In the ninth The Construction Briefing podcast, Michelle Rousell and Yassir Mahmood of Practical Law Construction discuss a number of developments referred to in March's monthly bulletin. The Building Safety Bill has now concluded its passage through the House of Lords. The latest building safety developments include removal of the role of Building Safety Manager, a further update to Form EWS1 and agreements reached on who will pay for remediation works. We also look at two Court of Appeal judgments addressing the embargo that applies to reserved court judgments: The Public Institution for Social Security v Banque Pictet & Cie SA and others [2022] EWCA Civ 368 and R (Counsel General for Wales) v Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy [2022] EWCA Civ 181.

Why can having permanent funds can alienate you from your support? In Ep #8 I was inspired by a passage I read in M.K Gandhi's autobiography on why having a reliable, permanently fixed and disconnected source of funds can actually be bad for you. It can make you lose touch with the public support that is essential to fulfilling your real, deeper, higher purpose. The V4V model is all about closing the loop and connecting with those people gaining value from your show/product/art, hence why boostagrams and streaming satoshis are such a gamechanger!Mad shoutout to Kyle Hebert for the boostagram and Adam Curry for the intro jingle. Sulaiman Alderbas, the Head of Alternative Investments at Kuwait’s $130 billion Public Institution of Social Security, or PIFSS. Sulaiman arrived at PIFFS from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Development in 2016, shortly before a scandal erupted when the former head of PIFFS was convicted of corruption and embezzling public funds for thirty years amounting to billions of dollars. Alongside Meshal Al-Othman, who joined to lead PIFSS from the Kuwait Fund, Sulaiman took part in a massive restructuring of the organization and portfolio.   Our conversation covers Sulaiman’s early experience as an allocator, lessons from investing in thirty hedge fund of funds at the Kuwait Fund, and transition to PIFFS at the inception of the discovery of the scandal.  We discuss the restructuring that took place over the last four years that canvassed the people, process and portfolio. Along the way, we touch on competitive advantages of size, knowledge transfer from managers, strategic stakes, and allocator innovation.   Learn More Subscribe: Apple | Spotify | Google   Follow Ted on Twitter at @tseides or LinkedIn Subscribe Monthly Mailing List  Read the Transcript
