A great way to spread your wings, learn new skills, and gain leadership experience is to get involved with a professional organization. For grant and fundraising professionals, groups like the Grant Professionals Association (GPA), Association of Fundraising Professionals, and National Grant Management Association, are organizations that offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. During the 2024 GrantSummit we spoke with GPA leaders and volunteers. We're hearing from folks representing national boards (GPA, Grant Professionals Certification Institute, and Grant Professionals Foundation), the GPA Ethics Committee, GPA Publications Committee, GPA staff, and the inductees of the 2024 Grant Professionals Distinguished Fellows. Learn how you can join a committee or board today. Riding Shotgun With Charlie#143Toby LearyCape Gun WorksRapidFire Radio A long time ago, in a galaxy far away… I took the then Combat Focus Shooting course with Rob Pincus. Legit, it was 2013. Two of the other classmates were Toby Leary and Brendon Bricklin, the owners of Cape Gun Works (CGW). I eventually became a Utah instructor and asked them if they wanted to host a Utah course for their customers. I've been doing the Utah class at their shop in Hyannis, MA, since it was a small store attached to a few other stores. Toby and I finally set a time and date to film a show. Toby has been into firearms since he was a Boy Scout. He went shooting with the Boy Scout group but not for merit badges, just to go shooting. Little did he know that his passion for being outdoors and shooting would lead to CGW and a growing gig on the radio! The beginning of Cape Gun Works came when Toby & Brendon took a trip to Las Vegas for the Mr Olympia contest and to take a course at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. On the flight home, they cracked out the legal pad and started writing ideas on how to start and open a gun store and shooting range in Massachusetts. But the reality was that Toby was running a woodworking business and a gun business out of his woodworking shop. And often woodworking clients ran into firearm clients! They thought about buying an existing gun store, but that didn't happen and it worked out for the best that it didn't. Their lack of business owning experience didn't stop the dream, but they knew that the customers needed to come first. Over the years, CGW has become involved in the local chamber of commerce. The great thing about hosting chamber events is that it brings in people that wouldn't come into the store and lets them see that CGW, their employees, and their customers aren't what the non-gun folks imagined. A huge benefit that CGW offers is training. It's not just NRA courses that some sportsmen clubs offer. They offer USCCA and other types of defensive shooting courses, including classes from Ben DeWalt (RSWC #115) and Rob Pincus (#063). They also have a Ladies Night at the Range, Couples Night, and even archery courses. And there's gunsmithing, too, with Joseph Morse (RSWC #106). Last fall, they offered a Gun Maker's Match, hosted by Rob. One of the things Toby started doing to stay in touch with the community was calling in to the local radio stations after a firearms related incident. That has parlayed into regular segments on the station. Then they started doing daily shows due to the virus that shall not be named as a way to reach out to customers. They've also hosted one of Boston's biggest radio show hosts, Howie Carr, to do some book signings and remote broadcasts from CGW. That has given Toby the chance to work his way onto the airwaves all around Massachusetts and given him some regular airtime. When they decided to have his own segment, of course they called it RapdFire, which has become a weekly show he does at the shop. I'm very excited to be connected to Cape Gun Works & finally have Toby on the show! (I do teach the Utah class there) I'm very proud that Toby & Brendon have taken the local gun store, with all the courses they offer, to the next level. Should you find yourself on Cape Cod on a summer vacation, stop in and say “Hello!” Favorite quotes: “We sold the dream to the customers and they supported it.” “Customer service, taking care of the customer and putting them first was the secret sauce.” “Persistence won the day and we opened.” “One of the ways of putting the gun ownership issue out there in the community is to be involved in the community.” “You don't co-opt the term ‘against gun violence'. It's the last episode of CYT for 2021, and a first for the podcast: a conversation involving three people! I talk to Carla Bruni, the founder and organiser of Community Glue Workshops which are regular, free mending events taking place in Chicago, and Megan Grandstaff, who is one of the talented and dedicated volunteers, who specialises in fixing clothing and textile items. We get into the origin story of this almost-ten-year-old enterprise, and learn the keys to its massive success. How does the season affect how they prepare for the events? And why did CGW introduce a ‘launder first' rule?! If you're interested in setting up a mending workshop of some description, this is essential listening. The conversation also goes in other fascinating sustainability and mending related directions. Both Carla and Meg are incredibly intelligent and experienced people, so I know you're going to love this end of year conversation… Support the podcast over on Patreon! Riding Shotgun With Charlie #131 Gun Makers Match 11.20.2021 I got a text message from Rob Pincus (RSWC #063) about the Gun Makers Match at Cape Gun Works in Hyannis, MA, asking if I was going to be making the match. I had to work on the day of the gun making, but I made it to the shooting competition. Sort of. They started at 8 am and I didn't get to CGW until 11:15 am so I missed everything and everyone. Rob, Toby Leary, CGW owner, Matt Holmes, 2A3D Print, and Bobby Brown, AWCY?, were still hanging around. So we pulled 2 mounted bears that CGW has in the store and filmed what we called “Between Two BeARs”, a spoof of “Between Two Ferns”. The weekend consisted of one day of gun making and a morning of shooting competitions. This was the 3rd Gun Makers Match that Rob was leading. There's going to be a National Match in St. Augustine, FL, in March 2022. And Toby said Cape Gun Works will host an annual event, too. Day One was building several P80s that were brought by Matt & 2A3DPrint. Bobby came from Florida to talk about 3D printing of firearm frames. Jon Green (RSWC #030 & #034), Director of Education at Gun Owners Action League, talked about the legalities of making a firearm in Massachusetts. Once you have a completed home built firearm in Massachusetts, it has to be reported to the state via the eFA-10 registration portal. Yeah, this is ridiculous, but as I often say “Welcome to the Commonwealth”. The tools used, according to Toby, are things that most people have in their basement toolbox. Matt, Rob, & Bobby were able to help the class participants with everything that needed to be done to build