WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR BON SCOTT (a continuation of our AC/DC Side 1: The Bon Scott Years episode from way back in 2020) is OUR greatest hits package from the iconic Bon Scott Years of AC/DC. And because we couldn't include ALL of the tracks from this legendary era, there were quite a few that unfortunately got “Shot Down In Flames”. Having said that, we still managed to include everything we felt SHOULD be included which best represents the classic Bon era of AC/DC. Find out how tasting the “after-tang” from “snooch smooching” is a lot like “when you're used to the black and you get the green”. Brace yourself for our upcoming “Metal Nerdery apology tour” with a stop in “Australasia”, embrace the presence of the “Ghost of The Bunkerpoon”, and prepare for a story with a cast of characters that can only be described as “The Reverse Oreo”. Episode 73 welcomes London based DJ and booker @TobyNicholas, a longtime lover of dance music and a DJ in his own right, best known as one half of a duo with @HamishCole. Toby has seen every aspect of club culture, both the good and the bad. After stints in Leeds and Manchester, where he cut his teeth as a founding member of the cult party series Dog Eat Dog, he started working for London venue @picklefactorylondon when it launched as a sister site to the now defunct Oval Space in 2014. Balancing his creative life as a DJ with the challenges of booking a small, headsy nightclub in Bethnal Green has been an uphill battle for Toby, especially as the nightlife industry in London continues to fight for its life amidst rising costs and reduced spending. In this episode, we look back at Toby's early days as a raver and finding his place in the music industry as both as DJ and a booker, the trials and tribulations of the London nightlife scene, and his favourite memories of the club he devoted nearly a decade of his life to. ++ Music: Glowing Glisses - "On The Bridge (Larry Heards After Dark Dub Mix)" North Avenue - "Solutions (Instrumental)" Ross Couch - "Groove On (Original Mix)" ++ FOLLOW AIR: Instagram: www.instagram.com/_airpodcast/ Patreon: www.patreon.com/airpodcast Substack: airpodcast.substack.com/
Wherein Eric and special guest co-host Ross explore the decline and fall of the most beloved musical genre of their shared misspent youth, glam metal, looking in on the life, times, and repertoire of bands including Slaughter, Poison, Ratt, Warrant, Skid Row, Kiss, Mötley Crüe and many, many more as the 90's death-marched all of them slowly but surely towards (a temporary!) cultural irrelevance. The Schradercast has walked some interesting ground in its previous 9 episodes, but this time Blaize and Jason have hit the most interesting ground so far, with two diametrically opposite films which provide a fascinating contrast for each other. First, Dog Eat Dog a hyperkinetic nihilistic Nic Cage/Willem Dafoe crime thriller. Next, First Reformed, a highly considered and deeply fascinating Ethan Hawke/Amanda Seyfred journey into the complex darkness of one man's soul. Whatever the mismatched nature is of these films, the resulting discussion ends up being one of the most intense and often moving conversations we've ever done on Jason and the Movienauts. We hope you enjoy it too.
On thi sepisoode we disucss Warrant. Are they an underrtaed 80s band or were they lucky to jump on the 80s rock bandwagon and were simply successful due to a saturated marketplace? We also discuss thier Dog Eat Dog album, and which songs we like and don't like.

Arf arf, listeners - this week we're talking Paul Schrader's 2016 goofaround crime thriller DOG EAT DOG with Darryl Edge and Petros Patsilivas from the Getting Dafoe You podcast! This film was a form of creative redemption for Schrader and Nicolas Cage after the fiasco of DYING OF THE LIGHT, but is it of any interest to an audience? We report, you decide. We also decide, to be honest. The four of us have now likely given more attention to this film than anyone involved in its production, so I think we've earned the right. Fun ep, check it out! The title of this week's episode comes from a term that legendary rock photographer Norman Seeff uses to describe a truly innovative artist, one who is willing to risk sacrificing their career in order to expand beyond their creative comfort zone. He calls these people “boundary dweller artists.” Norman says that he sees Joni as the archetype of this concept. Her evolution to incorporate jazz influences in the 70s, threw some of her fans for a loop, but as we've heard in previous episodes, Joni was not concerned with what others think. Working with the likes of Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Charles Mingus, Joni pushed her own boundaries. She pushed Norman's boundaries, too. His photo sessions with Joni Mitchell spanned over 15 years and 12 sessions, and his photography of Joni has appeared in the album packaging and covers for Court and Spark, Hissing of Summer Lawns, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, Hejira, Dog Eat Dog, and her Hits and Misses compilations. Norman Seeff tells host Carmel Holt that Joni is one of the most courageous people he's ever worked with, and in this fascinating episode that traces Norman's road to Joni and where it led him, we learn how the process of writing and compiling his book Joni: The Joni Mitchell Sessions he realized that he had not only captured Joni's metamorphosis but he also had been led to the guiding philosophy about creativity and the artistic spirit that has guided his work, and his personal evolution.

