In Episode 228 of the Pu'u Muay Thai Podcast, Jonathan Puu breaks down why Muay Thai in America is still widely misunderstood—even by people who think they know what it is.From being confused with kickboxing or cardio workouts to being seen as “too violent” or “only for fighters,” Muay Thai has often been introduced in the U.S. without its cultural, technical, and developmental context. As a result, many people miss out on what Muay Thai actually is—and what it can offer beyond fighting. In this episode, Jonathan explores:How Muay Thai was first introduced to American audiences through violence and highlight reelsWhy the fitness industry unintentionally stripped Muay Thai of its identityHow fighting became the only measure of legitimacy in the U.S.Why impatience and short-term thinking clash with Muay Thai's long-term natureThe difference between borrowing techniques and truly training the artWhat Muay Thai actually represents: discipline, regulation under pressure, humility, and communityDrawing from nearly two decades of experience as a student, fighter, coach, gym owner, promoter, and ring official, Jonathan explains why Muay Thai isn't struggling because it lacks value—but because it hasn't always been represented or explained properly. This episode is a call to protect the integrity of Muay Thai without watering it down, and to help more people understand it as a lifelong practice—not a phase, trend, or workout. If Muay Thai in America were better understood, fewer people would quit—and more would stay long enough for it to change them.Support the showLeave a message or text us 24/7/365!+1-805-456-3316

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is often seen as the problematic byproduct of modern lifestyles that threatens our planet's stability – at least within conversations among environmentalists. But this perspective overlooks the fundamental role of CO2 in everything on Earth, from the food we eat to the houses we live in to our bodies themselves. Despite this reality, the carbon cycle as we know it has been interrupted in ways never before seen in Earth's history. How could understanding the deep history of CO2, as well as humanity's relationship with this controversial and vital molecule, help us prepare for the planetary changes ahead? In this episode, Nate is joined by science journalist Peter Brannen, who reframes CO2 from an industrial pollutant to a miraculous substance whose critical role within the carbon cycle makes Earth habitable. Peter traces our planet's history through the lens of CO2, including mass extinctions, Snowball Earth events, and the surprisingly stable Holocene period that has cradled human civilization. Peter also addresses humanity's current impact on the carbon cycle, the complexity and resilience of Earth's ecosystems, and the challenges we face as we push climate systems we don't fully understand into unknown territory. How is the carbon cycle unexpectedly connected to the origins of oxygen, dozens of major and minor mass extinctions, and even the beginning of civilizations? How do humanity's current CO2 emissions compare to those of Earth's past? And could understanding the deep time of geology inspire both cosmic wonder and precautionary action, subsequently pushing us towards better decisions for the future? (Conversation recorded on September 23rd, 2025) About Peter Brannen: Peter Brannen is an award-winning science journalist and contributing writer at The Atlantic, with particular interests in geology, ocean science, deep time, and the carbon cycle. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wired, Aeon, The Boston Globe, Slate and The Guardian among other publications. His book, The Story of CO2 is the Story of Everything, was published earlier this year by Ecco, who also published his previous book, The Ends of the World, about the five major mass extinctions in Earth's history. Peter was a 2023 visiting scholar at the Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, and is an affiliate at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He was formerly a 2018 Scripps Fellow at CU-Boulder, a 2015 journalist-in-residence at the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center at Duke University, and a 2011 Ocean Science Journalism Fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, MA. His essays have been featured in the Best American Science and Nature Writing series and in The Climate Book by Greta Thunberg. In this episode, I want to talk about something most people completely misunderstood about The Matrix. Most people think the message of that movie was simple: unplug. Detach. Escape. Disappear from the system. But that couldn't be further from the truth. The movie was never about running away from the Matrix. It was about waking up. It was about discovering the truth of your reality. “Vision is what inspires your people. Mission is what activates and organizes them.” —Rain BennettWhat good is a bold vision if you don't have a mission to back it up? In this solo episode, Rain Bennett breaks down why mission is the most misunderstood and most essential piece of a brand's storytelling system. Using examples from WeWork's collapse and Airbnb's legendary collaboration with Pixar, Rain explains how to turn abstract ideas into real-world action through a story-driven mission. If your company struggles to align teams, inspire customers, or scale with clarity, the problem may not be your vision. It may be the lack of a narrative-driven mission. This episode will teach you how to build one that works, aligns, and lasts. In this episode, you will learn to:Find the gap between vision and mission that leads to brand driftCraft a mission that functions like a plotline for your businessAlign internal teams and stakeholders around a shared narrativeUse customer journey mapping as a story structureTranslate lofty goals into repeatable action through story

