year career with an induction into the Arizona Fire Service Hall of Fame. In 2016 at the age of 30, Chris was elected to the Safford City Council receiving over 80% of total votes cast. Brett Kokinadis Republican Candidate for New Mexico’s First Congressional Business Owner & Technology Innovator Brett started his first business at the age of nineteen and continues to develop new technology-based companies in New Mexico, the US, and around the world. Managing a payroll, mentoring startups, and helping local entrepreneurs gives Brett a clear understanding of the difficulties we face in New Mexico as small business owners. Brett's won several awards, including placing as one of the best global tech startups in Dubai, Amazon Re:invent Startup partner, and was a New Mexico's NMSBA recipient. Border Security Brett support's building the wall and protecting our borders through physical, technological, and human resources. Europe is a case study of the issues caused by uncontrolled migration. Unchecked immigration to the US would create economic, social, and cultural strains. New Mexicans demand we protect our borders. Crime & Homelessness Securing resources for law enforcement, training, and implementation oversight is needed to fight New Mexico's crime rate and is critical to the safety and prosperity of our communities. To tackle crime in New Mexico, we must focus on several root causes, including illegal immigration, justice, homelessness, addiction, economic growth, and job creation. Crime and homelessness is an interconnected issue. Opioid Crisis Suboxone and Methadone therapies are available in New Mexico; however, some programs are more successful than others. Funding is not always the complete answer to addressing problems. Brett has created an Opioid Crisis Advisory Board consisting of doctors, treatment facilities, therapists, and alternative medicine practitioners. To find real solutions to New Mexico's problems, Brett believes in consulting the experts and implement solutions where results can be measured. 2nd Amendment & Red Flag Laws The US Constitution is clear on our rights regarding firearms. Brett has recently attended the City of Albuquerque's public hearings to stand up against Red Flag laws that lack legal, due process, and rejected by 28 of 33 counties in New Mexico. H.R.8 - the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 is simply another feel-good gun law. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) does not require states to report criminal history or adjudicated mental health court cases and thus is rendered incomplete. Veterans The VA must standardize its electronic medical records systems to ensure that veteran medical records from external providers are submitted before payments are released to ensure continuity of care. Brett's committed to working for a VetFirst program to enable veterans a fast path to benefits they've earned, including healthcare, business startup services, and employer incentives for job training and payroll taxes that hire veterans. Ending Late-term Abortion Life is a gift, and New Mexicans, regardless of party support ending late-term abortion. New Mexico is one of seven states that support abortion up to birth, which Brett believes is unethical and immoral.
Economic Growth & Jobs Congresswoman Deb Haaland hasn't provided a plan of how Congress can help NM grow its economy. With 63 Opportunity Zones under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 designed to attract capital investment into economically distressed areas, New Mexico is prime to recruit new investment and businesses into our state. Building unity across NM's Government Officials to attract new business and invest in NM through low-interest loans, agricultural incentives, and a New Mexico First model must be our priority. In Congress, Brett will fight for additional jobs at our national labs and bases, which contribute over a $4B impact to local economies. Education Reform Brett supports providing school choice for parents, better preparing students to compete in a global economy, trade schools, and modernizing an outdated federal student aid system. Ending predatory lending for student loans is a responsible approach to ensuring more students are invested in their education while controlling the long-term costs of seeking higher education. Community Advisory Boards As your next Congressional Representative in the House, Brett pledges to listen to you, the people through both face-to-face meetings, and through Community Advisory Boards. The purpose of community advisory boards is to discover the hidden issues, find the local experts, and bring resources to solutions for everyday problems that impact New Mexicans. To find real solutions, we must involve local experts and community voices. Internet Bill of Rights Protecting free speech online is a policy every American can stand behind. It is critical for laws focused on Internet speech to mirror the First Amendment and protect free speech for all. Brett is the first candidate to call for an Internet Bill of Rights and one of the few future members that understand technology. Brett will work to ensure social media policies are transparent, equally enforced, are audible, and that free speech is protected online for all. Brett also supports reinstating net neutrality. Socialism, Spending & Tax Cuts Socialism has failed in every example. Brett believes we must cut government spending to reduce the $23 trillion national debt. Keeping taxes low for individuals, families and small businesses will always be in focus. Federal debt spending should be considered when it will enable growth in the GDP and enable our country to repay debt faster through strategic investments. Healthcare Brett's focused on lowering the cost of prescription drugs by working to reduce FDA approval costs, industry price gauging, and supporting free-market insurance systems. Supporting the free-markets will reduce healthcare costs and increase access through competition. Want to help Brett defeat Deb Haaland?