the P80s. There were several folks doing their first builds and a few people that brought some previously made firearms. There were even a few people who brought some 3D printed frames from home. Day Two was the competition. Toby Leary came in first place, but they said it's because his GLOCK 34 has a longer barrel. Jon Green came in second. I believe that Joe Morse (RSWC #106) from Shooting Gallery New England came in third. Matt 3D printed some trophies of a 3D printer printing a frame. The winners each received a trophy. It looked and sounded like a great weekend! I'm bummed that I missed it. I will plan on making it next time, for sure! Filming a panel was a little different and certainly a different way for RSWC to happen, but I'm glad I got to get some video and learn about the 3D firearm printing world. Favorite quotes: Rob: “We're giving them a fun place to show them off. And give them a competition.” Rob: “If everyone says ‘ghost guns' are bad and scary and nefarious, it hurts our hobby. It hurts our ability to exercise our freedom and enjoy our freedom.” Matt: “People are intimidated for whatever reason...It's really easy to explain to people how they work, how to check function, how to check safeties.” Toby: “I got accused of cheating because I used a GLOCK 34 and they said the muzzle of the gun was touching the target.” Toby: “We literally brought tools that are in pretty much everyone's basement toolbox out here and built guns with them.” Bobby:”We want to make designs that never existed. We want to take existing designs and make them into something else.” Rob Pincus https://icetraining.us/ 2A3D Print https://2a3dprint.com/ Are We Cool Yet? This article can help you. It's titled SRI: which companies have both a positive sustainable impact and a strong dividend? It's by George Sweeney (DipFA). Note, the writer mentions ESG scores but doesn't indicate where they are from or their methodology. Here are some quotes from the article. This article was on fool.com. Here are some of the top businesses ticking both those boxes. 1) Coca-Cola HBC AG (CCH) Although Coke is questionable from a health perspective, the company has a massive environmental, social and governance (ESG) score of 92. Well, several articles have appeared on the success of this ETF. Quoting this article VEGAN ETF celebrates two years of outperformance by Beverley Chandler at ETFExpress.com, says “The world's first and only vegan ETF, the US Vegan Climate ETF (ticker: VEGN) has reached its two year anniversary since launch, with almost USD65million in assets since inception, and having returned 67.91 per cent vs S&P 500 Index's 57.07 per cent (on market price) since inception to end of August 2021.” End quote. ------------------------------------------------------------- Top Water, Environmental, and Renewable Energy Investments This next article is titled 3 Climate Change Stocks to Consider Buying Now. It's by Beth McKenna and appeared on fool.com. Here are some of Ms. McKenna's quotes on each of her Investments. “3 of the best climate change stocks: Overview Company Market Cap Dividend Yield Wall Street's Projected Annualized EPS Growth Over Next 5 Years 1-Year Stock Return 10-Year Stock Return American Water Works $32.3 billion 1.4% 8.6% 28.1% 645% Pool Corp. $18.6 billion 0.7% 17% 53.5% 1,800% Generac Holdings $27.5 billion N/A 8% 137% 3,450% S&P 500 N/A 1.31% N/A 34.1% 346% DATA SOURCES: YAHOO! FINANCE AND YCHARTS. DATA AS OF SEPT. 17, 2021. EPS = EARNINGS PER SHARE. 1) American Water Works (NYSE: AWK) American Water Works remains the best choice in the water utility space for most investors, in my opinion. It's the largest and most geographically diverse publicly traded water and wastewater utility in the United States. That makes it best positioned to capitalize on the consolidation trend in the industry. 2) Pool Corp. (NASDAQ: POOL) As the world's largest wholesaler of swimming pool supplies, Pool Corp. is best positioned to profit from rising demand for pools. The company has also shrewdly expanded into related outdoor living products, such as landscaping and irrigation products. Wall Street has been doing a poor job projecting Pool Corp.'s earnings growth… In the past four quarters, not only has Pool Corp. beat the consensus earnings estimate in every quarter, but it has crushed it by an average of 63%. 3) Generac (NYSE: GNRC) In the second quarter, Generac's shipments of home standby generators nearly doubled from the year-ago period, and the company is ideally positioned to continue to benefit from strong demand for backup generators because it's the largest player in this market. It's also a major player in the commercial and industrial standby generator space. Moreover, in recent years, the company has expanded into the clean energy market. It makes battery storage systems, which can be can store energy from solar panels or the electric grid, and related products. Wall Street analysts have been continuously underestimating Generac's earnings growth potential.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Honorable Mentions -- go to this podcast's webpage for links. 1) Title 5 Wind Energy Stocks to Get Ahead of the Renewable Energy Movement by Pete Johnson on investmentu. 2) Title 7 Best Energy Stocks to Buy to Cash in on the Alternative Energy Boom by Tezcan Gecgil on Investorplace. 3) Title These 3 Renewable Energy Stocks Should Benefit From a New Infrastructure Bill by Travis Hoium, Howard Smith, And Daniel Foelber. In a slight tweak of the MinnTrax format this week, we’ve enlisted Jeff Green (1up.com, CGW, Min/Max Consulting) to commemorate the passing of Kraftwerk co-founder Florian Schneider by taking a look at two of their most iconic albums: 1974’s Autobahn and 1981’s Computer World. We discuss what Kraftwerk’s breakout must’ve sounded like to an audience conditioned on slow jams, folk, and pop hits; the group’s surprisingly organic origins; how you even begin to track Kraftwerk’s influence on modern music; and what kept them from being just a novelty act. Then we turn to community questions to talk music movies, what’s the difference between repetitive and annoying music, and which artists our host and guest just can’t stand as people! To jump to a particular discussion, check out the timestamps below… 4:35 - Comparing Kraftwerk to 1974’s radio hits 6:40 - “Autobahn” 9:50 - The Beach Boys connection 17:30 - “Ruckzuck” 26:50 - “Kometenmelodie 2” 30:50 - “Morgenspaziergang” 33:20 - “Mitternacht” 38:15 - “Computer World” 44:00 - “Pocket Calculator” 48:00 - “Computer Love” 54:20 - “Home Computer” 56:30 - “It’s More Fun to Compute” 1:12:20 - Community questions 1:31:55 - Community song (“Last Ones on the Dance Floor” by 3d Blast feat Maggie.wav & Father Glamor, suggested by RAWPARTEE) Links Follow Jeff on Twitter and twitch at @Greenspeak and find Min/Max Consulting at https://min-max.net/ Support MinnMax on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/minnmax/ MinnTrax Episode Playlist: https://spoti.fi/2vgqfvK MinnTrax Community Playlist: https://spoti.fi/3aRRgox (edited)