What if anorexia is being missed simply because of body size? In this powerful and deeply validating conversation, I sit down with eating disorder physician Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, MD @gaudianiclinic to explore why the term “atypical anorexia” can obscure real medical risk, delay diagnosis, and reinforce weight stigma across healthcare systems. We discuss what has changed since the first edition of Sick Enough, why weight stigma remains foundational to eating disorder harm, and how current research is reshaping clinical understanding of restrictive eating, ARFID in adults, digestive illness, neurodivergence, chronic medical conditions, and long-term eating disorder recovery. At the center of this episode is an urgent truth for 2026: severe eating disorder suffering does not require being underweight. What We Discuss in This Episode Throughout this conversation, we examine why most people with anorexia are not underweight and how weight stigma continues to shape who gets believed, diagnosed, and treated. Dr. Gaudiani shares what is new and expanded in the second edition of Sick Enough, including updated medical research on binge eating disorder, ARFID across the lifespan, atypical anorexia, and the broader restrictive eating spectrum. We also explore the critical role of gastrointestinal pain, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and complex chronic illness in both driving and worsening restrictive eating patterns. This discussion highlights why many adults with ARFID remain misdiagnosed for years, how neurodivergence such as autism and ADHD intersects with eating disorders, and why neurodivergent-affirming, weight-inclusive, trauma-informed care is essential for meaningful recovery. Key Themes for Eating Disorder Recovery in 2026 We further discuss harm reduction, autonomy, and realistic pathways for people living with long-term or chronic eating disorders, including how rebuilding trust after medical trauma can reopen the possibility of healing. Rather than framing recovery as “full recovery or nothing,” this episode explores how supporting quality of life, medical stability, and patient-directed goals can actually improve outcomes. These themes reflect major shifts happening in eating disorder treatment in 2026, including movement toward weight-inclusive medicine, trauma-informed care, recognition of ARFID in adults, support for chronic eating disorders, and clinical models that affirm neurodivergent lived experience. About the Guest Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, MD @gaudianiclinic is a board-certified internal medicine physician and one of the leading medical experts in eating disorder care. She is the founder and medical director of the Gaudiani Clinic, a weight-inclusive outpatient medical practice providing specialized treatment for eating disorders, undernourishment related to complex medical conditions, and trauma-informed primary care across the United States via telemedicine. Dr. Gaudiani previously served as medical director at the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and is the author of Sick Enough: A Guide to the Medical Complications of Eating Disorders, a widely respected clinical and patient resource now released in a fully updated second edition. Her work centers compassion, autonomy, and dignity for people in all body sizes seeking eating disorder recovery. Resources Mentioned Resources referenced in this episode include Sick Enough: A Guide to the Medical Complications of Eating Disorders (Second Edition) and the Gaudiani Clinic, which offers weight-inclusive outpatient medical care for eating disorders throughout the United States. Content Caution This episode includes discussion of eating disorders, restrictive eating, ARFID, medical complications, gastrointestinal illness, weight stigma, and medical trauma. Please listen in the way that feels most supportive for you and take pauses as needed. Work With Dr. Marianne If this conversation resonated, you are not alone. There's a moment in every human journey where the thing you think is the problem turns out to be nothing more than the doorway to the real work.Herpes isn't the villain in this story.Shame is.And shame only survives when it goes unexamined, unspoken, and unchallenged. In this episode, I sit down with Adrienne (The Yoni Nutritionist) and Christopher Pickering, two people who've lived the diagnosis, dismantled the stigma, and rebuilt their identities on the other side of it.But this isn't a conversation about sexual health. It's a conversation about the human tendency to build entire identities from untested fears, and then mistake those fears for truth. We explore why people cling to victimhood even when freedom is available, why disclosure becomes a litmus test for trust, why men and women metabolise shame so differently, and what happens when you stop organising your life around avoidance and start organising it around agency. It's a conversation about story; the one you inherited, the one you created, and the one you finally choose to let go of.Timestamps00:00 — Intro02:14 — The problem is rarely the problem; the story is.06:40 — Shame's favourite hiding places.12:58 — Adrienne on reclaiming her body