Episode 62: Diana Davis Talks About Her Passion in Helping to Eradicate Sex and Labor Trafficking in America Through Her Non Profit Movies Making a Difference

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 8, 2020 32:43

About Diana Davis It is often said that people make their own change. They either change themselves to fit the world, or they try to change the world to fit them. Diana Davis falls into that courageous latter group. When she learned about the appalling situation of corruption and organized pedophilia hiding under the guise of a twisted religion that was, and is, rampant in the USA, she made a movie about it. She had never made a film before and had no money.....but she regarded these facts as minor obstacles.  Bringing it in way under budget and ahead of schedule, the film she produced, “Cathedral Canyon”, went on to win Awards at both the Palm Beach International Film Festival and the Jerome Film Festival where much of the film's audience horrified to learn for the first time, the extraordinary story of what was going on in their own country and pitched in to help. This is how one person can decide to make a difference and galvanize others to do the same.  She decided to make this her mission. Diana started MoviesMakingADifference, 501c3. Its' ambition was to produce inspiring and commercial films that highlight social ills and injustice and plow the proceeds back into the non-profit to benefit the victims of these issues. And that is exactly what MMAD does.  In the absence of any action by politicians, Diana and her team at MMAD started raising money for the victims and survivors of the cult Church that inspired that first film. A Church that forces its' followers into child marriage, forced labor and are often even starved out by their Church or excommunicated with little education or knowledge of the outside world should they fall into disfavor.  MMAD has been able to fulfill their initial mission and go even further. They rescued girls being held as sex slaves and others from traffickers who prey on them if they manage to escape and are alone on the streets. MMAD finds shelter and furnishings for those that became homeless after being expelled from the Church and being stripped of their possessions as a result. MMAD has provided drug/alcohol treatment programs, job training, transportation, employment and dental care. For others one of the most important has been the ability to study for and achieve a GED since schooling was never a priority in the community. More than that, sometimes it is as simple as just taking the time to listen, talk, guide, inspire and be inspired, for some victims to make a tremendous difference themselves. When provisions are needed; personal hygiene items, blankets sewing machines and fabric to help. MMAD also flies to other states to meet those left stranded by their so-called Church and offer them help.  By staying involved with the victims long after the cameras have stopped rolling, she now has a devoted and talented team (some of whom are the actual survivors themselves) who were ready for work as the cameras started rolling again. ‘Cult Cartel’ was filmed with actual survivors alongside Hollywood actors such as Donny Most (Happy Days) and Jud Tylor (That 70s Show)  The fictional feature film is from the heart of those finding their voices, but also celebrates the heroic community of “Short Creek” that has stood up for itself after many years of waiting for the inalienable rights given to all Americans but had passed them by. Seeing that those on the outside were never going to help unless it affected their own, they remarkably empowered themselves by uniting, taking their town back and making it blossom and flourish. The film is expected to be released fall of 2019.  All this started by one lady determined to make a positive difference. Website: www.moviesmakingadifference.org

In her book “God Promised Me Wings to Fly: There is Life After Suicide,” Janet motivates and encourages others to seek help to find their purpose in life, even when things seem hopeless.  As a suicide survivor, Janet empowers others and provides hope for those who feel powerless. Janet shares her experience after her husband’s death relating to issues of suicide, trust, betrayal, and illusions.  Lies and hope lead Janet to adventures of writing personal letters to God and asking Him to write back to her.  There are many questions to be asked in order to have a better understanding of how Janet’s life experiences and learned lessons can help others. Questions: What happens when suicide takes a loved one? Was your husband depressed? Did he show signs of being suicidal? How did you manage to heal yourself especially after finding out about his betrayals? How does the death by suicide differ in the aftereffects from other deaths? Who do you reach out to when you feel you have no place to turn? Writing “God Promised Me Wings to Fly: There is Life After Suicide” was the beginning of Janet embarking on a new career that she never imagined she would be a part of.  As she began her career as a motivational speaker, Janet had the opportunity to meet many people whose lives were touched by a tragic death.    Janet became a freelance writer for Crown City News in Sacramento, CA. She started interviewing Veterans whose life was touched by a suicide (attempted suicide and survivors of suicide). She interviewed a Gold Star Mom whose son committed suicide.  She met a man whose son committed suicide and he started the display of a collection of 660 flags.  On average 22 American Veterans commit suicide every day; 660 each month and more than 7,000 each year.  She soon found that many people have seen the display of flags but did not know when they meant.  Janet decided to design a flag that when people see it, they will now what it means.  Soon the flag will be presented to President Trump in consideration to be the face of his PREVENTS program. (President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide). About Bazzel Baz:  He has a way of helping people to breakthrough and stretch to new levels of greatness. He’s Bazzel Baz, aka “Baz”, President of the Association For The Recovery of Children and Life Guarantor for a plethora of clients finding themselves in life threatening circumstances.  