It's a big week for the Dukes! One of Xbox's most significant acquisitions in the last half decade is Obsidian Entertainment. They are a extremely talented studio who has been consistently worked over by every publisher they have worked alongside in some way, shape, or form and they now with Microsoft's pockets backing them up they will aim to make a big splash with Avowed. While it has long been described as "Obsidian's Skyrim," we were never 100% sure... until now. Joining us to discuss a recent huge leak about Avowed is IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and the timing couldn't be better. Beyond that, we dive into PlayStation's recent insistence on reaching tens and hundreds of millions of gamers. Will they take Xbox's pathway to reach that number or is there something else they have in mind? That plus 20th Anniversary predictions, the pressing discussion on how long a $60 should be, and much more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Disney and Lucasfilm have teased a Star Wars video game announcement for December as part of a publishing campaign that will reveal new Star Wars products every Tuesday for the rest of the year. As announced in an article on the official Star Wars website, the companies have launched their "Bring Home the Bounty" campaign, which will see "new Star Wars toys, collectibles, books, apparel and more" revealed on a weekly basis from now until the end of December. We're days away from another Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League preview at DC FanDome, but it looks like Rocksteady is starting up a good old-fashioned ARG ahead of time. The official Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Twitter account shared the phone number (310) 564-7047. Don't worry, IGN tested it out and you won't be dialing some poor random person's number like what happened during Squid Game. While not included in the upcoming expansion, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker will receive a post-launch patch with a new mode that vaguely sounds like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing called Island Sanctuary. In an interview with IGN, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida shared more details about this upcoming mode and what you can and can't do. Details for the Island Sanctuary mode remain sparse, especially since it's not planned to be released until after the Endwalker expansion is released in November. But we did know that you can tend to animals and crops similar to a farming sim. Stella has all that in your Daily Fix!
On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation podcast, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Matt Kim and Mitchell Saltzman to discuss the latest in the world of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation VR. The panel dives into some of the latest PlayStation news, like PlayStation's mobile games interest and Jim Ryan's recent comments about wanting to expand the PlayStation player base, the 5th anniversary of PSVR and some of our favorite PSVR games, and a little bit about what we hope to see in the updates made to PSVR 2 next-gen hardware. But the trio, emboldened by the end of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC fighters, and the release of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, dives into our dream roster list for PlayStation ALl-Stars 2, the unannounced fighting game sequel we hope really gets made some day. We dig into the obvious and deep cut choices we hope to see, what potential from new and old PlayStation franchises could make their way into the roster for a PlayStation All-Star sequel for PS5, and try to explain away some of our strangest choices. Really, we're sorry. Plus, Jonathon speaks with the developers behind JETT: The Far Shore, including its co-creator and composer about bringing its unique adventure to life, Mitchell gives his thoughts on Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Demon Slayer, and Matt offers preview impressions of his time with Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker content, including FF14's two upcoming new classes and why he and Jonathon think it's worth jumping into Final Fantasy XIV before Endwalker. We also dig into a Memory Card story, and much more! And if you're looking for more places to enjoy the show, check out Podcast Beyond! on all available platforms: https://linktr.ee/podcastbeyond

Why not pass the time with them as they show IGN how to really work out the greatest game of all time? Will it be Kratos, The god of war? The last of us? Mass Effect? Red dead redemption or GTA 5 ? And of you're hungry afterwards then an internet celebrity is here to help!

We also discuss a bit of the state of PlayStation Now and games we've been playing, including Far Cry 6 and Lost Judgment impressions, a Memory Card story, and more.

