Happy Potluck Saturday, Heal Squad. Today's dish comes courtesy of candy bars, wrestling legends, and an unexpected lesson about intelligence, performance, and vision. Kev and Anne start with Milky Ways, Three Musketeers, Jawbreakers, and the eternal bar vs. box candy debate… and somehow lands on Captain Lou Albano, entertainment psychology, and why the people who change culture are often misunderstood while they're doing it. A look at character versus chaos, insecurity versus strategy, and how larger-than-life personas are sometimes built as armor, not ego. Including stories about wrestling, Cyndi Lauper, Rock 'n Wrestling, Hollywood gatekeepers, and why so many great ideas get dismissed simply because they arrive before people are ready to see them. A reminder that vision often looks messy, confidence often masks fear, and the most interesting people are usually the ones who don't fit neatly into anyone else's box. Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the most misunderstood movies in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe—and with the benefit of hindsight, it's aged far better than anyone expected. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, I take a deep dive into why Age of Ultron works as a crucial bridge between the early Avengers era and the eventual end of the Infinity Saga. From Tony Stark's darkest compulsions and the creation of Ultron, to the introduction of Wanda Maximoff, the loss that defines her, and the quiet foreshadowing hidden in Vision's final conversation with Ultron—this movie was doing far more groundwork than we realized at the time. We talk Sokovia, consequences, the seeds of Civil War, Hawkeye's importance, the Avengers at their absolute peak, and why this film feels richer and heavier when viewed through everything that comes after it. If you want to support the show, Patreon is always appreciated (with flexibility when needed), and there's also a tip jar if you'd like to toss support the show's way—never expected, always grateful. You can also hang out with me live on Twitch at twitch.tv/MrHon3st (that's Mr H-O-N-3-S-T — a 3 instead of the E) where I stream Marvel's Spider-Man and other games three days a week. When PDA Drives ARFID: Understanding Food Refusal, Control, & Safety

Dr. Marianne-Land: An Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast

When ARFID is shaped by a PDA profile, eating challenges are not simply about sensory preferences, fear foods, or appetite. PDA, or a pervasive drive for autonomy, means the nervous system experiences demands as threats. Even gentle encouragement around eating can trigger shutdown, panic, or refusal. In this episode, Dr. Marianne Miller explains why PDA fundamentally changes how ARFID shows up and why traditional explanations often miss what is really happening beneath the surface. Food Refusal Is a Nervous System Safety Response Food refusal in PDA-driven ARFID is not defiance or manipulation. It is a protective response rooted in survival. When autonomy feels compromised, refusal becomes the fastest way to restore safety. This episode reframes refusal as communication and explores how control is not the goal, but a tool the nervous system uses to stay regulated. How Eating Becomes a Threat Instead of Nourishment For PDA nervous systems, eating can shift from a neutral or pleasurable act into a moment of danger. Being observed, reminded, praised, or monitored can turn food into a demand. Dr. Marianne breaks down how this happens in both children and adults with ARFID, and why eating often becomes harder the more support is applied. Case Examples of PDA and ARFID Across the Lifespan This episode includes clinical case examples that illustrate how PDA-driven ARFID can look very different on the surface while operating from the same nervous system logic. One example focuses on a child who eats until attention is placed on them. Another highlights an adult who deeply wants recovery but feels trapped by structured treatment approaches. These examples help clarify why motivation alone does not resolve PDA-related eating challenges. Why Traditional ARFID Treatment Often Fails PDA Nervous Systems Many standard ARFID interventions rely on structure, goals, exposure, and accountability. For PDA profiles, these tools can unintentionally increase threat and shutdown. Dr. Marianne explains why treatment plans that ignore autonomy often backfire and how mislabeling this response as resistance can cause harm. What Actually Supports PDA-Affirming ARFID Care Supportive care for PDA and ARFID prioritizes safety, consent, and flexibility. This does not mean removing all structure, but changing how structure functions. The episode explores what real choice looks like, why opt-out options matter, and how slowing down can create conditions where eating feels safer over time. A Neurodivergent-Affirming Reframe for Caregivers and Adults If ARFID has felt impossible to “fix,” this episode offers a compassionate reframe. PDA-driven eating challenges are not failures of willpower or commitment. They reflect a nervous system doing its best to survive. Understanding this opens the door to approaches that are more humane, effective, and sustainable. Wendy Pease sits down with global marketing strategist Jen Faucon, whose career spans major agencies and multinational brands. She now works at the intersection of global business, public policy, and sustainable development. Jen's core message is simple (and surprisingly tactical): great global marketing isn't about giant budgets. It's about smart strategy, cultural precision, and building systems that let local markets tell you when your “great idea” will backfire. You'll learn: How Nestlé successfully introduced coffee in a tea-drinking country by shifting consumer behavior to a new moment of the day and using a simple Try → Share → Buy framework instead of expensive mass media. Why translation is a strategic and cultural risk decision, not a tactical task, including how colloquialisms, imagery, and language choices can either build trust or get a brand banned from advertising in a market. How global brands like Microsoft adapt one core idea across dozens of markets by keeping the strategy consistent while allowing local teams to change copy, visuals, humor, and layout to fit cultural norms.

