I’ve been privileged to work with Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach and Powerful Learning Practice supporting and coaching educators in Guam over the past several months. One of the great educators I’ve met and worked with is Solange Prudente, a teacher-librarian at Astumbo Elementary School. Solange shares about her work in that role as well as the way in which Guam is dealing with the crisis. You can listen or watch here but if you’re a podcast listener you can also subscribe via Apple Podcasts or Spotify. If you’re interested in more of these conversations, my co-author, Dr. Scott McLeod, has started a similar podcast, The COVID Chronicles which is focused a little more on leadership. Education leaders are increasingly finding that technology is a double edged sword. On one hand, it offers the promise of unlimited ways to transform our lives and our mission to educate children. On the other hand, technology can be overwhelming, frustrating and even addictive. In this segment we ask three experts on the subject of technology in education to help us find the balance. Dr. Larry Rosen is a research psychologist, recognized as an international expert in the Psychology of Technology. Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, Co-founder and CEO, Powerful Learning Practice, LLC and author: The Connected Educator - Learning and leading in a digital age. Jason Flom is the Director of Learning Platforms at Q.E.D. Foundation where he works to cultivate, inspire and build learning communities dedicated to transformational learning practices.

Today I got a quick Skype call from Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach who was talking to teachers in Buffalo about the sorts of things you can do with Web 2.0 technologies and I thought I would share the call with you as I haven't made a podcast in a while. Here is a link to the wiki we were talking about. Comparing Hemispheres Wiki

On Tuesday 17th July at 8.30 pm UK time began a web 2.0 Speed Dating style experience for a group oh High School teachers in New York, on a 3 day course with Sheryl Nussbaum Beach discussing the use of New Technologies in Education. Sheryl had in advance gathered together a group of Web 2.0 educationalists from around the world ( and Wales!!!!) - in the firing line were: Jen Wagner - http://www.technospud.com/blog/ Lisa Durff - http://durffsblog.blogspot.com/ Welsey Fryer - http://www.speedofcreativity.org/ John Pederson - http://pedersondesigns.com/ Allanah King - http://allanahk.edublogs.org/ Jane Nicholls - http://ictucan.blogspot.com/ Jason Hando - http://mylearningspace.ning.com/profile/jhando and myself http://ddraig-goch.blogspot.com/ The idea was that for their first day the teachers had been investigating the new tools and then got to speak to teachers already using them in classes, with kids. ( how I wish this had existed when I started!!). Each of us was on a computer around the room on a 1 to 1 Gizmo call, so that we could have a discussion with the people at the table ( sadly some had to IM due to problems in New York)... it was an excellent experience I certainly enjoyed it ( so apologies for my talking far too much and not letting others geta word in !!!!!). Thanks hugely to the excellent and 'awesome' Sheryl for all of her work in getting this together. http://www.21stcenturycollaborative.com/ I look forward to more of these experiences and maybe just maybe a real Life f2f sometime soon with blogging/ podcasting buddies.... a meet up at NECC next year would be fabulous if we could arrange it guys and girls!!??

In the last week of our school holidays Jason Hando from Macarthur Anglican School in north Sydney put out a call for educators from around the globe to discuss their experiences with Web2.0 tools. The call was taken up by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, Jen Wagner and my good self. I was aware I was boxing above my weight but am always up for new learning with others around the globe. These opportunities always present opportunities for me to learn as well as share. Jason made a wiki to co-ordinate the venture. The concept was a fun one- that of speed dating!!! The idea was that participants would have 15 minutes to speak with each of the experts via Skype and then move on. Sheryl, Jen and Jen's cat, Mac were on one computer and I had to hold the fort on the other.Scary stuff. I can really recommend you listen to Sheryl and Jen's podcast which is much more eloquent that mine! 10MB 18 minutes

This is a short podcast of the skype call I took from Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach. Sheryl was presenting at the AET Conference 2007 in Birmingham, Alabama on the use of Web 2.0 tools. She had originally asked Jane Nicholls (ICTUCAN) to skype in with her today. However Jane had a bit of car trouble down in New Zealand - hence I helped out by chatting to the workshop group in Alabama from here in Wales... I still find this stuff to be like magic or alchemy, and quite amazing. http://www.aetc.cc/ Conference Intro Page http://abpc.wikispaces.com/AECT07+Workshop Sheryl's Conference Wiki http://21stcenturylearning.typepad.com/blog/
