What if a video game system didn't need to connect to the internet for constant software and firmware updates? What if there was no hard drive, and the games were on cartridges? That might sound like a blast from the past, but it's what the aptly-named Retro VGS promises for the future. Sean and Vinnk welcome Mike Kennedy to talk about the Retro's evolution from a throwback 16-bit system to an infinitely configurable all-in-one platform for modern and vintage gaming. This is an interview with Mike Kennedy, one of the co-founders of the Retro VGS and the publisher of Retro Magazine. The Retro VGS is a new video game console that will not rely on an Internet connection and is completely cartridge based. We'll find out more about how they plan to structure the business model and when to expect their Kickstarter to launch.
We welcome Daniel Kayser back to Brookago this week to tell us about his new position as Editor-in-Chief and Director of Content of RETRO Magazine. We dig into Microsoft's new holographic space helmet called HoloLens and talk about whether it's the future of gaming. Chat about what Xbox One to PC game streaming might mean to consumers and try to figure out if all MMO's should just go free-to-play after Elder Scrolls decides to drop subscriptions. Before we boogie out of episode 46 we ask the age old question "Are videogames too long?"
Magazines have themselves become a retro medium, but what if someone could use that to their advantage in a dying industry? Double-win if you can tie it to retro video games. That's exactly what we have with our guests this week! Vinnk and Sean welcome co-founders Mike Kennedy and Mark Kaminski of Retro Magazine to talk about their Year 2 Kickstarter, and their favorite retro games. They also stick around for Future Retro and Pile of Shame to share some really interesting games we (or at least some of us) haven't played before! t’s been five years, five years of playing, recording, writing, drinking, traveling, filming, and most importantly; loving. Join us for a super casual, navel-gazing edition of Press Pause Radio as we decide to just share some stories, and talk about video games in a completely different light. We’ll also discuss plans for the future of Press Pause Radio, and where we plan to take it, Thanks again guys, it means a lot. Also, for those of you asking, my new jobs with RETRO Magazine and 148 Apps do not spell for the eventual end of PPR, All of us have plenty of steam left in this brand, and we have you guys to thank for it, so stay tuned, and keep coming back—we like your company. Also, here’s a 20% off voucher good till June 13th, through Greenman Gaming because we’re awesome and stuff.
