Words have power! Words create worlds! Change your words, change your life! Words create our reality! Prolific author and journalist, Rosally Saltsman speaks to us about the power of positive speech. She explains how we can use words to build and also to destroy. We talk about the power of speech when it comes to parenting children. Children build their identity based on what we say to them and how we speak to them. When we speak, we need to be less critical and less judgemental. Instead, we need to focus on the positive aspects of the child (or adult), and use our words to express that positivity. The positive words that we use in our home have the power to uplift and lighten up the atmosphere, making life more enjoyable for all. Conversely, we have the power to traumatize children (and adults too) with the words that we use. We need to be aware of the fact that our words have a very powerful affect on others. Rosally and I also spoke about the effect of positive and negative self-talk. The way we speak to ourselves is just as important as the way we speak to others. We will get more out of ourselves if we speak to ourselves in a loving way. Rosally shared a beautiful story about how she was able to transform a grumpy janitor into a happy, vibrant person, simply using her words--it's a great story! Rosally has a wonderful What's App group with daily inspiration in Shemirat Halashon (the laws of speech.) I personally am part of the group and enjoy it very much. On this episode of Unscripted, I'm bringing you, a fellow former hairstylist, Katy Saltsman, and we talk about all things personal growth, entrepreneurship, and overcoming obstacles. Both of us came from the beauty industry, where we hustled behind the chair and left our health on the back burner. Watching so many people do this, inspired Katy to pivot into helping women master their health. She emphasizes here, the importance of filling gaps in the industry and how pivotal decisions can lead to entirely different life paths. Listen in as Katy opens up about her personal journey of healing and growth after leaving an abusive relationship and relocating to Colorado. It's such an inspiring story of self-discovery, taking risks, and embracing change for personal happiness and growth. Our conversation goes deeper into friendship, networking, and prioritizing energy. We can't stress enough the value of putting ourselves in new environments to expand in life and business. And, we both also share a love for Podcasting! Katy shares the origin of her podcast, "Crying Burns Calories”. My guest today is Katy Saltsman! As a nutrition coach and personal trainer, she has now helped hundreds of other women just like you hit their goals, ditch diets forever, and get results that last. She truly believes that you DO have the power to take charge of your goals and get the results you want.  Here are three key takeaways from this episode: The power of connections: Katie and I discussed how creating genuine connections can have a huge impact on both personal and business growth. It's not just about networking, but also about investing in mentorship and surrounding yourself with people who inspire you. Finding your passion: We talked about the importance of taking time away from social media and diving deep into what truly lights you up. By discovering what you love and the impact you want to make in the world, you can truly take off and find your place in your industry. The value of investing: Katie shared her own experiences with investing in business coaches and the lessons she learned along the way. It's not always about the immediate return on investment, but rather the growth and evolution that comes from taking those steps to invest in yourself and your business. I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did! One Last Mile is a fictional story of a talented but slightly arrogant high school track athlete named Eric who was certain he would be snagging a scholarship spot at any University he chose. He routinely won races but didn't always take his coaches directives seriously.mIn his senior year everything changed after an accident that left Eric with a broken ankle, and haunting images of his friend Buzzy's death. Buzzy was intellectually handicapped and Eric felt responsible for his death even though Buzzy was not supposed to have followed him into that abandoned home. Overcome with guilt, Eric left his home town of Brevard after his graduation to stay with his uncle for the summer. The summer turned into 2 years, and Eric didn't make any effort to keep in touch with his best friend Mary, or any of his other friends and running team mates. Although he was told that he may not run again after the accident, his doctor ended up clearing Eric for running, but told him to take things slow and didn't think that high level running would be possible again. Eric finally went back home to Brevard but realized that he had a lot of work to do to get his friends back, as well as any potential for a scholarship. Roger Saltsman in a first-time author and former distance runner at Brevard College from 1979-1981. This week on Yes But Why, we talk to theater artist and comedy writer, Aaron Garrett. Aaron Garrett is a writer and lighting designer by inclination (and a producer/director/actor by necessity) based in Houston, Texas. He has a passion for pushing the cultural boundaries of sketch comedy and in 2012 founded Be Kind To Strangers, currently Houston's longest running sketch comedy