Tonight we meet Nikola from Fife in Scotland. Her experiences began in childhood with strange out-of-body sensations, distorted perceptions, and a hand that grabbed her awake in her grandmother's house. As she grew older, the activity continued, including a violent hair-pulling incident during a sleepover and a moment of spoken anger that seemed to echo forward into a real car crash. Another assembly election is done and dusted. And the Opposition has lost yet again – this time it was decimated. The NDA won 202 out of the 243 seats in Bihar, with a vote share of 46.5%. The Mahagathbandhan could secure only 35 seats, with a vote share of 37.6%. Before the results were out, no one had predicted that the NDA would cross 200 seats. But post-facto, we are hearing sophisticated hypotheses about the so-called ‘index of unity', caste arithmetic, etc that apparently benefited the NDA. And once again, the Election Commission's role is in the spotlight, especially with the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. What does this verdict mean for Bihar, and for the Opposition parties, which, in 2026, face a series of assembly elections preceded by SIR, just like in Bihar? Jason Leigh is a member of 'The International Space Sciences Organization,' 'The UFO Scientific Research Center' and 'The American Legion.' You might be familiar with the Greek word homos, which means “same.” It is from this word that we get words like homonym, homogeneous, and homophone, all of which have to do with sameness or similarity. What does this have to do with anomaly? Although it's not obvious, homos is a part of the etymology of anomaly, too. Anomaly is a descendant—by way of Latin and Middle French—of the Greek word anṓmalos, which means “uneven” or “irregular.” Anṓmalos comes from the prefix a- (meaning “not”) and the word homalόs (meaning “even”)—and homalόs comes from homos.

Recently, the new embryo-selection start-up Herasight has been in the news, finally coming out of stealth. Part of the buzz is because of the public involvement of well-known geneticists and academics like Alex Young and Joe Pickrell in Herasight's algorithm development. Additionally, Noor Siddiqi, the CEO of Orchid, a competitor to Herasight (and onetime advertiser on this podcast), was a guest on Ross Douthat's show Interesting Times, triggering another round of conversations around embryo-selection, including in The Wall Street Journal and Breaking Points. To hash out some opposing viewpoints, Unsupervised Learning decided to bring on two guests that stake out very different positions, Dr. James Lee, a psychometrician and behavior geneticist at the University of Minnesota, and Dr. Jonathan Anomaly, a philosopher and Herasight's sales lead. Lee has been on the record with his skepticism of reproductive technology, writing an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal four years ago warning against the consequences of polygenic embryo selection. Meanwhile, Anomaly's last book was Creating Future People: The Science and Ethics of Genetic Enhancement, where he advances the idea that such technologies will unlock human potential.

Segment ruthlessly based on transformation readiness: Not every healthcare organization is ready for transformative technology. Mike emphasizes the critical need to identify whether prospects are "looking for transformation" versus "looking to automate an isolated process." He shares that distinguishing between these segments determines the entire sales approach. Organizations seeking transformation are willing to work through implementation complexity for substantial outcomes, while those seeking automation want predictable, incremental improvements. Misreading this distinction leads to failed sales cycles and misaligned product development. Use forward-deployed engineering as a competitive advantage: Rather than traditional customer success managers, Anomaly deploys engineers directly to customers during implementation. This approach proves particularly valuable in AI/ML applications where the technology is rapidly evolving and customer needs aren't fully defined. Mike notes, "Having engineers in that has been hugely valuable for us because we're able to really quickly deliver value, very quickly deliver outsized value."
