Stop living life with your “spiritual GPS" on airplane mode Proverbs 3 said,“Acknowledge Him in all thy ways and He shall direct thy paths,” But half of us are behaving like spiritual crackheads, allowing emotional highs to direct our path and then wondering why we keep going in circles. We're praying for straight paths while taking emotional detours, walking in disobedience, pedaling on procrastination, as if we are afraid to enter into the presence of God aloneAnd God's like, “You want Me to make your way clear, But you won't even check the map I have provided or thumb through the Words I have spewed. When you and I sit down to read the Bible we are, in a sense, eavesdropping. We are learning by listening in to what are ancient conversations: that is, God speaking to ancient people living in very different times and cultures. While God was speaking to them, He was also speaking for our benefit. We should still agree with Paul's words to Timothy about the inspiration and profitability of Scripture. After all, God had the Bible compiled for us. We need to ask what God's message is for me in what I am reading. We still learn what we need to do to be part of His plans and we still learn how He wants us to live in our world and society – if we listen with care, thought and prayer.
Sermon on 1 Samuel 16:1-13 and Psalm 51:10-14. This is the second sermon in our six-week sermon series called God Speaks.Different people hear God in different ways. How does God speak to you? Throughout Israel's history, God has spoken in many ways--all ways God continues to speak today. As we listen for God's voice and prepare for the arrival of God's Son, let Israel's history prompt you to hear what God is speaking to you.In this sermon, we explore how God calls ordinary people by grace, seeing the heart rather than outward strength or status.

The divine can intersect with our human lives, God speaks – it's about listening and responding.
We live in a world that loves to hear from God—but not always to listen to Him. We want His comfort more than His correction, His blessing more than His direction. But when God speaks, it isn’t for our curiosity—it’s for our obedience. Every time God’s Word comes, it confronts a choice: Will I trust what I feel or obey what He says? Will I chase safety, or surrender to His will? Two stories—separated by centuries—reveal that difference. One ends in captivity. The other fuels the gospel. Because when God speaks, the outcome always depends on how we respond.
If God is God, does He speak? I mean, does He speak here and now to people like you and me? Now, that's an interesting question. Join Berni Dymet, as he takes a look at how a big God talks to so called little people - from a different perspective. Do you have weird dreams? Could they be from God? In the Bible, God sometimes talks to people through dreams. Why did he do that? Does he still do that today? Kaitlyn and Mike talk about prophetic dreams and what they tell us about our relationship to God and to our own minds. 12: 10: Sponsor - Check out the Gracebased Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts or learn more at https://gracebased.com/podcasts/ 13:10 - Sponsor - Get the right life insurance for YOU, for LESS, and save more than fifty percent at www.selectquote.com/kaitlyn
In this episode of "I Love to Tell the Story," hosts Rolf Jacobson, Kathryn Schifferdecker, and Craig Koester explore one of the most dramatic narratives in the Hebrew Bible: Elijah's journey to Mount Horeb and his encounter with God in the "sound of sheer silence" (or "still small voice"). After his dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, the prophet Elijah flees from Queen Jezebel's threats and travels from the northern territories all the way to Mount Horeb in the south—literally going "off the map." Exhausted and despairing, Elijah asks God to take his life, claiming he alone is left faithful to God. But God has other plans. In a powerful theophany (divine appearance), God shows Elijah that the divine presence is not in the mighty wind, earthquake, or fire—as it was for Moses—but in the sound of sheer silence. God redirects the self-righteous prophet back to his calling, reminding him that he's not alone and that his work isn't finished yet. The hosts discuss how this passage functions as a mirror for our own tendencies toward self-righteousness, the importance of reading it dramatically to capture its emotional depth, and how God's gracious persistence calls us out of ourselves and into service for others. Sermon on 1 Samuel 3:1-21. This is the first sermon in our six-week sermon series called God Speaks.Different people hear God in different ways. How does God speak to you? Throughout Israel's history, God has spoken in many ways--all ways God continues to speak today. As we listen for God's voice and prepare for the arrival of God's Son, let Israel's history prompt you to hear what God is speaking to you.In this sermon, we explore how when we listen for God, God's Word convicts us of sin yet speaks an even louder word of grace.