Baz’s favorite quote from his father “it isn’t what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you that counts”...helps fuel his fire as he works with his clients to move to extraordinary performance and motivation.  Baz’s favorite quote from his mother “keep God first” is the source from which the fuel is derived.  Throughout his corporate career he has been known for his creative, spirited, high energy and purposeful approach to developing relationships, talent and solutions. His layer peeling approach to life in parable form is enlightening. He gives so much of himself to help others to be their very best, to do their very best and return the favor.  As the recipient of the Intelligence Commendation Medal and numerous Exceptional Performance Awards, Baz is able to draw from his ten-years supporting the CIA as an undercover operative in field intelligence collection operations throughout the Far East, Middle East, Northern Europe, Central America, South America, the Mediterranean and Africa. These experiences as a Paramilitary Officer in developing and recommending policy, operational doctrine, hostage rescue involvement, as well as methods and techniques for use in clandestine activities place him head and shoulders above speakers who are not battle tested.  Baz is a Citadel Graduate, former U.S. Marine counter-terrorism Officer, CIA Intelligence Special Operations Group Officer, Film and Television Writer/Producer and founder of the Association for the Recovery of Children (ARC) humbly acknowledging a 100% successful rescue rate. (Also - Association For The Recovery Of Children on Facebook).  He is also the OCONUS Director of Programing for Due North Quest...created out of a critical need for summer programs to support young men returning from boarding schools or struggling to find clear next steps toward their future goals. It offers a great transition and provides a rite of passage into manhood.  The Quest redefines physical and mental limits by providing an intensive, personalized and one to one team experience geared to develop extreme stamina, determination and inner strength that goes well beyond what is available through group training.  Baz is a member of the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild, passing another milestone in 2002 as he and Edgar Strubble (composer for Country Western Singer, Kenny Rogers) finished "March On By", a patriotic song produced by Peter Panic Music of Burbank California, as a salute to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and Civilian Rescue Operations. He is also co-stars in the NBC television hit series The Blacklist.  Baz's twenty-year journey as a speaker has taken him through an international circuit of guerrilla leaders like former UNITA President Jonas Savimbi of Angola, Afghan Rebels, Ministers of Defense, former Ambassadors/Heads of State and thousands of freedom fighters, often under the demands to provide motivational insight and guidance. On the home front his influence and intriguing reputation has catapulted his career as a welcomed spokesperson among Corporate Leaders, Law Enforcement Organizations, Public Television, Educational Institutes as well as smaller groups like the Brandeis University National Women's Committee and Rotary, to name a few.  His ability to scale both ends of the spectrum, no audience to big...no audience to small, is a reflection of the seasoned veteran he is, high in demand and admired for his "speak truthfully" approach on a variety of issues, many of which are often sensationalized or distorted by the media.  Like his fellow Citadel graduate Pat Conroy (bestselling author of works including The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini), Baz has learned to develop partnerships with experienced television and film makers to send his message of good-will leadership and motivation that moves the masses to take responsibility and make a difference in this world. He is respected by many as one of the Hollywood/CIA go-to-guys, Baz continues to interact with production favorites as NBC, CBS, MGM, TNT, FX and others.  Today Baz travels nationally and internationally to provide breakthroughs to awesome performance with an uncanny ability to bring simple solutions to complicated scenarios. He is a well sought after motivational speaker and has been called “The Life Guarantor.” In addition, he has worked with hundreds of leaders and managers to coach them in successful leadership principles and is open to customizing material to meet the specific needs of the client.  MORE about Baz  Afghanistan/Nicaragua/Angola/Somalia Vet.  Awarded Intelligence Commendation Medal  Security Consultant and Advisor to Private Military Corporations  Author of the Terrorism Survival Handbook  Author of Dolphins in the Sky/The Narrow View/Spies Guide To Dating, Something Bigger Than Overthrowing Small Governments  Featured on Combat Missions USA Network  Consulting Producer on Avenger TNT  Technical Advisor to the show Jake 2.0  Associate Producer to CBS-TV show "The Agency"  Co-Executive Producer and Host of CBS Television Reality Show, "Recovery"  Spokesperson for CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, etc. for the 'War on Terrorism"  Featured on History Channel's "Practical to Tactical", Leeza Gibbons "What Should You Do?"  Extreme Sports Enthusiast competing in the International DHX South African Streetluge  www.recoveryofchildren.org www.bazzel-baz.com www.lifecoachbaz.com Bazzel Baz: Instagram & Facebook Association for the Recovery of Children: Facebook www.bazbooks.com

