Berry Gordy founded perhaps the most famous independent record label in history - Motown - co-wrote some of the most enduring hits of the soul genre and dated Diana Ross. Yet he still had an unfulfilled ambition to... produce a martial arts movie? Apparently yes, and The Last Dragon was the result. A peculiar blend of kung-fu thrills, slapstick comedy, music-industry melodrama and charmingly naïve romance, you may be surprised at how well it all works. This week, Graham is joined - for the first time in too long! - by The Geek Show's Ben to discuss this extremely odd and thoroughly charming movie, along with the Wu-Tang Clan's love of Shaw Brothers samples, star Vanity's thoughts on Madonna, the unexpected early appearance by a very notable character actor, and so much more. It's an episode that will give you The Glow, whatever the hell The Glow is.If you want to help us get our squeaky-voiced girlfriends a spot on a local VJ's show, you can donate to our Patreon where you'll get a bonus episode of this show every month, plus weekly written reviews of The Twilight Zone, Doctor Who and The X-Files. There's also a monthly podcast - Last Night... - covering all the viewing experiences we can't fit in anywhere else, and none of it's available anywhere else. Leroy has a bone to pick with the media's coverage of Gonzalez involving their lack of credit in evaluating and acknowledging his greatness. Cerrone recites other stars' perception locally in the beginning and highlights similarities in ways they were mischaracterized early on in their careers. (22:07) Irvin & Battle continue to discuss Christian Gonzalez. Shouldn't Gonzalez' talent be obvious to everyone watching the NFL? Leroy continues his defense of Christian Gonzalez and his ability as a lockdown CB. (31:34) The Playa's Call - Time where the panel takes time to acknowledge someone in sports/life. This week the fellas talk about forgetting to not hold their breath when taking videos or photos on their phones to not pick up their heavy breathing. They also discuss upcoming travel plans and what shows/movies they are watching or want to watch this summer. Commando comes prepared with three poor choices involving a mishap with a cherished show themed product that neither he or Fatty actually ever fully clean; waiting too long for a nasal irrigation system but not reading the instructions about when to use and when not to use it; and finally being a nice guy at a gig and donating his drink tickets to a thristy event attendee. Corporal shares his experience in seeing Bella Fleck and an orchestra instead of going to the Wu-Tang Clan show in Atlanta. Right at the end Fatty learns he made a poor choice live during the show while at the cabin and now has to fight off invaders with a dust buster. Intro and Outro music written and performed by Andrés Rodríguez (Androzguitar).
Send us a textChuckie Taylor opens up about his remarkable journey across three continents in this candid conversation about identity, family, and cultural adaptation. Born in Boston to a Trinidadian mother and Liberian father, Chuck's early years were split between American neighborhoods before ultimately being sent to live with his father—who would later become Liberia's president—during his teenage years. With refreshing honesty, Chuckie describes himself as a "hip-hop baby" who grew up listening to Wu-Tang Clan and Black Moon while also connecting to his Caribbean roots through steel pan and calypso music. When trouble arose in Florida, his mother made the life-altering decision to send him to war-torn Liberia, where he faced the dual challenge of reconnecting with a largely absent father and navigating an entirely different cultural landscape. The cultural shock proved immense. From being dubbed "the American chicken" to learning the intricate protocols of communicating with African elders, Chuckie found himself adapting to survive in an environment where layers of hierarchy separated him from even his own father. His reflections on parenting philosophies—"the African mentality is that the child is born to serve their parents" versus his belief that "a parent is to serve his child"—reveal the profound perspectives he developed through these cross-continental experiences. What makes this conversation truly illuminating is Chuckie's ability to articulate the nuances between different Black cultural experiences—American, Caribbean, and African—highlighting diversity often overlooked in broader discussions. His subsequent journey to Trinidad to connect with his maternal roots before returning to America demonstrates a perpetual search for belonging that many with complex cultural identities will recognize.Have you ever wondered what it's like to grow up between worlds? Listen now to this fascinating exploration of identity, adaptation, and resilience across cultural boundaries, and share your thoughts on how our backgrounds shape who we become.Support the showFollow our IG & YouTube for live updates @LFTGRadio

SUUUUUUU! Welcome to another dip into the Wu-Tang Clan chamber. We jump into our Slept-On Wu Bangers Spotify playlist (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0iESHJ2ZPR33rhl9mHEmRx) and pick out a song to break down on the show. Back in 2001, Ghostface Killah was hitting his apex, and one of the best songs to encapsulate this is ‘The Sun'. A deep cut that never got the chance to open his album ‘Bulletproof Wallets', thanks to RZA being too high to remember the sample for clearance, this song may well be the best example of Wu-Tang being for the children. Featuring Raekwon, Slick Rick and RZA, we bring your our takes on this incredible track. Show Notes Best Alarm Clock Hip Hop Songs (6:37)
During my recent conversation with Andy Shauf about the new Foxwarren album, 2, he mentioned that one of his primary production influences for this record was Liquid Swords by GZA. And so now, I present the first interview I ever conducted with GZA. This phoner took place on Monday, October 6, 2008, just before midnight, and was focused on his solo album Pro Tools, and we covered other things too, including whether Wu-Tang Clan might reconcile after their album 8 Diagrams created bad blood in the group. As it happens, Wu-Tang will be launching their final tour, Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, this summer. This interview originally aired on the Mich Vish Interracial Morning Show! on October 22, 2008. This oligarchy helped fund the Nazi regime and then saved thousands of Nazis to work with the Central Intelligence Agency. CIA operations such as MK-Ultra pushed LSD and other drugs on leftist leaders and left-leaning populations at home and abroad. Evidence supports that this oligarchy further led the United States into its longest-running wars in the ideal areas for opium crops, while also massively funding wars in areas of coca plant abundance for cocaine production under the guise of a "war on drugs" that is actually the use of drugs as a war on us. Drugs as Weapons Against Us tells how scores of undercover U.S. Intelligence agents used drugs in the targeting of leftist leaders from SDS to the Black Panthers, Young Lords, Latin Kings, and the Occupy Movement. It also tells how they particularly targeted leftist musicians, including John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Tupac Shakur to promote drugs while later murdering them when they started sobering up and taking on more leftist activism. The book further uncovers the evidence that Intelligence agents dosed Paul Robeson with LSD, gave Mick Jagger his first hit of acid, hooked Janis Joplin on amphetamines, as well as manipulating Elvis Presley, Eminem, the Wu Tang Clan, and others.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