after years of fear.18:23 — Christopher on the “black-pill” mindset and learned hopelessness.25:01 — Disclosure, trust, and the psychology of intimacy.33:44 — Why humans choose familiar pain over unfamiliar freedom.41:20 — Dating, polarity, and what shame does to desire.52:55 — The moment life shifts when you stop negotiating with your worth.Connect with Me:Want to work with me? In this episode of Lead-Lag Live, I sit down with Alex Shahidi, Managing Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer at Evoke Advisors, to break down why markets heading into 2026 are forcing investors to rethink diversification, risk, and portfolio construction. With inflation remaining sticky, political uncertainty rising, and stocks and bonds often moving together during inflation shocks, Alex explains why the traditional 60/40 framework falls short and what true diversification actually looks like in an environment defined by wide-ranging macro outcomes.Throughout the conversation, we discuss how his work around balanced asset allocation and risk parity has evolved from theory into practice, including the thinking behind the RPAR ETFs available at RPAR Risk Parity ETF. , the broader research and conversations he hosts each week on Insightful Investor , and how this framework is implemented in real client portfolios at Evoke Advisors . Alex also shares perspectives he's written about through his Forbes Finance Council contributions and the ideas explored more deeply in his book: Risk Parity: How to Invest for All Market Environments and Balanced Asset Allocation: How to Profit in Any Economic Climate. In this episode:– Why inflation uncertainty changes how diversification actually works– How stocks and bonds can fail at the same time during inflation shocks– What investors misunderstand about risk parity and balance– Why assets like commodities and gold need meaningful weight to matter– How to think about portfolio construction when outcomes are highly uncertainLead-Lag Live brings you inside conversations with the financial thinkers who shape markets. In this Post Shift Shot, Shawn Soole tackles a tough but necessary truth: hard work and sacrifice still matter in hospitality — even in a world obsessed with shortcuts, instant success, and surface-level wins. This isn't about glorifying burnout. It's about respecting the process. The long nights, the reps, the missed weekends, the uncomfortable growth — the things that still build skill, character, credibility, and trust behind the bar and beyond it.
Why are disabled individuals still excluded from leadership? In this episode of The Inclusive Growth Show, Toby Mildon speaks with Pravjoth Gill, a disability advocate and recent HR graduate, whose dissertation explores the misrepresentation of disabled people in leadership roles – and what inclusive HR practices can do to change this.Pravjoth shares how her lived experience and intersectional identity shaped her research, what the biggest blockers to disabled leadership are, and how internalised ableism and outdated workplace systems continue to hold talent back.Key takeaways:Why disabled leaders are often seen as ‘inspirational' – and why that's problematic. The real barriers beyond bias: broken systems, lack of adjustments, and inaccessible leadership pipelines. What HR can do now: co-creating inclusive training with disabled voices. The role of voluntary sectors and what others can learn. What the workplace could look like in 10 years if we get inclusion right.Guest Highlight: Pravjoth Gill, Associate at CIPD

Healthy relationships require that we are open to being influenced. After all, what is a relationship if it doesn't include give and take. In this episode of Breaking Bread, Kaleb Beyer explains what both research and experience has taught him about the importance of accepting influence in relationships. Show notes: What does accepting relational influence mean? Allowing those we are in relationship with to shape and impact our thinking, feeling and behaving. What does not accepting relational influence look like? Relationship rigidity resulting in dismissing or being un-moved by the input, wisdom, experience and interaction of another individual. What does the research say? Husbands who accept influence from their wives tend to have happier and more satisfying relationships. The more influence a spouse is willing to accept, the more influential they can be. What makes accepting relational influence difficult? Being defensive or the tendency to recoil from perceived challenges. Black and white thinking or the tendency to see matters in either/or categories. Avoidant or the tendency to avoid relationship disagreement and friction. Misunderstood roles in relationship or the tendency to enter a relationship with a role modeled or taught to you that does not permit influence. Lack of relationship safety. What happens if we don't accept influence? The relationship tends towards disconnection. Does accepting influence mean finding agreement? Yes and no. Yes – you both agree that the other is worth understanding well enough to know when and how to yield to them. No – agreement is not the objective. In fact, disagreement is common and still should include influence. What does healthy influence look like amid disagreement? When a person says "no" in a relationship, they should simultaneously say "yes" to the friend or spouse they are in relationship with. By this we mean, those we are in relationship should always feel they have been understood and valued enough to have influenced us regardless of the decision at hand.