Jeremy Staat was born in Bakersfield California to his parents Harold and Janet Staat, on October 10, 1976. He is the middle child of three. As a 1994 graduate of Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif., Jeremy was a two-sport star, lettering four times in football and three times in track. As a student athlete in football and track and field; Jeremy was honored with many different awards for his efforts. In football, he was a part of a football program starting his freshman year that had a combined winning record of 41-2-1. Jeremy was one of the team captains in 1993 and was a 2-time all-Area/all-South Yosemite League first-team in football. He was named the best lineman in the South Yosemite League, earned Lineman of the Year by the Bakersfield Californian, earned a California All-State Honorable Mention, and was named as the starting left tackle for the Shrine California North/South All-Star football game.  As a track and field standout at Bakersfield High School Jeremy earned the most improved player award, and most valuable player in the south Yosemite league and was the South Yosemite League champion in the shot put and discus in 1992-93. Jeremy was the captain of the track team in 1993-94 and was selected as the Athlete of the Year by The Bakersfield  Californian in 1993-1994 and earned the California State C.I.F. champion in the discus throw. For his efforts he was named All-Area/All-South Yosemite league, named Jockey Club Athlete of the Month (April 1994), was Bakersfield High School’s Most Valuable Player in track and field in 1994, and was the recipient of the Howard Whalen Track and Field Memorial Scholarship.  After graduating high school at the age of 17, Jeremy decided that he wanted to stay local and attend Bakersfield Community College. Once again Jeremy continued his athletic endeavors by competing as a two-sport athlete while attending Bakersfield College. He was a member of 1994 and 1995 Western States Conference football championship team and was also a member of 1994 and 1995 Potato Bowl Champions, with a combined record of 20-2 and was coached by Carl Bowser and Dwayne Damron. As a freshman Jeremy played offensive tackle and tight end and earned honorable mention All-Western States Conference and was recipient of the Matt Poole Award. During the 1995-96 football seasons he was named first-team offense Western States Conference, Honorable Mention All-American by J.C. Grid wire, and earned the Bakersfield College coach’s award.  As a track and field competitor for the Bakersfield College Renegades during the 1994- 95, his freshman track season, Jeremy earned the California State Jr. College champion honor in the discus throw, he was named Western States Conference Most Valuable Player, Bakersfield College freshman athlete of the year, and Bakersfield Jockey Club athlete of the month. During Jeremy’s sophomore year at Bakersfield College he was named the Most Outstanding Male Athlete at Bakersfield College in 1995-96 served as a team captain. He also set school records in discus, 182' 4" (which still stands today) and the shot put 58' 1/4," he won the State Championship in both the discus and the shot put, becoming the first male to win two throwing events in one year. His 2nd place finish in the Hammer Throw at this State Meet made him the highest scoring athlete, EVER, at the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships. He also earned all WSC first-team honors in the discus and shot put. Won the hammer, discus, and shot put in the Southern Cal Meet of Champions; becoming the first person to win these three events in the meet's history (which still remains today). He went on to take first-place in the shot put at the National Jr. College All-American Track and Field meet earned Junior All-American status at the U.S.A. Junior National Track and Field championships. He received Cerritos College Event's top field athlete in the 1995-96 track season. He went on to compete unattached at the 1996 Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State University, in the shot put and discus throw (took fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 56' 3 ", which would have placed him as a provisional in the NCAA outdoor championships and took fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 180' 1 " that would have placed him as eighth all-time in ASU history. In 1996, Jeremy graduated from Bakersfield Community College in Bakersfield, Calif., with an associate degree in Criminal Justice, and in 2001 was inducted into the Bakersfield College Hall of Fame. With everything that Jeremy had completed up to this point as a student athlete he still wanted to continue with his college education and wanted to compete at the Division I level, and he decided to accept an athletic scholarship to Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.  Jeremy was extremely excited for the opportunity to play for the Arizona State SunDevils. Although he wasn’t able to be a multi-sport athlete, like he was in high school and junior college, he still gave everything he had to the football team, but still wanted to compete in the shot put and discus, but he knew that there was going to be a crossroads at some point in his athletic career and he was going to have to choose between football and track and field, and since he was on a football scholarship he knew that track and field would have to take a back seat.  During his time with the SunDevils the football team went 11-0 in 1996 for a 1997 Rose Bowl National Championship appearance where the SunDevils played the Ohio State Buckeyes and came up short in the final minutes of the game. The SunDevils went on to be ranked #4 in the Nation. During Jeremy’s senior year the SunDevils went 9-3 his senior year and won a Bowl bid to play in the Norwest SunBowl in El Paso, Texas in 1997. With the 1997 Sun Bowl Appearance, Jeremy was named the Jimmy Roger Jr's, Most Valuable player Defensive lineman of the game. He went on to earn 2nd team all-Pac 10 honors and was the 1997 Morris Trophy recipient, which was the 1st time in history that a defensive lineman from ASU won that award.  The Morris Trophy is the college football award given to the Pac 10's most valuable Offensive and Defensive lineman. Jeremy was also named a 1997, 1st team All American, by the Sporting News as well as 1st Team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America. He also earned four “Player of the Game” awards from ASU as a Defensive Lineman.  