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Although Apple hasn't many games of its own, the tech giant is now taking more profits from games than Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo combined. And while Apple Arcade is still a great value, it's not the reason for their success in the gaming space. Massive titles like Fortnite and Honor of Kings bring in tons of revenue in the form of a 30% that Apple takes for listing these titles in their App Store. Ubisoft has confirmed a long-held fan theory about the villain of Far Cry 2, the Jackal, and how he connects to the original Far Cry story. "The Jackal is actually supposed to be Jack Carver from the original Far Cry," said Clint Hocking, Far Cry 2's Creative Director, while talking to IGN for the latest Inside Stories documentary, How Far Cry's Iconic Villains Were Created. Carver is an ex-U.S. Army Special Forces and the protagonist in the first Far Cry along with the spinoff Far Cry Instincts. According to Capcom's COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the company behind Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and many more is planning to "mainly focus on PC software" in the future. As reported by VGC, Tsujimoto was speaking to Nikkei and shared that the success of its PC software has been "driving global sales" and that he thinks "PCs will be the next big thing after smartphones." Daemon has all that in your Daily Fix!

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced yet another studio acquisition - Bluepoint Games, the developers of the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4, and, most recently, the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls. Bluepoint and PlayStation have worked closely together for years, but the news comes after the studio's latest successful release, as Sony confirmed Demon's Souls has sold more than 1.4 million copies since release. IGN spoke with PlayStation Studios Head Hermen Hulst and Bluepoint President Marco Thrush to learn more about the acquisition, PlayStation's overall studio strategy, and about how, though Bluepoint is steeped in PlayStation remaster and remake expertise, it wants to explore original ideas. Christopher Judge, the voice behind Kratos in 2018's God of War and the upcoming sequel, has said that his surgery was the reason that God of War: Ragnarok was delayed from its original 2021 release window. Judge shared this story on Twitter following God of War being crowned the champion of IGN's Best Video Game of All Time Bracket. He Quote Tweeted a Tweet from God of War's engineering lead Jeet Shroff that was responding to the victory and he then continued to thank the fans and send love to his God of War family. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - which one could assume would contain remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas - has been rated by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee. This rating was spotted by those like @Nibellion on Twitter, and it appears to confirm Kotaku's report from August 2021 that said these remasters - all of which would be remastered in Unreal Engine - are on their way to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, mobile devices, and even the Nintendo Switch. Akeem has all that in your Daily Fix!

BEYOND! The PlayStation news of the week isn't done, so Jonathon Dornbush and Brian Altano get together to discuss the news of PlayStation acquiring Bluepoint, the developers behind Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes. Jonathon also spoke with PlayStation's Hermen Hulst and Bluepoint's Marco Thrush, so he offers some details from his interview, including Bluepoint's desire to make a new game next, and we discuss PlayStation's overall acquisition strategy.
It's almost the end of September, which means Sony has revealed the free games available next month for PlayStation Plus subscribers. On PS5, we're getting Hell Let Loose, and for PS4, there's PGA Tour 2K21 and Mortal Kombat X. Hell Let Loose is a brand new World War 2-themed FPS with large 100-player battles and an RTS-inspired meta game. It was released on PC this summer and is now making its way to consoles. PGA Tour 2K21 features 15 licensed PGA Tour courses and a robust player and course creator. Mortal Kombat X was originally released back in 2015, and we gave it a glowing review, calling it the best Mortal Kombat game, period. PS Plus subscribers can grab these games starting October 5th. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may not be hitting PlayStation 5 consoles until 2023, but Marvel is already teasing the game's darker storyline. On the This Week in Marvel podcast, Marvel Games executive Bill Rosemann compared the sequel to another famous sequel: The Empire Strikes Back. The first game did a great job of setting up this new version of Peter Parker, and the challenges he faces balancing his responsibilities as Spider-Man with his real-life identity as Parker. Now it's time for the sequel to tackle some of Spidey's more complex storylines. But he won't be alone, as Miles Morales will be there at his side taking on Venom and most likely Kraven the Hunter. And finally, the Nintendo 64 and IGN turn 25 today. Time flies, huh? It didn't feel that long ago when we were using dial up internet to look up cheats for GoldenEye on IGN64.com. What are your favorite N64 memories? Let us know in the comments!