The Chicago Great Western Railroad has been beautifully reproduced with an artistic feel some say is second to none. Jason has managed to faithfully capture the operation and geographical feel of the railroad. As a locomotive engineer he's a keen observer of realism and he's managed to develop the skills and technique needed to recreate an amazing representation of the CGW in miniature. As always, we'll mostly be using magazine cover dates for the 20 and 30 year jumps, while relying on newspaper articles and historical documents for the 40 year jump, as there weren't many dedicated gaming publications on the market yet. On this all-too-soon finale of 1UP's Retronauts, we forego the sappy goodbyes and instead concentrate on what we've done best in these past seven years: complain incessantly about Virtual Console. Join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Chris Kohler, and Ray Barnholt as they look back on the wonders and blunders this recent generation has brought to classic gaming, and mull over what the future will hold for retro games on shiny new consoles. Thanks for your support over the years!

We're back with a marginally new title, and slightly older hosts! Join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Sam Claiborn, and Ray Barnholt as they adhere to Retronauts tradition for this first show of the new year by discussing 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, and 1993. And if that's not enough for you, we talk about ALF a bunch for some reason. No problem!

It's been almost 20 years since a purple tentacle sipped sewage and nearly took over the world, and since then, we've been left with nothing but questions. Thankfully, Day of the Tentacle project leads Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman decided to drop by the Retronauts studio for an entire hour of discussion about the classic adventure game they helmed two decades ago. Note: hamsters were frozen, microwaved, but ultimately not harmed in the making of this episode.

Cowabunga! Radical! Et cetera! If you entered this world at some point in the '80s, you no doubt experienced the pizza-promoting phenomenon that taught children the names of four Renaissance artists. Join Retronauts host Bob Mackey, along with guests Kat Bailey, Ray Barnholt, and Marty Sliva as they thoroughly explore Konami?s many Ninja Turtles games, and perhaps learn the secret of the ooze?

With the release of Double Dragon Neon making the series relevant once again, Retronauts host Bob Mackey sits down with Scroll's Ray Barnholt and IGN's Sam Claiborn in an attempt to sort out the million ports of the few games starring Billy and Jimmy Lee. If you have a conveyor belt phobia, we advise you skip this one.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and the Retronauts feel fine. Well, maybe a little gassy. Join host Bob Mackey, along with guests Chris Kohler, Marty Sliva, and Jose Otero, as they depress a crowd of PAX Prime attendees with a discussion of video game portrayals of the post-apocalypse. Duck, cover, jam in your earbuds and laugh along with us for an hour as the world burns.