During the 1997 regular season he had 12.5 sacks and 23.0 total tackles-for-loss and earned another 3 sacks and X tackle for losses in the Norwest SunBowl, which gave him the single season sack record for a defensive lineman in ASU history. During his playing time at ASU Jeremy had become good friends with Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a standout scholar athlete who was drafted into the National Football League (NFL), played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, and thus turned down a $4.6 million-dollar contract to join the Army Rangers and was killed in action in April of 2004.  In 1998 Jeremy was drafted in the National Football League in the 2nd round of the draft and was the 41st pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jeremy played three seasons with the Steelers and found that it wasn’t a good fit and decided to look at other teams within the NFL. In 2001 he signed on with the Seattle Seahawks and was released after the fifth week of training camp and returned home to Scottsdale, AZ., and begun to rethink his professional career. While waiting on another team to pick him up a national tragedy occurred that turned his attention from the NFL to national service, the event that took place was the terrorist attacks that happened on September 11, 2001. After seeing the carnage of the 9/11 attacks upon the World Trade Centers, Jeremy decided that he wanted to join the United States Army. This is when an old friend contacted Jeremy and made him promise to go back into the NFL and earn his fourth season, so that  Jeremy would be a vested player with the NFL and earn his retirement from the NFL, that friend was Pat Tillman. In the spring of 2002, Jeremy once again stepped back in to the realm of the NFL and signed on with the Oakland Raiders as an offensive guard and was released in August of 2002, Jeremy would sit out the entire 2002 season and once again would sign with a different NFL team. In 2003, Jeremy signed on with the St. Louis Rams and finally earned his fourth season in the NFL and had qualified for his NFL pension.  In 2004, Jeremy decided that after he had earned one retirement from professional athletics he should go and earn a second retirement from the Arena Football League (AFL), so in the spring of 2004 Jeremy signed on with the Los Angeles Avengers and played several games with the Avengers before hearing about the passing of his former teammate and friend Pat Tillman.  Jeremy then retired completely from professional athletics and decided to answer the call of serving his country and decided to join the United States Marine Corps. At this point he was willing to risk it all.  In 2005, Jeremy decided that it was time for him to fulfill his commitment to his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and entered boot camp in December of 2005.  Jeremy entered the Marine Corps 10 years older than the average recruit. Jeremy completed his 13-week Marine Corps Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego (MCRD). He graduated on the same Parade Ground as did his grandfather, Herman Francis Staat, in 1941. He was then stationed with 1/3 Bravo Company of Kaneohe Bay, HI, as an Infantry Machine gunner (0331). In 2007, the 1/3 Battalion was deployed, and Jeremy found himself assigned to Haditha, Iraq for a nine-month deployment. After returning from deployment in Haditha, Iraq; Jeremy had some medical issues that needed to be addressed and was never returned to his infantry unit. In his final years with the Marine Corps Jeremy had been giving advice to Marines that were being discharged and encouraged them to get their education but realizing that he himself hadn’t finished his bachelor’s degree. Jeremy decided to return to school during his final year in the Marine Corps and earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in liberal studies.  (I can’t Praise the Arizona State University staff and its’ President high enough for their efforts to make this happen) Jeremy was discharged from Marine Corps in August of 2009. After being discharged from the Marine Corps Jeremy moved back home to Bakersfield, CA and married his fiancéé Janelle Hamilton; he began to work with local charities within the community and wanted to continue to serve and to help others. In 2010, Jeremy joined up with many local and national Veterans Organizations like: The Veteran Tickets foundation, Kern County Honor Flight, Vision 2 Victory, and Kern Vets, “Wall of Valor,” and begun to do multiple speaking engagements to help bring awareness to the different non-profits that he was helping out. In 2011 Jeremy decided to start his own foundation that focused on bringing a Veteran speaking board into the educational environment, to inspire and motivate students to do their best. After speaking to more than 150 plus schools in Kern County, California and Arizona; Jeremy then decided that it was time to take his message nationwide. In the winter of 2012, Jeremy and his team conducted a 3,468-mile cross country bicycle ride that, visited 78 cities in 16 states, focused on bring awareness to the epidemic of veteran suicide and childhood obesity.  The Wall to Wall Cross Country Bicycle Ride stated at the Wall of Valor in Bakersfield, California and traveled east across the country and ended at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. After returning home from his cross-country endeavor Jeremy was welcomed home by the birth of his first child, a boy, that he and his wife named Tristen. After the birth of Tristen, Jeremy continued to work with his foundation and continued to deliver hundreds more motivational and inspirational speeches to schools and businesses. For his efforts, he was named the 2011 Military Order of the Purple Heart Veteran of the Year, the 2013 All Sports United Humanitarian Recipient, 2013 Beautiful Bakersfield Humanitarian of the Year Recipient, and was a 2014 Bakersfield High School Football Hall of Fame Inductee.  