Faith grows strongest in those who refuse to give up, trusting God even when the answer seems distant. When we keep believing through silence and struggle, we find that God's love reaches beyond every boundary and draws us into His family through grace. Message based on Matthew 15:21-28; Ephesians 2:12-18Quotes:Robert Murray McCheyne: Learn that urgency in prayer does not so much consist in vehement pleading, as in vehement believing. He that believes most the love and power of Jesus will obtain the most in prayer.Charles Spurgeon: Brethren, be great believers. Little faith will bring your souls to heaven, but great faith will bring heaven to your souls.J.I. Packer: Adoption is the highest privilege of the gospel. The traitor is forgiven, brought in for supper and given the family name. It is greater than justification. To be right with God the Judge is a great thing, but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is even greater. To discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

In this "how-to" and "identity" episode Dr. Patty will share about the ways God speaks to you personally and the body of Christ in this time and culture. She will show you how God spoke in Bible times using the references of everyday life. Why does God communicate to you? A word-by-word breakdown of John 3:30 gives you the answer. Dr. Patty shares a conversation with Jesus where He took the verses in John 15 of the vine and the branches and explained them in the modern cultural context of electricity. She explains how God communicates with words and pictures that connect with your interests, aptitudes, and even your everyday vocabulary. Even the nickname He calls you is significant. Jesus shows you ways He is communicating with you that you may not even realize and shows you how you can increase your sensitivity to His messages to you in your Experience Jesus encounter. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Joseph Golden from Pontotoc, MS. Thank you for your partnership with us through Project23. Your commitment is helping deliver God's Word with clarity and conviction. This one's for you. Our text today is Judges 7:9-11. That same night the LORD said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hand. But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant. And you shall hear what they say, and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outposts of the armed men who were in the camp. — Judges 7:9-11 It's the night before the battle. Gideon's 300 face an enemy described in verse 12 as “like locusts in mass.” The tension is thick. Fear is natural. And God knows it. So He meets Gideon where he is — not with a lecture, but with reassurance: “I have given it into your hand.” Notice the tense. It's already done in God's mind. The victory is certain. But God also gives Gideon a “fear option.” If he's afraid, he can take Purah and go listen to what's happening in the enemy camp. This is grace in action. God doesn't shame Gideon for being afraid; He gives him a path to courage. He knows the gap between what Gideon believes and what Gideon feels — and He steps into it. God isn't surprised by your fear. He knows it. He expects it. He plans for it. We often think fear disqualifies us from God's mission. But here, God acknowledges it and provides the very thing to strengthen Gideon's hands. That's how God works — He meets you in the gap between what you believe about him and how you live it out. In your everyday life, that gap might be the moment before a hard conversation, a big career risk, a step of faith in generosity, or sharing your testimony. You believe God is faithful, but fear whispers, “What if you fail?” God steps into that space with promises and proof. Sometimes it's a Scripture that lands in your heart at the right moment. Sometimes it's the timely encouragement of a friend. Sometimes it's a clear sign of his hand already at work. Faith isn't the absence of fear — it's moving forward in faith, trusting the One who speaks into your fear. So confess those fears. Then ask God to speak into those fears as you take that step of faith. ASK THIS: Where has fear been holding you back from obeying God? How has God already given you assurance in that area? Who has been your “Purah” — someone who walks with you toward courage? What step could you take today to move forward in faith despite fear? DO THIS: Identify one place where fear has stalled your obedience. Ask God to speak into it today, and take one small, concrete step forward. PRAY THIS: Lord, thank You for meeting me in my fear. Speak courage into my heart today so I can step forward in faith, trusting You with the outcome. Amen. PLAY THIS: "You've Already Won."