A new year has arrived, and with it comes a fresh wave of hot takes, bold predictions, and "can't miss" investing ideas. Joe Saul-Sehy and OG step back from the noise to discuss what clearly doesn't work and then to focus on what actually helps you build wealth in 2026 and beyond. Rather than chasing hot trends, they revisit the timeless rules that have quietly done the heavy lifting through every market cycle. Why diversification still matters even when it feels boring. Why IPO hype and speculative real estate deals often disappoint. How consistency beats cleverness far more often than most people expect. From there, the conversation shifts into a practical framework Stackers can use no matter what the market throws their way. Joe and OG walk through the proper order of investing decisions: start with clear goals, build the right asset allocation, choose appropriate asset selections, and then layer in tax strategy. By putting taxes in the right place (after the big structural decisions), they explain how to improve outcomes without letting tax avoidance distort the entire plan. The episode also digs into real-world traps that tend to surface when uncertainty rises. Real estate crowdfunding. Penny stock temptation. Misunderstood property tax increases. The guys break down where people get tripped up and how to protect yourself without becoming overly cautious or frozen by fear. Just as important, Joe and OG explore the difference between luck and skill in investing stories. If you've ever felt behind because someone else's risky move worked out, this discussion brings perspective and relief by reminding Stackers what sustainable progress actually looks like. What You'll Learn: • Why timeless investing principles matter more than 2026 predictions • How diversification truly reduces risk and where people misuse it • The dangers of IPOs, penny stocks, and "exclusive" real estate deals • The correct order of smart investing decisions: goals first, asset allocation next, asset selection after that, tax strategy layered on last • How to think about tax efficiency without letting taxes drive the plan • What new homeowners often misunderstand about property taxes • How to spot luck masquerading as skill in investing success stories • Ways to stay confident and consistent when markets feel uncertain If you're looking to start 2026 grounded, informed, and focused on the moves that actually matter, this episode delivers a steady, practical roadmap without hype, fear, or shortcuts. Listen for the principles that hold up when markets misbehave and the small mistakes that quietly derail otherwise solid plans. This message explores how Jesus remained faithful in His relationships with family and friends—even when He was overlooked, misunderstood, and met with cultural expectations or a lack of honor. Through Luke, Mark, and John, we're invited to reflect on how pride, expectations, or the desire for approval may compete with simple obedience to God in our closest relationships.

From there, the episode becomes a guided tour through the gray area between knowing what's true and knowing what's useful. He revisits a frequent offender in the misinformation world: catalytic converter diagnostics, particularly the old “switch rate” concept, and why it's fundamentally flawed, even when it appears convincing on a scan tool. From there, Matt zooms out into bigger “how-the-universe-works” territory—magnetism, electric fields, and why some of the most fascinating truths about energy flow will probably never help you fix a car (but are still worth thinking about). The back half of the episode shifts into personal updates (family health), a few fun holiday questions (favorite Christmas movies), an unexpectedly intense movie rant (Thor's Endgame arc), and a grounded-but-honest take on the future of EVs and hybrids.Topics CoveredThe hardest balance in teaching and learning: accuracy vs. applicabilityWhy most misinformation in training/resources is usually unintentionalCatalytic converter misconceptions:Why “post-cat O2 switch rate” is a bad diagnostic foundationWhy scan tool graphs can mislead you even when they “look right”What really matters before condemning a converter (fuel control, exhaust leaks, sensor accuracy, updates, airflow modeling inputs)Why OEM catalyst monitoring relies on oxygen storage capacity (OSC)—and why it's not the same as true conversion efficiencyA brief detour into physics for the curious:Magnetism as an effect tied to moving charge (and why special relativity can explain part of it)The “energy comes from the field” idea—and why it's fascinating even if it doesn't help bay workEGR follow-up: throttling losses, flame speed, and thermal efficiencyPersonal Q&A: updates on Matt's dad's recovery and implanted defibrillator; Danielle's long recovery arcHoliday lightning round: favorite Christmas moviesMovie plot that frustrates Matt most: Thor from Ragnarok → Endgame (and why “Fat Thor” was mishandled)EV future: energy density limits, why hybrids may remain the practical middle ground, and where hydrogen might fitKey Takeaways“What looks true” on a scan tool isn't always what the monitor is actually judging.Catalyst diagnostics are more systems-based...