In 2013, Jeremy decided that he wanted to have a more stable lifestyle and decided to progress into the educational field and desired to start a trade school focusing on welding. Jeremy enrolled in classes at Bakersfield College to earn his welding degree and welding certifications; along the way, decided to apply for a job at Bakersfield College and in 2013 he began teaching full time as a welding instructor at Bakersfield College. In 2015, Jeremy and his wife welcomed their second son, Gavin. Jeremy then decided it was a must that he continued his education and began to pursue his graduate degrees. In 2016, he earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Liberty University, and then decided that he needed to earn his Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) from Liberty University as well. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) degree. He plans on completing his Ed.D in the summer of 2020. In the spring of 2020, Jeremy will be inducted into the Museum of the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame wing that is to be open in the spring of 2020.  Education:  -Bakersfield High School- Diploma -Bakersfield College- AA- Criminal Justice -Arizona State University-BA- Liberal Studies -Liberty University- MA- Educational Leadership -Liberty University-Ed.S.- Educational Leadership -Liberty University-Ed.D.- Educational Leadership (2020)  Athletic Awards:  High School:  Football:  -1994 graduate of Bakersfield High School, Bakersfield, Calif., - 2 sport participant, lettering four times in football and three times in track. -Captained the football team in 1993. -2 time all-Area/all-South Yosemite League first-team in football. -Named best lineman South Yosemite League. -Named lineman of the year by The Bakersfield Californian. -California all-State honorable mention -Named as left tackle to the Shrine California North/South All-Star football game  Track and Field (Shot put and Discus):  -Captained the track team in 1993-94 -most improved player award -Most Valuable Player in the South Yosemite -South Yosemite League champion in the shot put and discus in 1992-93 -Athlete of the Year by The Bakersfield Californian in 1993-1994 -1994 California State C.I.F. Episode 40: Aaron Pettigrew Discusses His Candidacy for U.S. Senate in Tennessee

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 5, 2019 31:52

Bio for Aaron L. Pettigrew, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Tennessee   Birth: June 23rd, 1975, Honolulu, HI.   Home town: Sinclair, Wyoming.   Education: High school graduation, 1993, Rawlins High School, Rawlins, Wyoming. Self-educated beyond that.   Military:  I did try to serve in the U.S. Army but I turned out to be one of those people that have physical problems because of being flat footed and was EPTS medically discharged, status General, at the beginning of basic training during a bottleneck from training class cuts in 1993. My MOS would have been 11B, infantry.  I found out the hard way during PT runs while waiting and was sent home from Fort Benning.   Work experience:  Starting at age 10, I mowed lawns, shoveled sidewalks and babysat as was able. I also did some spot work at cattle ranches on occasion, riding fence and the like. At 16, I also started work as a dishwasher. I did some other restaurant work and various spot jobs into early adulthood. After my discharge, I did several things for a while trying to make a new plan for my life, had a union job for a while in Ohio and moved to Tennessee shortly after I turned 21, ran vending machines for a while and made my first try at business as a contracted courier for a year. After that I tried a few things including microfilm, a truck stop shop and did temp work for Metro Water in Nashville. I returned home to help mom and grandma, working at a truck stop, then in April, 2004 went to truck driving school in Salt Lake City. A year after that, I made my second attempt at business as an owner operator, 10 months later someone hit my truck so I started driving for Sinclair Oil in Sinclair, Wyoming which is where my education in laws and regulations really began as the terminal safety supervisor and working a vac-truck with the refinery’s EPA rep.  When mom didn’t need me home anymore, I returned to Tennessee and drove for Crete Carrier, then got back into business as an owner operator again, this time successfully for four years. During that time was the event that made me consider running for office the first time.  Between that and some issues with the truck as it approached a million miles, I chose to return to being a company driver and during the 2018 campaign started working for the company I drive for now.  Throughout my life, I have also volunteered to help in hardship situations such as the tornado that hit Nashville in 98, I think that was the year. Because of work and losing my own vehicle in it, I wasn’t able to help in the 2010 flood though.   Politics:  My first exposure to politics was President Ronald Reagan, on the news and on TV shows like Johnnie Carson.  I watched his first inauguration in Kindergarten and watched the news coverage of the shot that hit Brady in school as well. My parents and grandparents didn’t really talk about politics much but my dad and grandpa did watch the news. As a young kid, I liked his sense of humor and growing up, I started seeing how things he said make sense. After that he left office my next exposure to political talk was catching the Rush Limbaugh TV show after school, I don’t remember if it was live or a replay but he made sense to me as well. Like most teenagers, I didn’t have much interest in it but I paid attention enough to know that the Federal Government wasn’t doing things the way the Constitution says and slowly learned more over the years. I was excited over Ross Perot for many of the same reasons I support Trump now but wasn’t old enough to vote yet.  As a young adult I was an independent but tended to vote for Republicans.  