In this interview I'm joined by Dr. Stephen Haynes to discuss the life, thought, and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We pay special attention to the way he has been co-opted by radically different groups, each seeking to draw on portions of his thought to justify their own ends. Stephen R. Haynes holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Literature from Emory University, the M. Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary, an M. A. from Florida State University, and a B. A. from Vanderbilt University. Professor Haynes has been at Rhodes since 1989 and offers courses on the Holocaust, the Bible and its reception, mass incarceration, and religion and addiction. We know that people will lie. We know that people will say hurtful things because they've been hurt. We know that what people say about us can have absolutely nothing to do with us. And we know that people judge, blame, and criticize in ways that have no relationship to the truth. So why then do their words hurt so much? Why do we suffer so deeply when people slander us? And why do we take things so personally that are in no way personal? It's because our mind can know something, but unless our subconscious mind and body know it too, we don't really know it. We only know it intellectually, but deep down in our gut we are clueless. In this podcast, I share my own struggles with being misunderstood. I talk about how I overcame people's lies, judgments, and cruelties. And I share the simple, profound, and easy ways we can all understand at the deepest level that other people's thoughts and words are none of our concern. Please enjoy other episodes where I share meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder does not end in childhood. Many adults live for years, even decades, with ARFID that goes unnamed, misunderstood, or incorrectly treated. In this solo episode, Dr. Marianne Miller explores why ARFID in adults is so often missed, how misdiagnosis shapes harmful care pathways, and what adult-appropriate support actually requires. This conversation centers adults who never felt seen in eating disorder spaces, who were told their struggles were anxiety, habits, or personality traits, and who learned to adapt quietly rather than receive care that fit. Why ARFID in Adults Is Frequently Missed ARFID still gets framed as a childhood diagnosis in many clinical settings. When adults present with long-standing food avoidance, fear of adverse consequences, or limited food variety, providers often overlook ARFID entirely. This section explores how outdated training and pediatric-focused models contribute to delayed recognition and missed diagnosis. Common Misdiagnoses That Delay ARFID Treatment Adults with ARFID are frequently misdiagnosed with anorexia, generalized anxiety disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, or trauma responses. Dr. Miller explains how weight-centered assumptions and surface-level assessments obscure the nervous system and sensory drivers of ARFID, leading to treatment that does not address the real issue. Why So Many Adults Go Untreated for Years Many adults with ARFID become highly skilled at adapting. They plan their lives around food access, avoid social eating, and manage significant cognitive and emotional labor behind the scenes. Because this adaptation often looks like functioning, providers underestimate the depth of distress and delay appropriate intervention. Neurodivergence, Trauma, and Medical History in Adult ARFID ARFID in adults frequently overlaps with neurodivergence, chronic illness, trauma, and complex medical experiences. This episode discusses how sensory processing differences, interoceptive challenges, and past food-related or medical harm shape adult eating patterns and must be addressed in care. What Adult-Appropriate ARFID Care Actually Looks Like Effective ARFID treatment for adults requires flexibility, collaboration, and respect for autonomy. Dr. Miller outlines why rigid eating disorder models often fail adults with ARFID and what support looks like when it centers nervous system safety, lived experience, and real-world practicality. Late Diagnosis Does Not Mean Failure If you received an ARFID diagnosis later in life, or are only now recognizing yourself in this conversation, this section offers validation. Delayed diagnosis reflects systemic gaps, not personal shortcomings. There is no expiration date on care, understanding, or support. You can be running a successful business and still feel exposed. Revenue is coming in, clients are smart, demand is real, and yet, cash flow feels tighter than it should, decisions feel heavier than expected, and the business itself feels fragile. In this conversation, Eleanor is joined by Julia Taylor, CEO and founder of GeekPack, a company that operates at the intersection of entrepreneurship and institutions. This episode names a reality many women business owners experience but rarely have language for: sometimes the problem isn't how well you're working, it's where your business is getting its stability from. Tune in this week as Eleanor and Julia take a strategic look at what business stability really requires and why it so often gets misunderstood in women-led companies. Julia shares how she built a revenue architecture that separates value creation from stability by partnering with large organizations, securing grants, and designing systems that can actually carry growth. Together, they explore why so many women are taught to absorb risk personally, and what changes when stability is designed structurally instead. Being laughed at or criticized or misunderstood is the price of leaving the herd and producing your magic.Aside from the mastery on the canvas and the genius of the brushstrokes, what makes a work of art by Jean Michel Basquiat worth hundreds of millions and this rough-edges piece worth so little is the signature at the bottom. Through his prowess, Basquiat made his name worth something. And then he protected his good name so that his greatness would stand the test of time. Are Democrats truly lunatic fringe, or are they just misunderstood? It's a good question, given the numbers of far leftist loons who've taken over streets in Minneapolis to stop by whatever violent means necessary ICE agents from doing their jobs and removing criminals from the country. As top PR agent and best-selling author AJ Rice says: What's needed is a little bit of humor. It's really the best way to shut down the political opposition without losing sanity in the process.