When Autonomy & Sensory Needs Drive ARFID: Why Pressure Fails & Choice Heals

Dr. Marianne-Land: An Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast

In this solo episode of Dr. Marianne Land, Dr. Marianne Miller explores one of the most overlooked drivers of Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID: the powerful intersection of autonomy and sensory needs. This episode unpacks why pressure based approaches consistently fail people with ARFID and how choice, consent, and nervous system safety create real pathways toward healing. Rather than framing ARFID as defiance or avoidance, this conversation centers ARFID as a protective response rooted in sensory overwhelm and a deep need for bodily autonomy. Why Autonomy Matters in ARFID For many neurodivergent people, autonomy is not optional. It is a core safety requirement. Dr. Marianne explains how pressure around food activates threat responses in the nervous system, often leading to shutdown, panic, or increased food avoidance. When autonomy gets removed through medical pressure, family conflict, or exposure approaches that override consent, ARFID symptoms often intensify. This episode reframes autonomy not as resistance, but as a stabilizing force that helps people survive overwhelming eating environments. Sensory Processing and Nervous System Safety Sensory sensitivity plays a central role in ARFID. Texture, smell, temperature, and unpredictability can trigger immediate nervous system distress. In this episode, Dr. Marianne explains how these sensory reactions are involuntary and protective, not behavioral choices. Safe foods become anchors that help regulate the nervous system, and honoring sensory needs becomes essential for sustainable eating disorder recovery. When sensory experiences are respected, the body no longer needs to protect itself through restriction. Why Pressure Fails and Choice Heals Pressure based interventions often backfire in ARFID treatment. Dr. Marianne explores how even well-intentioned encouragement can teach the nervous system that eating is unsafe. Pressure increases fear, deepens avoidance, and damages trust. In contrast, choice restores safety. When people with ARFID control the pace, timing, and nature of food exploration, curiosity becomes possible. Choice supports regulation, builds self-trust, and creates space for gentle expansion without retraumatization. A Neurodivergent-Affirming Approach to ARFID Recovery This episode highlights what ARFID care can look like when it centers consent, collaboration, and sensory attunement. Dr. Marianne discusses how liberation-centered treatment prioritizes nervous system regulation over compliance, honors lived experience, and rejects one-size-fits-all exposure models. Recovery becomes sustainable when dignity, agency, and sensory truth guide the process. Intersectionality, Identity, and Autonomy Autonomy carries different weight depending on lived experience. Dr. Marianne addresses how fat individuals, disabled individuals, neurodivergent people, and those with chronic illness often experience repeated violations of autonomy in medical and social settings. For many, eating becomes another site of control and harm. This episode situates ARFID within broader systems of stigma and explains why restoring autonomy is especially critical for people with marginalized identities. Mid-Episode Invitation During the episode, Dr. Marianne shares more about her self-paced ARFID and Selective Eating Course. The course offers neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed tools that support autonomy, sensory safety, and nervous system regulation. It is designed for individuals with ARFID, caregivers, and clinicians seeking a more compassionate and effective framework for healing. Who This Episode Is For This episode is for anyone living with ARFID, supporting someone with ARFID, or working professionally with eating disorders and neurodivergence. It is especially relevant for listeners who have felt harmed by pressure based treatment, misunderstood by providers, or blamed for sensory needs they cannot control. From becoming a £2m teenager at Arsenal to playing in a Champions League final with Liverpool, Pennant reflects on the highs, the lows, and the managers who either got the best out of him — or completely missed the mark. The lads also dig into dressing-room dynamics, the importance of man-management, why Steve Bruce got it right, why Rafa Benítez didn't, and how football ultimately became Jermaine's escape from childhood trauma. Diogenes wasn't a Stoic… but without him, the Stoics don't exist. His life was so bold, so uncompromising, and so brutally honest that it reshaped the entire philosophical world the Stoics inherited. In today's episode, Ryan sits down with classicist Inger Kuin to unpack the wild and brilliant philosophy of Diogenes, the original cynic. Inger Kuin is a researcher, writer, and teacher focused on the intellectual history of ancient Greece and Rome. She is Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Virginia. Originally from The Netherlands, she publishes both in English and in Dutch.