I had voted for a Democrat in a couple local elections but I knew him personally. I’d missed some votes but I was already cynical about politicians even then. One election when I was in Nashville the first time, I didn’t think to vote and that was the first time I heard the expression that if you don’t vote, you have no right to complain and I started paying a lot more attention to it.  Some votes I left alone because I didn’t know anything about the candidates or the position but as I learned more, I started filling in more boxes.  When I started driving, I gravitated to Conservative Talk Radio because what hosts like Rush, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin were saying just made sense to me and it allowed me to stay generally informed and kept my mind active. Eventually I started reading the books and articles they were talking about as well.  Then, I found satellite radio and found Sirius Talk Right which eventually became SXM Patriot. The first few years, there was a Catholic, Libertarian host in the morning that really got me interested in studying the Constitution and history surrounding it.  I must interject that my family had always been Liberty loving and 2nd Amendment supporting people, I was the same.  About 6 ½, 7 years ago, after one of the infamous shootings, Senator Alexander pushed for a gun control vote and having a deeper understanding of the Constitution, that angered me, I had also tried volunteering my transportation knowledge with Alexander, Corker and Desjarlais but only got 2 form emails and ignored by Alexander in response, which didn’t help my opinion of either of them.  After that, I said that if I don’t start seeing Constitutional candidates, I would run for office.  Over the next couple years, I started studying all of the offices in my political “chain of command” and compared them to my beliefs and my abilities.  Because of the basis of my knowledge, I chose to run for the U.S. Senate.  I don’t really fit in State and Local Government because in those issues and responsibilities, I believe there are people better suited, at least for now but on the big picture, U.S. Constitutional issues, I was already very well versed.  Looking at the different responsibilities in Article 1, sections 2 and 3, the Senate was clearly the better fit for me. Since then, I have spent almost all of my time off work, including my relaxing time at night studying to serve well.   Constitutional and political reading that I’ve done: The surviving records of the Constitutional Convention Eliot’s Debates, which are the ratification debates coupled with everything I could find on the Amendment ratification debates of all the Constitutional Amendments.   Blackstone’s Commentaries, The Magna Carta, English translations of Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, and historical accounts of England, Greece and Rome that the framers relied heavily on to develop the Constitution.  Now, I don’t have it all memorized but I can find my way around all of it to use when necessary. I’ve also studied quite a bit from various published works from people who have served in both chambers of Congress and even read the entire U.S. Code and the rules of the Senate.  Again, I don’t have it all memorized but I can search my way through it and understand it well enough to use it for the duties of the office.   I’ve read the works of others, Locke, de Tocqueville, the Federalist and Anti-federalist papers, Common Sense, Patrick Henry, Bastiat and more.  I have also studied various free market forms of economics and I lean toward Austrian.   I have also studied many of the economic and governmental systems we conservatives are trying to fight against here in the United States, such as Socialism, Communism, Maoism and Keynesian economics so I can hold my own when arguing against them.   Affiliations:  I am a life member of the NRA and the Tennessee Firearms Association. A member of my County GOP and the 917 Society which gives Constitutions to 8th graders in Tennessee and is trying to expand past Tennessee next year.  Through Social Media, I am affiliated with The Constitutional Grassroots Movement (not endorsed,) Constitutional Patriots (conpats.com, endorsed,) the Paleolibertarian Coalition (endorsed,) III% Republic, the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans and other Constitutional, conservative, pro-Trump, gun rights and trucker groups.   Pledges I have taken:  Americans for Tax Reform, although I need to sign a new one for this cycle.  U.S. Term Limits.  ConPats (also in affiliations) 10-point pledge.  Oath Keepers, even though that is more for Sheriffs and local Government officials, I still agree with it in principle.  There was another Term Limits group last year as well.  A pledge to support the Life At Conception Act and other pro-life legislation or Amendments. A pledge to support building the wall and to end chain migration and the VISA lottery.   Campaign slogan: Nothing’s going to change until WE THE PEOPLE change it!   Stated political platform: Read the entire Constitution, including all the Amendments, think of all the things the Federal Government does that is NOT in there, then go back and read the 9th and 10th Amendments again. That IS my platform.   Website: http://aaronpettigrewfortennessee.com

About Tom Norton I am a family man. My wife, Jami, and I have three children aged 10, 9, and 7. I am a veteran of the Afghan War and have stood with my fellow veterans since we have returned. I have focused on suicide prevention, leading an American Legion post to greater growth, and helping to found the West Michigan Veterans’ Ranch.  The line has been drawn in the sand. It is our time to choose and the choice is clear. We won’t surrender our allies, our borders, or our rights as citizens to non-legal residents. We need a wall to stop drugs from coming across our borders. Our benefits as citizens must go to Americans first. We must show courage for our allies and the Red, white, and blue.  I am Tom Norton. Our time for choosing is here. It is time for us to stand strong for our district and America. Our country is great, her best days are ahead of, not behind her. I’ve got your back. Together, we can stand strong for America and have hers.  Website: https://www.facebook.com/tomnortonusa/ Twitter: @fornorton Parlor: @norton4congress