troupe. In 2014 he founded the semi-improvised Magical Lying Hour which (when possible) travels frequently in the U.S. and beyond. In 2017 he merged his projects into Pronoia Theater, which now focuses on original scripted and improv comedy. In our conversation, Aaron and I get into a heated discussion about improv and sketch. He has strong opinions and we talk it all out. Challenge is the theme of this episode. Aaron likes to be challenged. I oblige.Aaron shares some great stories about the theater community at his alma mater, Rice University. We talk about college and the opportunities we had. Alongside past guest Steven M. Saltsman, Aaron now runs the Pronoia Theater. We talk about writing and directing and all the little details that go into running a theater that you don’t think about. This was a great discussion. Very spirited. Support Aaron by watching his improv show, Magical Lying Hour, online (and maybe soon in person). Check out Aaron and Steven’s collaboration, the online sitcom, Space Train. A proper send off for Barack Hussein Obama - in his own words no less Old Guard Audio bids adieu to Barack Hussein Obama with a compilation of his own words, and a parody song from Rush Limbaugh listen to the end and you will hear the Rush Limbaugh parody song.  A proper send off for Barack Hussein Obama. We should remember his legacy, his glorifying of radical Islam, the murderous Muslims. The only thing he left out in this montage, was how well they sharpen their swords to cut off the heads. It would be remissful, and exceeding remorseful if I did not give Barack Hussein Obama a proper send-off.  We have endured the sorriest not to mention the most narcissistic man that has ever occupied the Whitehouse, thank you America for voting in a true American, who will begin the restoration process to bring this country back to normal.   Yes, Donald Trump will launch a time of economic prosperity that this country sorely needs. He will heal the divide caused by Barack Hussein Obama, the greatest divider this country has ever witnessed.    Maybe now that Barack Hussein Obama is gone, Al Sharpton can start making some walking around money, some folding money. In March 2007, American critic David Ehrenstein used the title "Obama the 'Magic Negro'" for an editorial he wrote for the Los Angeles Times, in which he described Barack Obama's image in white American culture: "He's there to assuage white 'guilt' (i.e., the minimal discomfort they feel) over the role of slavery and racial segregation in American history, while replacing stereotypes of a dangerous, highly sexualized black man with a benign figure for whom interracial sexual congress holds no interest ... The only mud that momentarily stuck was criticism (white and black alike) concerning Obama's alleged 'inauthenticty', as compared to such sterling examples of "genuine" blackness as Al Sharpton and Snoop Dogg. ... Obama's fame right now has little to do with his political record ... Like a comic-book superhero, Obama is there to help, out of the sheer goodness of a heart we need not know or understand. For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes. If he were real, white America couldn't project all its fantasies of curative black benevolence on him."[14] Rush Limbaugh began discussing Ehrenstein's op ed on the day it was published. He cast Ehrenstein's column as criticizing Obama himself for not being authentic or black enough: "The problem, Ehrenstein says, is he's not real. Al Sharpton's real, Snoop Dogg is real, but Barack Obama is not real. He's just there to assuage white guilt. In other words, the only reason Obama is anywhere is because whites are willing to support him because they feel so guilty over slavery." He described the column as an example of the "racism of the left". He said, "The term 'Magic Negro' has been thrown into the political presidential race in the mix for 2008" and said he would "own" the term by the end of the week. He briefly sang the words "Barack the magic negro" to the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon".[15][16] Shortly after that Paul Shanklin recorded a song about Barack the Magic Negro set to that same tune, which Limbaugh played numerous times throughout the 2008 presidential election season.[17] In Christmas 2008, Chip Saltsman, a Republican politician and chair of the Tennessee Republican Party, sent a 41-track CD containing the song to members of the Republican National Committee during the Republican National Committee chairmanship election.[18][19] Saltsman's campaign imploded as a result of the controversy caused by the CD, and he withdrew from the race,[20][21] and Michael Steele, an African American, was elected.[22] In September 2012, an article in Time by cultural critic and TV personality Touré on the re-election of Barack Obama said, "While some may think it complimentary to be considered 'magical', it is infantilizing and offensive because it suggests black excellence is so shocking it can only come from a source that is supernatural."[23] In May 2015, theater and cultural critic Frank Rich, looking back at the coincidence of the 2015 Baltimore protests with the annual White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, DC, wrote: "What made this particular instance poignant was the presence in the ballroom of our first African-American president, the Magic Negro who was somehow expected to relieve a nation founded and built on slavery from the toxic burdens of centuries of history."[24]