Welcome to another year in the Cage! This episode is special, in that it's actually a triplesode. The guys found three Nicolas Cage movies where the title is exactly three words. Eric talks about "the Weather Man", Richard talks about "Dog Eat Dog", and John talks about "Mom and Dad". On this episode, Eric explains pleasantries to the terminally online. John saw an urban legend, true story. And Richard hopes that we all share in a delusion. So prepare for the worst, pick a genre, and listen to Plot Spackle! It's been 30 years, Slackers! After watching a studio performance by WEEZER, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their amazing debut record, I looked into what other music dropped in 1994. Holy cow, that was a pretty good year for music! Records from RANCID, THE OFFSPRING, and GREEN DAY all came out in 1994, moving past the “grunge/punk” aesthetic into the pop-punk era that would drive the later shift into emo.Under the mainstream radar, were bands like BLACK TRAIN JACK, DOG EAT DOG, and LIFE OF AGONY, all on ROADRUNNER RECORDS, while huge legacy acts like THE ROLLING STONES, JOHNNY CASH, and TOM PETTY all had releases during the year. And not to be thrown to the wayside, grunge supergroups SOUNDGARDEN, PEARL JAM, and NIRVANA all had multiplatinum records. 1994 was also the year that KURT COBAIN took his own life, with “MTV Unplugged in New York” released posthumously. Basically, 1994 was a great year for music. And a little shoutout to my buddy Coop up there in Heaven - I told you WEEZER was a better band than PAVEMENT.

Angela found her passion for acting at the age of nine when she attended a community theatre audition with a neighbor, and accidentally landed the role of Lucy in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. When she was 20, she hired private acting coach, Karen LaVoie, and was later accepted into The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she was picked up by the Cosden Morgan Agency, decided not to attend AADA and began auditioning. Angela's resume includes extra work and small roles in television/ film productions including Warner Brothers Cradle to the Grave, Paramount Pictures The Hunted, HBO's Live from Baghdad, ABC's The Practice, and Idiot Boyfriend starring Jimmy Fallon. Angela co-starred in two Independent films, Dream Girl and The Inglewood Project. She was also featured in NBC's Dog Eat Dog and The John Walsh Project. She left Los Angeles in 2002 after meeting Shawn Sweet, the love of her life, in North Carolina. Her professional focus shifted from acting to personal training and print modeling for companies such as IBM, Ashley Furniture and Oxygen fitness magazine. She founded “The Fitness Studio” franchise in 2007 with the heart to teach godly physical stewardship. The company was blessed, expanding to three locations. It was sold in 2012 when the Sweet family relocated to Texas. Shawn and Angela Sweet have two children and currently own/operate Sweet Financial Group, LP together.Angela's heart is to honor God using whatever avenue of ministry He provides, including acting. She is grateful to invest in Stronger and confident that God will reveal truth, comfort hearts, and restore hope through this film.

Gibbs, Christopher Denham, Grace Palma, and more. READ MORE: Luc Besson Says He Gave Tarantino The Idea For The 10-Film Retirement Plan & Says He Has 3 Films Left During the interview, Besson talked about the real-life story that inspired his latest twisted action opus. He covered plenty of other topics, too, including Natalie Portman's recent criticism of "Leon: The Professional," a potential "Lucy 2," giving Quentin Tarantino the idea to retire after ten films, the possibility of doing more "Valerian" films and much, much more. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

In 1976, Paul Schrader penned the screenplay for Taxi Driver, a film so important that it was considered "culturally, historically, or aesthetically" significant by the U.S. Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. In 2016, he directed Dog Eat Dog, which involves Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe, and Christopher Matthew Cook trying to steal a baby after a rousing game of "douse each other with condiments in a hotel room." Oh, how the great have fallen. Ex-cons executing executions! Platitudinous portrayal of unprincipled police! Assuming an audiences' indifference to infants! Musician Jerry Barker was inspired by Johnny Cash at the age of 12 to sing and play guitar. He never looked back. He studied history and English while at Ball State, but his passion for the guitar had a grip on him that would not let go. He pracitced and played for years behind the scences, but once he broke free during a gathering of "pickers" at a nursing home one evening, he knew what he had to do. After graduating from Ball State in 2019, Jerry recorded an album called "Dog Eat Dog World" and is preparing to record his next record. He can be found all around the Muncie Indiana area playing as a headliner, or as part of an open mic night. He opened for Don McLean at Ball State's Brown Family Ampitheatre in 2023 and continues to draw crowds everywhaere he plays. We talk about his inspiration, his favorite parts of being a musician, his goals, and what is coming next for he and his band. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scott-schick/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scott-schick/support

The explosion of Nevermind in 1991 pushed Sunset Strip bands that dominated the 1980s off of radio and MTV in favor of Seattle's Big 4 - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Promotion and marketing budgets dried up, tours saw decreasing attendance, and it left many hair and glam rock bands wondering what to do next. For Warrant, who made a name on power ballads and Cherry Pie, the shifting winds allowed them to explore the songwriting talent of frontman Jani Lane. On 1992's Dog Eat Dog, innuendo is swapped for political and social commentary on "April 2031" while "All the Bridges Are Burning" tackles drug addiction, neither standard fare for LA bands. While there are a few straightforward nods to the first two albums, the band make it clear they were capable of entering Queensryche or other previously unexplored territory with ease, whether their fanbase and radio were ready or not.