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Allen B. West is a Christian constitutional conservative, combat veteran, and former member of the US Congress. His life has been defined as one of service, sacrifice, and commitment to this Republic, the United States of America. He believes it will be conservative, free-market policies — not politics — that secure a sound economic future for Americans – with growth, opportunity and returning the promise of the American dream for this generation and those to come. Allen West was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia in the same neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once preached. He is the third of four generations of military servicemen, all combat veterans, in his family. West was commissioned through ROTC at the University of Tennessee as a Second Lieutenant (2LT) on July 31, 1982. He entered active duty service in the U.S. Army on November 1, 1983, at Fort Sill to attend the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course. He later attended airborne and jumpmaster training at Fort Benning. West’s first assignment was as an airborne infantry company fire support team leader and battalion training officer in the 325th Airborne Battalion Combat Team. In 1987, he was promoted to Captain and attended the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course. He was then assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, where he commanded Bravo Battery, 6th Field Artillery Regiment and was a Battalion Task Force fire support officer for 2d Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. While with the 1st Infantry Division, he participated in Operations Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. After redeployment from Kuwait, West served as an ROTC instructor at Kansas State University from 1991 to 1994. In January 1995, he was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division Support Command as the Assistant Operations/Combat Plans Officer. During that time, West was promoted to Major and selected for attendance to the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and graduated in 1997. Afterward, he became the Operations Officer of the 18th Field Artillery Brigade (Airborne), followed by assignment as the Executive Officer of the 1st Battalion (Air Assault), 377th Field Artillery Regiment. Upon completion of these positions, West was assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Lejeune, and selected to serve as an Army exchange officer to this headquarters from 1999 to 2002. West’s culminating assignment to his career was as Battalion Commander of the 2d Battalion 20th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division. He assumed command of this unit on June 6, 2002. He deployed with his unit during the Iraq War in 2003 and continued to command his battalion until his retirement from the Army in 2004 after 22 years of honorable service in defense of the Republic. West’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters, one Valor Device); Army Achievement Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters); Valorous Unit Award; Air Assault Badge; and the Master Parachutist Badge.  Lt Col West proudly wears the Army Master Parachutist Badge, the Army Air Assault Badge, the Navy/Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia, the Italian Parachutist Wings, and the German Proficiency Badge, bronze award. After his retirement from the Army in 2004, Allen taught high school in South Florida for a year before volunteering and deploying to Afghanistan as a civilian military adviser to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007. In November of 2010, Allen was honored to continue his oath of service to his country when he was elected to the United States Congress, representing Florida’s 22nd District. As a member of the 112th Congress, West introduced seven major pieces of legislation, and was the original sponsor of H. R. 1246 which reduces costs at the Department of Defense, which passed unanimously (393-0), and signed into law by President Obama as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.  Congressman West voted for the Balanced Budget Amendment and voted for over 30 different bills designed to empower small businesses, reduce government barriers to job creation, boost American competitiveness, encourage entrepreneurship and growth, and maximize American energy production. West holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and two Masters, one from Kansas State University, and another from the US Army Command and General Staff Officers College. He is a Fox News Contributor, Director of the Booker T. Washington Initiative at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Senior Fellow at the Media Research Center, contributing columnist for Townhall.com, and author of Guardian of the Republic: An American Ronin’s Journey to Family, Faith and Freedom. His second book, Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death, was released in the fall of 2018 from Brown Books Publishing Group. He is the former Executive Director of the National Center for Policy Analysis in Dallas, Texas. West is an avid distance runner, a Master SCUBA diver, a motorcyclist, and, in his spare time, he enjoys cheering his beloved Tennessee Volunteers. Lt. Col. West is a legacy life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of the American Legion, life member of the Association of the United States Army and the Society of the First Infantry Division, Patriot Life Member (Benefactor) and Board of Directors member of the National Rifle Association. Lieutenant Colonel West is an inductee into the University of Tennessee Army ROTC Hall of Fame. He is on the Board of Advisors of Amegy Bank, Dallas Region. In 2016, Lt. Col. West was appointed by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
