Episode 73 welcomes London based DJ and booker @TobyNicholas, a longtime lover of dance music and a DJ in his own right, best known as one half of a duo with @HamishCole. Toby has seen every aspect of club culture, both the good and the bad. After stints in Leeds and Manchester, where he cut his teeth as a founding member of the cult party series Dog Eat Dog, he started working for London venue @picklefactorylondon when it launched as a sister site to the now defunct Oval Space in 2014. Balancing his creative life as a DJ with the challenges of booking a small, headsy nightclub in Bethnal Green has been an uphill battle for Toby, especially as the nightlife industry in London continues to fight for its life amidst rising costs and reduced spending. In this episode, we look back at Toby's early days as a raver and finding his place in the music industry as both as DJ and a booker, the trials and tribulations of the London nightlife scene, and his favourite memories of the club he devoted nearly a decade of his life to. ++ Music: Glowing Glisses - "On The Bridge (Larry Heards After Dark Dub Mix)" North Avenue - "Solutions (Instrumental)" Ross Couch - "Groove On (Original Mix)" ++ FOLLOW AIR: Instagram: www.instagram.com/_airpodcast/ Patreon: www.patreon.com/airpodcast Substack: airpodcast.substack.com/

Well, kind of! I was invited to a #jazz concert. The cover band were covering the fabulous #NinaSimone! Don't forget to follow me on your favorite social media: https://linktr.ee/angelakayaustinIn case you didn't know, I played the clarinet and saxophone for about twenty years. (No, I cannot still play, but my beautiful niece has picked up where I left off!) That being said, I love music, and #jazz is one of my favorites. Literally, I turn it on when I wake in the morning and it eases me into the world! With the change in the rules around #lockdown and #COVID, this was my first post-lockdown muical event. And it was worth the wait. The band covered Nina Simone's "I Feel Good," "Sinnerman," "My Baby Just Cares For Me," "Misunderstood," "Mississippi GodDamn," and other favs! To view this video, visit my #YouTube channel!#OvalSpace was new to me, but I would definitely visit again. The staff were friendly and the venue was quaint. I will definitely visit again!!

Fred Peterkin is a man of many names; best known for his work as Fred P he also releases under Black Jazz Consortium, FP-Oner, FP197, Anomaly, the list goes on. But no matter what name he picks for each project there's an unmistakable sound that runs across all his work, and that sound is born from a passionate and unending dedication to underground house music. Hailing from New York City Peterkin has released an impressive number of records over the past decade working with labels like Jus Ed's Underground Quality and Mule Music alongside his own imprint – Soul People Music. And, while his style is deeply rooted in house music, he is by no means limited to the genre. As well as producing, he's also a natural DJ who blends expertly applied craft with a simple musical intuition that can't be taught. With an album under his Adventures of Captain P moniker dropping soon, and him passing through London to play Oval Space, we jumped at the chance to meet up with him in his hotel room and find out what makes him tick. Listen to the podcast, brought to you courtesy of Rode microphones whom without this would never have been possible...
Next up in our Monday series is an edition which sits close to our hearts, in fact, it sits so damn that it might as well be inside them. Ally is behind the Tropical party series which take place in both Glasgow and London and has seen the likes of Telephones, Marcellus Pittman, Tolouse Low Trax, Samo DJ, Wolf Muller and many more all play. Now based in London the past twelve months have seen him make appearances at Brilliant Corners, Dance Tunnel, and Oval Space alongside international excursions where he appeared as part of the Off Sonar party programme and in Greece. This mix sees a rejection of dancefloor orientated music and allows Ally to dig deeper into the depths of obscurity featuring music from the likes of Blackest Ever Black, Robbie Basho, Udacha, Vangelis Katsoulis and more. There is also forthcoming music on Optimo and Antinote buried deep within the mix. From our editor here at Ransom Note to your headphones...
To celebrate the 10th edition of our weekly podcast we have teamed up with @thump to present an exclusive mix by British electronic royalty, A Guy Called Gerald, in anticipation of his headline appearance at Manana Festival in Cuba this May. Scroll down to see what he had to say about the mix. See Gerald Live at Oval Space 17th April: http://bit.ly/1R7YAdT Join us at Manana 2016: http://www.mananacuba.com/overview Join us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/manana.cu ++ How and where was the mix recorded? ++ It was recorded at my studio using other people's music. ++ What was the idea behind the mix? ++ The idea was to have bass orientated theme but with a melodic flow. ++ How (if in any way) is the mix influenced by Cuba? ++ Most of the melodies I picked I feel have a latin flavour to them. ++ What excites you most about the journey to Santiago? ++ I'm looking forward to going somewhere on the planet that is not American influenced. I grew up listening to Mongo Santamaria. Cuba is just across the way from where my parents come from: Jamaica. I think there are deep ties throughout the Caribbean. I'm sorry I'm not a religious person but I'm into deeper feelings. I'm going there to taste the spirit. The musicians I've heard are unbelievably talented and I believe I have something to share. ++ Are you going to be preparing for the trip in any way? ++ Yes, I'm bringing all my music, ready to jam.
Radio Slave Sits Down For the Debut of Rave Curious Joshua Glazer sits down for an extended and honest conversation with Berlin's finest, Radio Slave. What are we curious about? Is it electronic music and culture? The magic we feel on the dancefloor? The sweet sound of the bass pulsating through or headphones or the club's thunderous system? And how do we satisfy that curiosity and endless thirst? By talking to some of the DJs, producers, and promoters who drive the electronic music scene year after year, decade after decade, of course! In our new podcast Rave Curious, veteran music journalist Joshua Glazer sits down with key players in the electronic music community for an extended and honest conversation about life in and out of the club, tracing their inspirations, biggest conquests, and greatest setbacks. In Episode 001 of the new series—Joshua sits down for an intimate conversation with Matt Edwards, the Berlin-based producer behind Radio Slave. Throughout his prolific career, Edwards has released everything from mind-expanding marathon remixes to dynamic tech house under his main moniker, and effervescent, syrupy house workouts under his Rekid alias, which takes it name from the label Edwards founded and runs, Rekids. On top of that, he's a tentpole of the clubbing world, with masterful sets at Panorama Bar, Oval Space, Ibiza, and just about every room you might want to cut loose in.