In this episode, we explore the gift of tears and the importance of allowing ourselves to cry. We reflect on our experiences with crying and talk about how tears, especially in painful moments, can be a powerful expression of surrender, lament, and hope when offered to God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, our sensitivity and capacity to cry reflect the way we were beautifully created to respond to what breaks God's heart. We discuss the vulnerability of crying, the pain of resisting it, and how Jesus crying out on the cross reveals the value of our own cries. Whether you're too tired to cry, afraid to show need, or already feel safe expressing emotion, we invite you to see crying as an act of worship and intercession. In our sorrow, God meets us with love, truth, and the hope that He can actually do something with our pain. The Gospel confers an immense value to our cry, reminding us that it can be an invocation, a protest, a desire, a surrender. It can even be the extreme form of prayer, when there are no words left. In that cry, Jesus gave all that he had left: all his love, all his hope.” (General Audience, September 10, 2025, Pope Leo XIV) Scripture for Lectio: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1) Sponsor - Beata Home: This episode is sponsored by Beata Home, a boutique-style print shop founded by Katie, a wife and mom of four. The post Job 40, 41 & 42 – God Speaks (Part 2) – The Glory and Comfort of the Lord appeared first on Woodland Hills Church of Christ.
Series: RootedWeek 3 Title: God Speaks, Are You Listening?Scripture: Hebrews 1:1–3; John 1:1,14,18; John 16:12–15; Acts 13:2; Proverbs 11:14; Hebrews 10:24–25Big Idea: God is not silent. He has spoken most clearly through Jesus Christ, and He continues to speak through His Spirit and His people.I. God Speaks Through His SonIn the past, God spoke through prophets and visions (Hebrews 1:1).Now, He has spoken most clearly through Jesus (Hebrews 1:2–3).Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14).All Scripture points to Him (John 5:39–40).To see and hear Jesus is to see and hear the very Word of God.II. God Speaks Through His SpiritThe Spirit convicts, reveals truth, glorifies Jesus, and guides believers (John 16:8,13–14).The Spirit actively leads God's people (Acts 8, Acts 10, Acts 13, Acts 16).The Spirit convicts while the enemy accuses. The Spirit reveals truth while the enemy confuses. The Spirit glorifies Jesus while the enemy glorifies self.III. God Speaks Through His PeopleWise counsel (Proverbs 11:14; 15:22).Encouragement and healing (Proverbs 12:25; 16:24).Influence (1 Corinthians 15:33).The early church devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, prayer, and encouragement (Acts 2:42; Hebrews 10:24–25).Following Jesus is not a solo pursuit; we need each other to hear God's voice.IV. Application / ChallengeDon't overcomplicate the divine—God is speaking clearly.Ask: Are you in His Word? Are you listening to His Spirit? Are you walking with His people?God speaks. The question is: are you listening?
Questions about why, if it's impossible to miss God's voice, the disciples incorrectly told Paul “through the Spirit” not to go to Jerusalem, people mistook God's voice for thunder, the Bible says God speaks in riddles, Daniel had to ask for an interpretation, and more. If it's impossible to miss God's voice, why did the disciples incorrectly tell Paul “through the Spirit” not to go to Jerusalem in Acts 21:4–14? Why did people mistake God's audible voice for thunder in John 12:28–30? Numbers 12:6–8 says that God speaks to prophets in dreams, visions, and riddles, so clarity is the exception here. Even Daniel and Zechariah had to ask for interpretations (Dan. 7:15–16; Zech. 4:2–4), and James 4:2 says we do not have because we do not ask. Scripture shows examples like Samuel, Revelation 3:20, and Jesus' “ears to hear” sayings where God speaks clearly yet not all recognize it, suggesting that our attentiveness is needed. How do passages like these fit in with your view on how God speaks to believers today?