THE GREEN KNIGHT (2021) is often described as abstract, slow, or confusing, but those labels miss what the film is actually doing. Directed by David Lowery, this Arthurian adaptation isn't a puzzle to be solved, but a moral fable about avoidance and the cost of refusing to grow up. In this episode of Four Play, Richard Lewis, MonteCristo, and Thorin break down why The Green Knight is less concerned with symbolism and mythology than it is with character. Gawain's journey isn't about heroism, it's about procrastination, self-deception, and the terrifying moment when excuses run out. Rather than presenting a traditional fantasy quest, the film strips the genre down to its emotional core. Each encounter tests Gawain not with strength or cleverness, but with honesty and courage, which are virtues he repeatedly fails to embody until the moment that finally matters. Happy Potluck Saturday, Heal Squad. Today's dish comes courtesy of candy bars, wrestling legends, and an unexpected lesson about intelligence, performance, and vision. Kev and Anne start with Milky Ways, Three Musketeers, Jawbreakers, and the eternal bar vs. box candy debate… and somehow lands on Captain Lou Albano, entertainment psychology, and why the people who change culture are often misunderstood while they're doing it. A look at character versus chaos, insecurity versus strategy, and how larger-than-life personas are sometimes built as armor, not ego. Including stories about wrestling, Cyndi Lauper, Rock 'n Wrestling, Hollywood gatekeepers, and why so many great ideas get dismissed simply because they arrive before people are ready to see them. A reminder that vision often looks messy, confidence often masks fear, and the most interesting people are usually the ones who don't fit neatly into anyone else's box. A new year has arrived, and with it comes a fresh wave of hot takes, bold predictions, and "can't miss" investing ideas. Joe Saul-Sehy and OG step back from the noise to discuss what clearly doesn't work and then to focus on what actually helps you build wealth in 2026 and beyond. Rather than chasing hot trends, they revisit the timeless rules that have quietly done the heavy lifting through every market cycle. Why diversification still matters even when it feels boring. Why IPO hype and speculative real estate deals often disappoint. How consistency beats cleverness far more often than most people expect. From there, the conversation shifts into a practical framework Stackers can use no matter what the market throws their way. Joe and OG walk through the proper order of investing decisions: start with clear goals, build the right asset allocation, choose appropriate asset selections, and then layer in tax strategy. By putting taxes in the right place (after the big structural decisions), they explain how to improve outcomes without letting tax avoidance distort the entire plan. The episode also digs into real-world traps that tend to surface when uncertainty rises. Real estate crowdfunding. Penny stock temptation. Misunderstood property tax increases. The guys break down where people get tripped up and how to protect yourself without becoming overly cautious or frozen by fear. Just as important, Joe and OG explore the difference between luck and skill in investing stories. If you've ever felt behind because someone else's risky move worked out, this discussion brings perspective and relief by reminding Stackers what sustainable progress actually looks like. What You'll Learn: • Why timeless investing principles matter more than 2026 predictions • How diversification truly reduces risk and where people misuse it • The dangers of IPOs, penny stocks, and "exclusive" real estate deals • The correct order of smart investing decisions: goals first, asset allocation next, asset selection after that, tax strategy layered on last • How to think about tax efficiency without letting taxes drive the plan • What new homeowners often misunderstand about property taxes • How to spot luck masquerading as skill in investing success stories • Ways to stay confident and consistent when markets feel uncertain If you're looking to start 2026 grounded, informed, and focused on the moves that actually matter, this episode delivers a steady, practical roadmap without hype, fear, or shortcuts. Listen for the principles that hold up when markets misbehave and the small mistakes that quietly derail otherwise solid plans.
