This year alone, hundreds of new laws targeting trans people have been introduced by Republicans in the United States. Many of them make it harder for doctors to provide gender-affirming care for young people, or ban it completely. On this episode, Ryan Sallans, a transgender author and consultant focused on gender diversity based in Nebraska, and Dr. Hussein Abdul-Latif, an endocrinologist who works with trans kids in Alabama, discuss the impact of the new bills. This week, we pick up on our conversation with Ryan Sallans and Megan Smith-Sallans to talk about why more information doesn't always mean more understanding when it comes to our gender and sexuality. Should I say my pronouns when I'm meeting new people? How do I define myself to others? To myself? Does gender and sexuality ever get easier to understand? The answers are complicated, but Ryan and Megan offer perspective informed by a deep background of lived experience in Nebraska LGBTQ+ community. In this episode, transgender advocate and author Ryan Sallans discusses his experience accessing health care as a transman and offers a guide for caring well for anyone with a cervix.
What defines a man? Ever asked yourself, or been asked that question? The answers are as varied as there are men, yet when we step back, most of us guys have more in common in our definition than we have differences. Yet manhood becomes a whole different thing - at least in many peoples eyes - when a woman who was actually a man trapped in a woman's body, takes that brave step to be their authentic self - a man, or as most would say a transgender man. Ryan Sallans, an amazing transgender human, goes raw and real about how he sees manhood and he even explores how those shifts in his own perceptions of manhood as he's hit 40 have opened his eyes to who his is and continues to be as a man and human being. You're invited to open your eyes and step into the manhood journey that you define, not much unlike how Ryan has defined what manhood means to him! Ep. 030: Today’s episode we’re talking about becoming who you really are and we’re going to do that with a little insight into the transgender community. Some people may not think transgender issues necessarily affect them but the energy of a few affects the collective energy of the whole. If some of our people are oppressed or stigmatized, we feel that on an energetic level. We can all relate on some level to having assumptions about ourselves that don’t really feel like us, but what if this assumption was your entire outward expression of yourself? What if being who you really are was stigmatized by the general population, and even worse, the leader of your country? Our guest today is Ryan Sallans, a transgender speaker and author of the book Second Son. He became internationally known after the release of the documentary Gender Rebel, which followed him in the beginning steps of his transition from female to male in 2005. We talk about everything from misconceptions about trans people, to relationship struggles, and things you shouldn’t ask, no matter how curious you are. He opens up about his story about his struggle with an eating disorder and how he came to terms with his gender identity. Today we will learn: How to gain the courage to step out and be your authentic self How the struggles of the trans people are a mirror to the struggles of everyone How to be an ally for the transgender community Show Notes: https://mindlove.com/030 Sign Up for The Morning Mind Love for short daily reminders of how freaking powerful and magical you are, straight to your inbox! Just imagine feeling out of place in your own skin — that the actual physical container of your person just doesn’t mesh with what you know to be true. It would mean that every time you changed clothes, met new people, or went out in public, the world around you reminded you that while you may identify as one way, you definitely look another. Today, we're sitting down with Ryan Sallans - an author and speaker who shares about life as a trans-man. His story highlights that destructive coping with eating disorders, anxiety and depression is not a long-term solution, that cultivating awareness offers a practical way forward without minimizing emotions, and the uniqueness of eating disorders in the trans community as a way to look more masculine. I recently presented at the FTM Fitness Conference in Atlanta. It was three days of speakers, breakout sessions and events focused on the acknowledgement, discussion, education and celebration of transgender fitness in all forms: physical, emotional, mental and financial. This was the second year for the FTMFitcon, which will soon be going thru a rebranding of sorts…but we’ll get to that later. For most people that have heard of FTMFitCon, they know it as the ‘First FTM Bodybuilding Competition’, but that event is just one aspect of the conference. In addition to the historic bodybuilding competition, there was a fashion show, morning bootcamps, a wellness fair, more than 20 workshops and discussions and a closing ceremony and reception. Among the keynote speakers were Buck Angel, Ryan Sallans, Dr. Kortney Ziegler, and Tracee McDaniel (who has appeared on The Strong Stance a number of previous times).I attended the conference in a number of different capacities. Primarily, I was there as a session presenter, but I was also there as an attendee and as press. In tonight’s episode of The Strong Stance, we’re gonna do something a little different. I’ll talk a bit about my session presentation and my experiences as an attendee, but more importantly, I’ll talk to a number of attendees as well as FTM Fitness World founder and president, Neo Sandja. You won’t want to miss this, so stay tuned.

Carol the Coach interviews Ryan Sallans who transitioned from female to male in 2005. Ryan has made it his mission to help others understand why someone would need to undergo all the emotional, physical and spiritual changes to be authentic. He also talks about the shame and guilt he felt during his childhood, youth, and young adulthood until he was able to actualize his life. A small percentage of sex addicts have a desire to act out with transgendered prostitutes and I wanted to give "being transgendered" a face and a voice so that sex addicts would be able to look at their preferences in a different way.
