We live in a world that constantly tells us who we should be — yet leaves us anxious, exhausted, and unsure of who we are. But what if your worth doesn’t come from achievement, appearance, or approval? What if it comes from a Voice older than creation itself? Come discover a self-worth that isn’t achieved… it’s received.

Rev. Dr. Jacob Bolton preaches on Christmas Day. The Scripture passage is John 1:1-5.
The light has come! What a glorious reality. In the deepest hours of the night, the light comes. In the darkest weeks of the winter, the light comes. Goodness and richness flow with it. But John promises something more: the darkness has not overcome it. Today, let us think through what John means by this little phrase as we celebrate the birth of our Lord together!
Something very powerful happens when we embrace our God-given identity as the light of the world. In order to fully embrace this identity, it is essential that we build a very specific rhythm into our lives.

A standalone Christmas sermon about the Light of Creation and Christ.
December is a month of celebration of the birth of Jesus. For most of the world, Christmas is a time of gifts and sharing. We give to friends and family, and we give to charities, the church, and families in need. Gift-giving can come with decisions and anxiety about getting the perfect gift for someone. Will they like it, do they have one, will they return it the next day? Sometimes we receive gifts that disappoint us. However, the gift celebrated by the Christmas story is perfect and goes far beyond the feel-good emotions of the moment. To understand the writing of John, we must understand the perspective of when he wrote his books. Most historians agree that John’s writing came some seventy years after the crucifixion and resurrection. He was writing to a church composed chiefly of Greeks and Gentiles. Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s audience understood Jewish history and culture, but John had to connect with a church that had no concept of the Messiah and Jewish culture. He begins his writing with the idea that both Jew and Gentile could comprehend: The Word. That word that became flesh is the greatest gift that humanity could receive.

We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

John is the fourth of the "synoptic gospels," and since he was aware of those written by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, he adds different information. His thrust is that Jesus came into the world and by believing in His name we will have eternal life. He begins by saying Jesus has always been. He was there at creation. He was not created, He was. He was with God the Father but not God the Father, although He was identical. He was always and always was God.

Without the incarnation of God in Christ there would be no salvation for us.
Sunday AM Sermon
Many of us keep God away, because we are confused about what he is like and what he brings with him when he arrives in our lives. At Christmas time we celebrate that God has clarified who he is because he put on flesh, that we might understand God in a language we can understand, the language of our own humanity. With God clarified in the person of Jesus, perhaps now we can decide to let him into our own lives this Christmas season.
