Sydney Beat-Maker, Crate Digger, DJ & all-around legend DJ JUZZLIKEDAT doing it live at SOUL OF SYDNEY feat. OYOBI at SYDNEY FESTIVAL MOONSHINE BAR 2025 as the KATMA dance show afterparty. Closing out a dope dancefloor in style with a heavy dose of FUNK, SOUL, DISCO, HIP HOP & a touch of BBOY BREAKS with MC MIRRAH ON the MIC. Massive love to our bro, he was one of the first DJ's to get on board with our jams many years ago when we were just starting out.. helping out & giving us ideas and support and the confidence to do jams very early on. It was dope to see him doing his thing alongside Mirrah & closing out with a dope eclectic dancefloor. Big Love Soul of Sydney Podcast #423 has been streaming out of Redfern NSW since 2009. ABOUT JUZZLIKEDAT: DJ Juzzlikedat AKA JuzzOne was a keen collector of wax at 14 years old. Launched exclusively on the Inevitable website with a $10 access fee, the series features J. Cole alongside his manager Ibrahim "Ib" Hamad and filmmaker Scott Lazer. 'Inevitable' unfolds over 10 episodes, starting from November 18, 2024, each delving into pivotal moments of J. Cole's career from "The Come Up" to "Forest Hills Drive". J. Cole describes 'Inevitable' as a therapeutic, reflective journey, initially reluctant to share personal stories but now hoping to inspire others. The series includes the discovery of old demos, conversations spanning eight days, and unreleased tracks like collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and beats by Oddisee. The podcast not only revisits J. Super-special-secret friend Matt Heller (a.k.a. DJ Snakes) joins Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon for an in-depth discussion about what he's been listening to. In true DJ form, Snakes brings four rare/abstract vinyl singles to Electric Kitsch for a conversation about the DIY punk scene of his adolescence, the intersection of skateboarding and hip-hop, dusty independent soul holy grail 45s, proto-drumless rap from Wu's G.O.A.T. (arguably), and an unlikely emcee whose appeal is seemingly without boundaries. As always, an eclectic custom mixtape is curated and included on the back end. Lickers gonna lick. Join the fun! Send us a Text Message. "Everything I make, I try to make it my favorite album of all time."Simplicity is genius. Great artists can make the ostensibly impossible seem effortless. It's in this rarefied air where you'll find Detroit's Apollo Brown, constantly conjuring fresh innovations out of a tried-and-true formula. For the last decade, the Mello Music Group artist has singularly re-defined and expanded the foundation of what boom bap production can sound like in the 21st Century.Just consider the revered legends that have collaborated on full-length albums with him: Rass Kass (“Blasphemy”), Guilty Simpson (“Dice Game,”) Skyzoo (“Easy Truth Sessions”), Big Pooh (“Words Paint Pictures”) and O.C. (“Trophies.”) No less than DJ Premier declared the latter “hip-hop for the people,” naming “Trophies” the best album of 2012.This is the tradition that Apollo Brown triumphantly upholds: the head-nodding, screwface-inducing, soul-replenishing lineage of Primo and Pete Rock, J Dilla and Large Professor, Mobb Deep and DJ Muggs. He makes music for old and young heads—bone bruising beats that summon visceral images of back alley brawls in '81, pool hall melees, and metropolitan griminess. An East Coast sound with a midwestern mentality, channelling the marrow-freezing chill of the wind fleeing Lake Michigan.Everyone from Danny Brown to Chance The Rapper, Freddie Gibbs to Masta Ace, Black Milk to Oddisee have spit bars over his beats. Don't sleep on his projects with The Left, Ugly Heroes, and Hassaan Mackey, or his several acclaimed instrumental albums. Amounted together, it gives Apollo Brown a body of work that lives up to the legacy of the older gods. The explanation why is pretty simple. If you still have any doubts, all you need to do is press play.Buy Apollo Brown's Music HereFollow Apollo Brown on IG HereSupport the Show.WEBSITE AND MERCH! - http://www.officialchopshoppod.com

Rapper and producer Oddisee set high goals for his new EP, And Yet Still, tackling the world’s armed conflicts and our shared problems. "Not a day goes by without some grave injustice in the world,” states Oddisee “In between our guilt and gratefulness, we become desensitized or mobilized. As we fight for our beliefs, our day-to-day lives demand attention. We cry, cheer, mourn, and love — sometimes knowing it may be in vain and yet still, we carry on." You can hear a little hint of Marvin Gaye’s sound and approach to hardship on “World On Fire.”

Racism is still alive and well. But, long before some others see someone's skin tone, (sometimes) they see whether a person is a full-fledged penis - a dick. “Being a dick” is widely accepted in the culture, and perpetrators have to put in years of unacceptable behavior before they're finally officially challenged for their poor behavior. IRL, in the real world, “dicks” don't get to mess up things for the others in a space for very long. In this episode we'll talk about a few well-known dicks, as well as discuss 26.2 to Life's upcoming ESPN debut, the Don Lemon & Elin Musk exchange over censorship, and new music from elZhi, Oddisee, Talib Kweli and others. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/its-always-personal/support

DMV rapper and record producer Oddisee realized early on that purpose and success are self-designated. Born Amir Elkhalifa in Washington D.C. to a Sudanese father and African American mother, and raised in Prince George's County, Maryland, he bore witness to stark inequity early in life and became as political as the city he was raised in. Elkhalifa tackles the human condition with unwavering conviction and candor, merging elements of jazz, funk, and go-go into his hip-hop rooted production. Instead of pursuing record deals and executives, Elkhalifa has taken the less-traveled path. Streamlining elements of the industry early on, from single-handedly recording, producing, and mixing his music to steering his marketing strategy and tour runs. A string of contemporary releases—Rock Creek Park (2011), The Beauty in All (2013), The Good Fight (2015), Alwasta (2016), and The Iceberg (2017)—headlining performances and tours with his 5-piece band, Good Compny, and streams in the multi-millions have propelled him to international recognition and acclaim. This week's episode is brought to you by Manscaped! Oddisee - Try Again from the 2023 album To What End on Outer Note Label. In January, rapper/producer Oddisee dropped his twelfth studio album, To What End, which explores human ambition, posing the question: “How far are you willing to go, and why?” This idea is expressed in our Song of the Day and early single “Try Again.” Backed by a funky groove, the DC-based emcee waxes about growing from the trials and tribulations he previously endured. "Couple wins, couple L's / Took a hit but I prevailed/ Now I got the gist on how to flip it when I fail." Synth keys, rapid-firing drums, and a luscious guitar lick round out the infectious dance jam as Oddisee encourages listeners to not let their losses define them, proclaiming "All this time you spent / All that love you gave/ Please don't walk away / Try again.” Watch Oddisee's stirring Live from KEXP at Home performance and read the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Over the course of his catalog - which includes nearly 20 albums, instrumental tapes and EPs - he addresses the human condition with unwavering conviction and candor, and we end on 'To What End', his first full length album since 2017's The Iceberg.
