This week I sit down with the founding member of CunninLynguists and QN5 Music representative, Deacon the Villian. We talk about the days growing up as a preachers son in Kentucky, to Kno's new Built to Fade album. Of course, we reminisce about Big L, The B.U.M.S., sampling and chat about the events surrounding the pivotal album, A Piece of Strange, an album that almost became the new name for the group. A Piece of Strange is a dense concept record that explores the religion and racism that are staples of the south, and questions the space between right and wrong that will always resonate. Lastly, we chat about the events leading up to The Off Daze side project, which leads us through excursions in Paris, remaining 100% sample free and how underground hip-hop bubbled up from the decline of the mainstream. Deacon expects to release a new song every three weeks throughout 2020, so he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.Show Website: https://www.bedroombeethovens.comShow will be uploaded at 12 Midnight Central following show releaseFollow us on social mediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/hlnfradionetworkTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/HLNF_BulletinInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/heartlandnewsfeedMastadon: https://liberdon.com/@heartlandnewsfeedDiscord: https://discord.gg/6b6u6DTSupport us with your financial supportStreamlabs: https://streamlabs.com/heartlandmediaPayPal: https://www.paypal.me/heartlandmediaSquare Cash: https://cash.app/$heartlandnewsfeedPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/heartlandnewsfeedCrypto via 1UpCoin: https://1upcoin.com/donate/heartlandmedia

Library Rap: The Hip Hop Interviews with Tim Einenkel

On The Library with Tim Einenkel, Tim talks with Hip-Hop Artist Substantial about his latest album "Home is Where The Art Is."  This interview will air in three parts, here is part 1 of the interview. More on Substantial below: Substantial is synonymous with hip-hop, from the U.V. Ink label he launched, to the lyrical dexterity of his common-man flow. His debut solo album, To This Union A Sun Was Born (Hyde Out Productions), did well everywhere, especially in Japan where it hit the Top 10. This success set off a career touring Asia, Europe and almost all of North America. As things got busier, Substantial linked with QN5 Music to focus solely on artistic creation. That led to profound collaborations with the legendary DJ Kool Herc, Bootsy Collins, Chew Fu, Cunninlynguists, Nujabes (R.I.P.) and an appearance on Bruce Kulick's (of KISS) album with all-star rocker Gene Simmons. His videos have appeared on MTV, BET, and VH1, while his music has made it to the second round of Grammy voting in three categories. Even the renowned car company Bentley reached out to have Substantial's supergroup FANOMM (with Chew Fu & J-Cast) create a song for them and perform in China at their car show. Vogue Magazine included his duo's music (Bop Alloy) in a recent playlist. Not bad for the Prince George's County rapper and community activist: He builds recording studios for at-risk youth in conjunction with Covenant House, and raises money for school music programs in VH1's Save The Music Series. For his newest album Home Is Where The Art Is (Mello Music Group), Substantial called upon Oddisee, an acclaimed musician who directed, mixed and contributed a large portion of the production. That's just the start of things to come. No wonder they call him Substantial. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

On this mammoth six hour exclusive special: Wu Tang Clan are in the building as U-God passes through to talk all about his new album 'Dopium'. Within the interview, U-God seeks to explore much more personal issues, revealing that he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is learning to manage life with the disorder. He talks longevity, the problems with hip hop 'artists' and much more, in a very intimate and typically-Conspiracy Radio style feature. Killah Priest swoops in full of life and energy to prelude his sophomore upcoming 2CD album, his new mixtapes, his DVDs and of course his participation within the Wu Tang Clan in 2009. Bizarrely, although contributors to the new Wu Tang Chamber Music Vol 1. neither U-God or Killah Priest really knew what the project is all about. DJ Muggs is on fine form as he joins us live to add his typiclaly dry but tragically realistic outlook on life. Topics include the group PCP, ignorant conformity, the expectations of fans and so much more in this edgy but enjoyable feature. QN5 Music join us in the form of Substantial and PackFM, to talk about the florid future of the record label and its artists. We explore genre-splitting,lyricism and a lot more. Blaq Poet seems happy to be on the show, as he takes us on the rocky journey leading up to the release of his DJ Premier produced album. He was certainly in high spirits from start to finish - Conspiracy Gold! DJ JS-1 is as amiable and humble as his achievements in life would suggest, as we investigate his forthcoming 27 track album. Expect to hear the reasons why, in most cases, the good guys always win in the end. AND THATS NOT ALL! N.E.R.D. affiliate and lyrical waterfall, Homeboy Sandman joins us for an interview that is as fluid as his vocal delivery. AND! Weapon X joins us to talk in depth about the current siuation in Iran and how his voice and the voices of 1000s can actively help change the tragic situation unfolding within The Middle East. SHOLAY!