Today's show is a discussion and review of the 2021 independent film Werewolves Within. Based on the 2016 Ubisoft virtual reality game released on PS4 and Occulus, Werewolves Within was released to virtually no fanfare. In fact, the film received only a limited film release and then was released globally on VOD. To make matters worse, the film had the dubious honor of being released the same weekend as F9. F9's opening weekend box office debut casted a shadow over every other film obscuring any attention Werewolves Within would have had. Kenny listed Werewolves Within on our June 25th Friday Picks article. Kenny felt the quirky horror comedy whodunnit featuring a charming Sam Richardson would be a perfect distraction film for the weekend. Once Kenny watched it, he was hooked and couldn't stop talking about it. Of course, once Del watched it, they immediately worked on a script and the result is this podcast. Join Kenny and Del for a full discussion and breakdown. The Brothers will dive into pre-production, film performance, writing, direction, acting, scenes, and more. We hope our discussion will not only entertain you, but will also spark your interest in this film. On this week's episode of IGN's weekly PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Brian Altano and Mitchell Saltzman to discuss Kena: Bridge of Spirits, another great console exclusive game for the PS4 and PS5 lineup. We jump into Mitchell's thoughts from his review, in which he called Kena a great game, what we love and hope to see improved about the combat and exploration in future games, our love of the beautiful art design and detail, and we weirdly get hung up on the game's fonts. But in general, we discuss what's so great about Kena's gameplay and world, and why you'll want to pick up Ember Lab's first game on PS4 or PS5. Plus, we dive into the recent reports about Quantic Dream's alleged Star Wars game, if that's a combination we're interested in seeing, and whether it makes sense for Quantic Dream to explore settings like the original trilogy or apply its choice-based gameplay to an era like The High Republic. We also dive into the reports about discussions of a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 remaster, and Mitchell gives us some insight into why the project is so fervently demanded, and what we hope to see from an MvC 2 remaster. We also read a new Memory Card story, offer wild Super Smash Bros. Ultimate predictions for a PlayStation guest character, and much more!

Jonathon, Lucy, and Brian also offer their Deathloop impressions, taking a look at what we've enjoyed about our early hours of the gameplay so far, and how it sits alongside other Arkane games. Plus, we jump into the news around the new PS5 update, and what this PlayStation 5 firmware means for both the UI and PS5 SSD expansion. We dissect a bit of how this opens the door to new PS5 hard drives from third-parties, the changes to how PS5 trophies are displayed, and our hopes for what other updates we might see to the PS5 UI. We also briefly touch on some updated news on Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine, the new Marvel game from the Spider-Man developers, its mature tone, and what our early expectations are for it. Plus, we discuss some of the other PS5 games we've been playing, Matt shares a wonderful Memory Card story, and more.

The Matrix Resurrections trailer just dropped and it has a lot of Matrix fans asking questions about Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus? The events that took place in the MMORPG video game, The Matrix Online, might just explain what happened to Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus. If we consider The Matrix Online a canonical continuation of the films, this might explain why we no longer see Laurence Fishburne's version of Morpheus in the Matrix Resurrections trailer. The Matrix explained within The Matrix Online, Morpheus faces a certain fate that would make it unlikely for Laurence Fishburne Morpheus to return. In this video, we'll discuss the Matrix Online Morpheus scene in detail and how it could potentially lead to Laurence Fishburne not being in the Matrix 4. The Matrix video games, both the Matrix Online and Matrix Path of Neo, are part of the Matrix story and the Matrix extended universe. The #TheMatrixResurrections movie drops December 22nd. #TheMatrix In other news, there's a firmware update coming to an Xbox One controller near you that'll give you next-gen features. Microsoft announced in a blog post that they're testing a new firmware update for Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One controllers, Xbox Elite 2, and Xbox Adaptive controllers that'll give them all kinds of cool features that were previously only available on Xbox Series X and S controllers. And finally, LEGO revealed this cool foldout playset that's in the form of the iconic Question Mark block. When you open it, you get a gander at Peach's Castle, Bob-omb Battlefield, Cool Cool Mountain, and Lethal Lava Land. #IGN
